Took a day trip from Hanoi, Old Quarter via halongbaytours.com.vn*. Definitely wasn't rushed and completely practical - we left at 8:15am; arrive at Halong Bay at 12pm; took the cruise right in and around the bay; had lunch on the boat (take water with you); went kayaking and visited the caves and left around 5pm which was fine for us. Of course, stay overnight on or near the bay if you can, for more time, especially as Hanoi isn't that exciting anyway. We were very lucky as it was the rainy month and it rained right before the cruise, but perfectly clear for our cruise and kayak.

*Note: definitely recommend them! They were professional in all their correspondence, timely and reliable. Picked us up on time from our hotel and dropped us off, all inclusive at $46USD pp. They will strategically take you to shops 'to use the clean toilets' but no pressure really to buy; and better use the toilets on route than at the wharf or...

Photographers dream come true. Beauty around every corner. If you want piece and quite take a 6 cabin boat with a maximum of 12 people for an overnight adventure. If you want more party action go on a 12 cabin or 24 cabin boat. 5 crew looked after 10 guests and it was 5 star all the way. Well done Vietnam.

In this full day trip enjoy famous scenery & destinations of Halong bay. Observe life of residents in floating village, cruise past limestone cliffs on a traditional wooden boat, then cave Thien Cung, explore chambers adorned with stalagites of all kinds in this mysterious cave. Stop at Cat be Island see the monkeys, swim in the beautiful beach, row boat back for a well prepared lunch on a junk boat, The list goes on. The local guide is full of knowledge and really enlightened me of their way of life.

This place is a must see! Halong tours took us here for our overnight cruise on the "V'Spirit" vessel. It was truly magnificent. So relaxing on the top deck cruising between the limestone islands. We were well looked after. Night time was spectacular as all the other cruise vessels moored nearby with their lights on. What a wonderful sight to see. Seas were calm, had some rain next morning but it cleared quickly. Cabins were comfortable & food aplenty. Plenty of activities as well from swimming to kayaking. If you are in Hanoi, you must make the 3hr drive to Halong Bay and see it. It's Awesome!

We booked a day trip from Hanoi to Halong Bay with www.halong-bay-tours.com. We had a great day. Well worth the long drive. There were only 9 in our group, allowing lots of time for us to ask questions if we wished. Our guide, Hai, was fantastic. Very friendly and knowledgeable. The seafood lunch was delicious and lots of it. I would definitely recommend anyone staying in the North to visit Halong Bay.

We booked our Ha Long Bay trip via them after a lot of research. Their boat is beautiful and the cruise was very pleasant. The rooms are quite nice and the bathrooms are super clean. The scenery you will get to see on this cruise is breath-taking. Our guide, I don’t remember his name, was very friendly and the trip to the caves was something that I will never forget. This trip was the highlight of my Vietnam vacation and I would love to go again!

Before going to Vietnam, I was in two minds to chose between a day tour and one night on the junk boat and due to my limited time in Hanoi I opted for the day tour. After arriving in Hanoi, I walked in to one of the local tour agency I found near to my hotel called Sinh travels on Loung Van Can street and they agreed for a USD 16 for a day trip which included pick up and drop at the hotel. They had arranged it through one Joy travels. The person from Joy Travels came to my hotel and picked me up along with another 10 -12 people from other nearby hotel and soon we hit the highway. The ride to Halong Bay was comfortable. We reached there close to noon and after some waiting at the ticket booth we were soon put on a boat. Once on the cruise we were served with lunch, nothing great yet it was good. It was a typical vietnamese food, served with rice, fish, spinach, seafood soup and some freshly fried ground nuts ( I wonder if that is typical vietnamese style?) We were taken to one impressive island called Canh Hoc.It was very impressive and the guide was quite knowledgeble and helpful in answering our questions. After this we were taken to a floating platform from where we had the option to try out some kayaking or short boat rides. We were taken back to the pier through a different route and on the way back we saw the famous kissing rocks. I was quite satisfied with this tour. May be if had more time in Hanoi I would have tried staying one night on a boat in Halong Bay but I really wonder if it had given me anything substantial to cherish.

One of the most beautiful world's natural wonders. It is a bay with more than 3000 island and islets sculptured into amazing shapes. Our private boat cruised between the islands allowing us to admire the scene while having seafood lunch. The seafood was fresh and good, the view was awesome!
