We visited this place after dinner, a quick walk from our hotel. I thought the Halong Night Market was a rather lackluster attraction. Most of the vendors on the ground floor area were selling exactly the same items, with perhaps some different color variations. That got old pretty quickly. We gave this area a quick once-over and decided that it wasn't worth exploring any further.

This is a place where you can buy souvenirs and other items. It remains open from 6:00 PM to midnight. The items available here are mostly "Not of better standard". It is recommended that you buy only souvenirs from here and remember to "Bargain" and "Bargain alot". The prices which they initially ask are normally more than double from the prices on which they finally agree to sell.

A small market focussed on tourists. Nothing special there but a good place if you want to buy a last minute souvenir or fake sportswear

Yeah. They pretty much all have the same stuff. Yeah, it's in a non-descript concrete shell with a corrugated roof. But the people selling and their kids are wonderful people. The haggling was a playful friendly joust with much head shaking, down cast eyes and sly smiles. Their kids are running around playing ball and tag and just having a good old time running around the tourists like an obstacle course. The boredom of the wait and the anticipation of the tourist trade is their life. Be generous. Spend a few bucks and help out their standard of living.

I loved this market. Yes, all the stalls had all the usual touristy stuff on them but the atmosphere was so fun, people everywhere, both tourists and locals. The food stalls were amazing- delicious local food, much more varied than just pho. (Not that I have anything against the tasty pho!)

This place is located within the Marine Plaza. It's not a must visit, but if you are within the area or have nothing else to do, it's worth a stop-by. We spent about half an hour inside. Best if visited at night when most of the stalls are open. They sell about the same things, which can get boring after awhile. Your haggling skill is being tested in this place. You have to be firm with your price. Most of the time, we paid about half of their opening prices. It's a good place to get some souvenirs. This place would have been better if the Marine Plaza is fully developed. Otherwise, it's pretty empty. Finding a cab from this area is easy. WiFi is limited.

For me, markets usually mean haggling in the heat & I dislike both. But at Ha Long Night Market I had tremendous fun. Now you must expect to be manhandled somewhat on arrival, but smile and stay resolute. I asked the price of one scarf, bargained it a little and then when I said I'll take ten (for the office ladies), things really started happening. Two sisters work nearby stalls and they scurried around to gather sufficient stock. Of course I was half a million dong short & felt terrible. But I paid for half & they kept half in a bag under the table until the following night. They following night I also purchased a "Manbag" and the stall owner gave me a lift to my hotel 1.5kms away in his newish car. Two visits & a great experience each time.
I dined in the restaurant opposite the Market entrance & ate well.

We had great expectations from this place as we were told by the trip organizer that we will be able to do lot of shopping but he did not tell that this place had no card swipe machine or accepted any currency other than home currency or US Dollars.
2. The items on sale were generally souvenirs, cheap clothes etc. and the worst was that prices were quoted in millions of Vietnamese Dongs, which is due to their exchange rate with US Dollar, which somehow put us off as we were not sure about the number of zeroes!!!
3. There are no major sight seeing places, restaurants etc near this market and finally after about 15 minutes, we planned for a short trip around the Halong City with local taxi, which was pretty cheap.

Went here with a local guide (recommended) and saw all the fresh seafood catch and produce. Similar to markets I’ve been to in Asia and South America. Cheap food stalls, clothing, and trinkets. Neat place to kill some time and take in the culture.

It is what it is, a night market in Ho Long. A quick 4 minute $4Aus taxi ride from Vin Pearl, the market itself isn't very big but it is well set out with good wide walkways. Most of the stalls are pretty much same same, but the stall holders were polite and keen to barter. OK to kill some time if nothing else to do.

To Mr. D. Crichton 981, Your review of the Halong night market was most helpful and informative. Though I may not be new to tourist night markets in Asia, I will be a first timer to Vietnam should my plans go through. May I ask if you took a Halong Bay cruise? If you did what did you do, and where did you go, AFTER the cruise.
I thought my party of 4 pax would spend some time on dry land in Halong. Is this "doable", and reasonable, in terms of places to go, visit, tour? Your reply would be most appreciated. thanks very much. Elisa from Manila
