About
Bai Tu Long Bay is the name of an area located in the east of Halong Bay Vietnam. Although it shares many similar geological characters with Halong Bay, Bai Tu Long Bay is considered as off the beaten tourist track with many deserted and pristine beaches, no less impressive karst mountains. The Bay has a rich biodiversity with two ecosystems: a tropical, moist, evergreen rainforest ecosystem; and a marine and coastal ecosystem. The area has scarcely seen any tourist development. A large number of guests, through online research, wish to visit the Bai Tu Long Bay because it is much less crowded than Halong Bay. The only disadvantage is that it does not have many grottos. The nearest place for a visit (Vung Vieng Fishing village) is at around 20 km from tourist port.

We loved our cruise very much and will recommend you to do 2 night itinerary. It took us much time travelling from/to Hanoi for the tour. - arpitamGurugram (Gurgaon), India1,063 contributionsOne of the best cruising experiences: Off the beaten trackA serene experience of cruising through the Bai Tu Long bay. This route was chosen to avoid the general crowding that happens in the Lan Ha bay route. The weather was not sunny so we all could sit comfortably in the sun deck and enjoy the smooth sail through the limestone mounds. We started off with the safety briefing by the tour manager. By then the crew set up table for the 7 course lunch all served on the table. The menu was elaborate and the food was delicious. After some relaxing time, we set off for a visit to the Vung Vieng floating fishing village. It takes around 30-40 mins to visit the fishing village. So if you are used to kayaking (2 person/kayak) you can opt for it else it is better to go with the bamboo boat (upto 6 ppl) ride. The journey is pleasant. We finished off with the pearl harvesting and demonstration. The sunset party could not happen due to the absence of sun. However, people went happy with the "happy hours". This was followed by cooking class by Mr. Peter "Vietnamese fried spring roll made by many countries". The day ended with a luxurious 7 course meal at dinner. Some of us were fishing enthusiasts who tried their hands on squid fishing at night. The 2nd day started at 6 am with a TaiChi session at the sun deck. Such a wonderful way to start your day, unless of course you want to sleep late and miss the morning fresh air and be surrounded by lofty hills. After a quick breakfast with traditional Vietnamese pho we set off for a short hiking to the Thien Canh Son cave. We need to hike about 90 high steps along steep mountain path to reach. The path is stone paved and very well maintained. The cave has a very narrow entrance and tall people have to mind their head and legs. While climbing down, which I found rather difficult than climbing up, we diverted to a hidden and beautiful beach. Finally we returned to the cruise as it was time for checkout. Meanwhile the crew served us a wonderful lunch before we disembarked at the international cruise port at Halong. This will be a memorable event for all of us. We would certainly recommend this to all fellow travellers.Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 6, 2024

Words are insufficient to cover this part of the world!!! A stunning beauty!!!
We did the Bais Bai To Long circuit, further north and less crowded with tourist boats.
The cruise prepared by Horizon Vietnam Travel met and even exceeded all the expectations that our group of 3 people had.
Renea's very comfortable boat, with just over 20 people on board was relaxing. Kayaking, swimming on a secluded beach, delicious meals, all very well done

We spent 2-day-1-night cruise on Renea cruise with Bai Tu Long Bay route. The route was less touristy than Halong or Lan Ha Bay route which we had visited. Actvities & food onboard were also good. We enjoyed every place we stopped by. We definitely recommend Renea Cruise with its Bai Tu Long Bay route for anyone who would like to visit Halong Bay

Finally found the peaceful alternative to Halong Bay! We spent two magical days cruising through pristine waters and hidden coves. The limestone formations were breathtaking, especially at sunrise. Fewer tourist boats meant we could truly enjoy the tranquility. Our kayaking experience through the quiet bay was incredibly romantic and intimate.

Dragon Pearl 2 hosted our family for 3 days (2 nights) in Bai Tu Long Bay over the holidays this year and it was an absolute highlight. No cell service made the family fully engage with each other. Beautiful time on the decks, kayaking, cooking lessons and enjoying the scenery in general. The staff was amazing. Chicken, Spider Man and Tom looked after all our needs throughout the journey and made the memory of a lifetime for our family. Highly recommend.

Bai tu long truly offers mesmerising views and with very few boats around you can truly experience tranquility. This is much better than more touristy Halong bay. Staying overnight in the cruise completes the overall experience.

This was undoubtedly the highlight of the journey of mine! We went on a three day cruise in Halong Bay as well as the surrounding region. The outstanding attractiveness of Halong Bay was breathtaking. We went kayaking often to beaches along with kayaking by way of a cave! I'd certainly go again because it was an experience I won't ever forget!

Choosing Bai Tu Long over Ha Long Bay was the best decision! We enjoyed the same stunning limestone karsts but with far fewer tourists. Our overnight cruise felt so private and romantic. Kayaking through hidden caves and watching the sunset from deck was magical. The seafood dinner under the stars was unforgettable. Perfect for couples seeking tranquility!

Has anyone taken the 2 day 1 night cruise to Bai Tu Long Bay on Dragon Legend recently? If so, would you recommend it and were you moved to a different boat on the second day or did you stay on the Dragon Legend for the whole journey? We will be there in August and would like a luxury overnight experience.

Is there a 3 day cruise that takes you to BOTH Halong Bay and Bai Tu Long Bay? I want to see both and am hoping there’s one cruise that does all of it rather than making two separate bookings and looking for time in between where I have to stay on land. Thanks!
Written November 6, 2019
I apologise for my delay, there are quite a number of cruises that do the 3 day cruise which takes in both bays but the one I loved was the Signature Cruises, they are simply the best, they take care of you wonderfully, have exquisite food and the cabins are out of this world.

Hi, we are doing a 3d2n cruise of Halong bay and cat ba but want to do an extra day trip to Bai Tu Long bay without going back to Hanoi. We mainly just want to kayak the caves and fishing villages. Does anyone know if this is possible.
Written September 7, 2019
I am sure travel agents in Hanoi are able to accommodate your request. However I suggest you join a cruise to Bai tu long bay. All the buses end up at Halong Bay jetty and then bum boat ride to transfer to your Cruise ship (where you will be staying the night). The itinerary of my 2D1N for a group of 14 guest, was on arrival at cruise ship we had lunch and then a short rest before meeting up , hop in bum boat, ride to kayak jetty where we paddle for approx. 20mins to the beach, swim, chill for maybe an hour and kayak back to jetty, to hop in bum boat again to go back to cruise , dinner and activities ( games or squid fishing. The next day, tai chi in the morning if you are an early riser, visit a cave and return to cruise ship, spring roll making activity, and while having lunch cruise ship start sailing towards Halong Bay and last ride on bum boat to the jetty to catch bus back to Hanoi. But for people staying another night, you will be transfer to join groups doing the Cat Ba instead of returning to Halong jetty.

Hi Dianne
We are thinking of travelling to Vietnam in January with the family (3 kids aged 10 - 14) - I am interested in if you thought it was too cold to enjoy? could you swim in Bai Tu? What cruise did you go on? Did you go to Sapa at this time of year? Any advice would be great.
Thanks.
Cathy
