The experience we had in Halong Bay was incredibly fun and beautiful thanks to our enthusiastic tour guide Sunny Chương. He made the tour amazing thanks to his immense passion for the location and the culture. He is very knowledgeable and charismatic. The tour overall was beautiful and the quality of the food, amenities, and services was very high; great staff on the cruise! We are very glad we did this and it was the best thing we did in Vietnam! Can on Sunny Chương and driver!

Went for a day trip and it was amazing . Easy 3.5 hour ride from Hanoi including our 30 minute stop. The big bus made it comfortable . Spent 4 hours on the water, including our bamboo boat ride into the caves. The views on the water are astounding. Most boats on the water for the day rides looked the same . I think the difference in what you pay is mostly the lunch on board , and the bus ride. Check to see if the cave trip is included otherwise you will pay about $7.00Us extra.

I would have to say http://www.halongbayoneday.com/ is a website that you should avoid if you intend to have a happy holiday in Vietnam. The company behind this web played lots of trick to cheat tourists. Here was our experience with One Day tour Ha Long bay on Dec 17, 2014 (4 pax). We booked their one day tour Halong Bay with kayaking package of two-way transfer from/to Hanoi hotel. According to the web, you would expect an air-conditioned van with 'onedayhalongbay.com' logo to pick you up. However, what they sent was a lousy van with poor condition of seating and ventilation. Air con didn't work. It took so long for this van to pick up 12 persons and when it departed from Hanoi it was almost 9am.

The van reached Halong Bay boat quay at 12:30pm. Then, the story began. Everyone from this van assembled with 20 more persons arrived earlier in different vans. They booked the 1day or 2 day halong bay tour from the same web. The tour guide then started his assembly work and tried to sort people into different groups. For unknown reason, all people (around 40 persons) were waiting there for 1 hour and only saw this tour guide running here and there, seemed negotiating with boat owner, and played his show to suddenly desperately squatting on the ground. We asked him what was going on, then he suddenly ran away back to boat. This show lasted for 1 hour until finally he managed to get people on board. Most other boats already departed at around 12:30pm. He didn't explain anything to us. And he didn't say a single sorry to everyone.
People exchanged the price of this tour. Surprisingly, the price was so chaotic from US$19 to US$39.

After around 36 people boarded the boat, the boat still didn't depart. We waited at quay until 2pm. Time was wasted just for nothing. No explanation from the tour guide. I believed there was mistake made by this tour guide. Or, otherwise he was playing trick with the boat owner for some reasons unknown to tour people. When the 'seafood lunch' was finally served, all the dishes were cold and rice was so hard to chew. Even with such food, there was still one table of 4 of one family didn't get their lunch at all!!! Everyone just tolerated the poor service and continued the tour trip. The boat only reached Fighting Cock Rock then started return journey. When we asked the guide about paid kayaking, he said there was no kayaking allowed now. If their office sold the kayaking packages to us, it was their fault. We felt so cheated. To us, it seemed to be a trick played by the tour guide and their office (we do not know their company name, not exposed on the web site).

The boat sailed back to boat quay at 4:20pm. Overall, there was only 2.5 hours spent on the halong bay tour.

The van sent people back to Hanoi at 5pm. After reaching Hanoi, the tour guide played trick again saying the van was not going to send everyone back to hotel, although these were included in the package. His attitude turned to violent and just wanted to throw us away from the van desperately. He finally played a trick and managed to throw us away far from the hotel, fled away with the van. We were so angry and so hurt by this trip. It left us with such bad memory.

You should avoid this web http://www.halongbayoneday.com as they didn't do their business honestly. A happy holiday should not be ruined by such bad apple.

Let me preface this review by saying that me and my partner are both very happy we went to halong bay. The 8 hours in a small van are a big effort but halong bay is very beautiful and unique and worth the effort. Now for the negatives.... The tour company forgot about us and had to return to pick us up an hour late for which they were unapologetic, the whole trip felt very unorganised, inexplicably we swapped tour 'guides' multiple times, the food was terrible and they charged you to drink your own water on the boat, however without a doubt the worst bit was the trip home with a driver very determined to overtake on every blind corner imaginable whilst texting. I'm not sure who or what was possessing him but we had no reassurance when he had a beer at the toilet stop. Would not recommend this tour company.

Halong bay is a must visit place while traveling to Vietnam.

TOUR PACKAGE
We took one full day cruise package from Hanoi for 49usd per person. This included hotel pickup and dropoff and a guide. You can find even more cheaper in different travel agencies in Hanoi.

Note: Better to book package from travel agency than online. It will cheaper.

Our tour started at 7.30am,along with a group in a/c travel bus (free Wi-Fi).Mid way stopped at a place where souvenir shops, restaurant and washroom are available. Reached halong bay at 12.noon

We were taken to the cruise along with our guide. Then we had the lunch, super variety of seafoods.
Note: drinks are available in cruise but do remember you will have to pay extra for each drinks..

As the cruise started moving you can see a lot of limestone pillars and tiny islets topped with forest..MUST SEE
Its like you entered a different world...

ACTIVITIES
We were taken to a cave ,inside there is a lot of hidden history..
Then we went to the island were kayaking and bamboo boating is done..we opt for kayaking. This was really amazing we done kayaking through cave..Must try it at once....
Then went to the Titop island and climbed up and the view of halong bay was breathtaking....
We returned back from halong bay at 6pm and reached hotel before 10pm.

GUIDE
Our guide Mr Quy is a nice person. He is really helpful, informative and very energetic. He took care of our group really well. And at last he sang a Vietnamese song for us. Thank you Quy for making our trip such wonderful..

Our tour was extremely exciting...really enjoyed the trip..
Highly recommended.....

The bay was beautiful but I wasn't impressed with this tour company. We spent a total of about 9 hours on a bus and only enjoyed the bay for about 2 hours. The van ride was very rough (lots of slamming on the brakes and jerking that actually caused me to get sick), and when we finally got there I felt rushed on our tour through the cave (40 min) and our kayaking (30 min). Would have liked to have spent more time on each of these activities, especially because they were the only activities outside of the bus ride. Lunch on the boat was very sub par (drinks, even nonalcoholic, were not included), you had to stay inside the boat for most of the ride so you couldn't thoroughly enjoy the views, and the included sunset party didn't happen at all. Granted it was cloudy and we didn't have a sunset I was still curious what it was and was looking forward to enjoying some drinks and mingling with others from our tour group. There were 2 stops, 1 on the way there and 1 on the way back. While I did appreciate the clean bathrooms I did not appreciate the extremely overpriced food and snacks at each stop. $7-9 for a bag of chips is just a tad bit ridiculous, don't you think??? Touring Halong Bay itself is a must if you are visiting Hanoi but I highly suggest a different tour company or staying in Halong Bay a night to break it up. Hope this info helps my fellow travelers.

We didnt have anything planned one afternoon, I called in the morning and we were on the boat by lunchtime. We were travelling with another couple so decided to go the private tour and had the whole boat to ourselves, truly amazing and for the price, recommended. The lunch was great, guide was funny, friendly and informative and the crew were really nice.
I thought Halong Bay was a little overrated, maybe I was expecting too much, but the 4 hour cruise was just perfect to get out there and see it for ourselves.

I usually don't write reviews but after my unpleasant experience I felt it was needed.
So we get picked up at our hotel, all was well. The bus is alright, although cramped for someone over 6 foot tall. But you just have to deal with it. The ride was long and bumpy, the pitstop they make is at an overpriced restaurant/supermarket. Although the art by the disabled is quite nice. About 4 hours later we arrived at Halong Bay. We got on this old boat and sat down. We were served probably the most bland lunch of all time that was not filling at all. The complimentary drink they advertise is actually the bottle of water that they give you on the bus.

The caves and whatnot are nice despite being over run by tourist groups.

The worst part of the whole trip was that everytime you sat down, the lady who I assume cooks the food, pesters you constantly to purchase her souvenirs. After repeatedly telling her no, she demanded we purchase some because she has no money and apparently because I am a westerner I do. I firmly told her that I don't want any of her souvenirs and that if I did I would gladly purchase them at other destinations.

We finally got off the boat and continued our journey back to Hanoi. This was a long day of 8 hours driving and about 3 hours actually on a tour. Would recommend staying overnight in the bay.

Btw, the host of the tour, Ngoc was lovely and told us all about halong bay and all the legends surrounding it.

Prodded on by Trip Advisor's most beautiful places to visit, the Halong Bay One Day Tour was one of the best boat tours ever. Leaving Hanoi city at 9am and overcoming the 3-1/2 hour drive to Halong Bay, we were met at the harbor by the boat captain and crew, chartered by this group of 7. After about 30 minutes into the cruise, a full-course lunch was served. Cruising around for another 50-60 minutes we arrived at the caves which were magnificient in itself. Finished with the cave tour, we cruised for another 25 minutes before arriving at the harbor to catch our ride back into the city. A great experience and highly recommended although I highly wish they would do something about transportation getting to and back to Hanoi which takes up a full 7 hours with light traffic.
