On a cruise and did a day trip on a junk with another couple. It was cold unfortunately but the crew gave us a lovely lunch, some nice drinks, amazing fruit sculptures, and some blankets! We were booked on the Fairy Junk and they had to make a change to the L’Amour Junk which was equally as nice. Good communication with Jolie. The trip itself was informative to a point - lots of sailing) and we visited a pearl farm and a cave. A good trip with excellent crew.

We did a 3 days 2 nights boat trip on a luxurious boat, dragon legend 1. Everything good, excellent service, excellent food, the best was the van from and to Hanoi. But the boat trip was a disappointment, slow speed out, anchoring around the first island, so we did not see the city. With 20 - 30 other boats. Next day we moved few 100 meters doing some activities, then back to the anchoring place again. We expected a longer trip, not only few 100 meters from the harbor. We visiting a cave and a fishing village... Possible to do more from shore, and at lower cost. I think some 100 boats are doing similar trips, starting to be crowded. I like boats, but this was not for me. Excellent food, excellent crew, it’s the trip that is wrong.

We did the 2 day, 1 night Prince Junk cruise on Bai Tu Long Bay. I spent a lot of time researching Halong Bay. I have always wanted to go but the increasing reports of congestion and pollution had left me slightly fearful. I certainly don’t regret my choice: the Prince Indochina Junk for a 1 night cruise. With only 4 cabins it was the perfect choice for a more intimate experience. If the Bai Tu Long Bay only has 20% of the tourists of Halong Bay then I can’t imagine how busy the other side must have been. The small boat was lovely; the fact that we could have our drinks and meals on the open deck watching the scenery go by was fabulous and by all accounts not something available on most boats. I will never forget watching the sunset from the boat after a lovely kayak around the Karstands, truly magical. The cabins were clean and comfortable and the crew lovely. A special shout out to our guide Handsome Duc; his knowledge of the area and stories really made the trip! We also appreciated the concerted environmental effort of the cruise line and their work with local fishing communities. All groups should be forced to commit to the same efforts to keep this UNESCO site clean for future generations. It was clear that the area is developing fast so would certainly advise those that are thinking of visiting to go sooner rather than later and to visit the Cat Bi side.
