On a cruise through Asia we had a full day in Halong Bay and I had booked the Nang Tien Junk for a full day with our group of 14 people . When we arrived at the pier we went all together to the new Cruise Terminal where we were welcomed by the people from Indochina Junk . We met our guide Smit and went to the tenderboat to get on board the Nang Tien which was waiting for us just a little ways off shore and we were soon on our way.
Despite it being a cool day we all loved the cruising between the many island we received a welcome drink and were made comfortable with some blankets . We had a wonderful day and we had a very nice program visiting the fishing village seeing the oyster farm where they try to culture the pearls and the local ladies rowed us through the different parts of the village . The scenery is unbelievably beautiful going through a couple of thousand Islands all different sizes and shapes . Midday the crew on board the junk had prepared a delicious lunch and there was coffee , tea or beer available . We also moored at one of the islands and went into the cave with our guide .

I can surely recommend Indochina Junk for a wonderful day , our tour lasted about 9 hours while they also have longer voyages available if you are longer than one day in Halong Bay .
The booking process went very smooth with fast email responses. The crew of the Junk who also did the cooking and serving was wonderful and our guide Smit was very good .

Highly recommended !

My husband and I decide we wanted to experience one of the 7 wonders of the world (Ha Long Bay) in the privacy of our own boat. We were not disappointed!

Our crew and guide were amazing and made our trip so memorable. We set off on L'Amour III and from the moment we stepped on board we were immersed in ultimate luxury.

Captain Dang and engineer Nhu new all the great spots, our english speaking guide Mr T was full of knowledge and provided amazing service and our chef Nam provide a culinary experience for every meal that was out of this world (including food carving an exact replica of the boat).

To say it is worth the money is an understatement, this trip will remain one of our favourite memories of all time.

I wish that I could give this review 5 stars, but there were a couple things about this tour that did not sit well with me. The booking process with the travel agent was quick, and everything was well-explained. The boat was absolutely beautiful, and I was greeted by the crew upon my arrival. I told the travel agent sights that I had previously visited, and the staff made it a point to go to places I had not seen, or were a little “off the beaten path.” I really, really appreciated that, because otherwise, I know I would not have seen these sights otherwise. The food was plentiful, local, and absolutely delicious.

The cons of this experience were the suggestions from the tour guide that I should adopt his nephew (more than once). I put on a happy face, but I feel like this comment was disrespectful and inappropriate. I was traveling alone, and I wonder if these comments would have been said if I was with another person. The other thing that did not sit well with me was the not so subtle hint that I should be tipping everybody. Now, I absolutely understand that tourism is a major employer in the area, but I felt like I was just being viewed as someone to make money off of, as opposed to someone trying to enjoy an experience. I worked in the service industry for several years, and I understand the value of tipping for services provided. At the end of the trip, I shook hands with the crew, and they all awkwardly lingered. The tour guide even suggested that “if I wanted to give something to the Captain, it would be a good time to do it.” I gave him the envelope that I put the tip money in, and the Captain opened it directly in front of me, and was visibly disgusted. It was an awkward and uncomfortable situation, which I tried to explain to my tour guide. I asked if I could give tips to the travel agent, and he said to tip them directly, which is what I did. I paid money for the tour, and if extravagant tips are the expectation, it should be included in the already expensive package pricing. These interactions left me with a sour taste in my mouth after an otherwise beautiful day.

Dear TiffanycH14003BP, We sincerely appreciate you taking the time to write a good feedback of your recent day trip in Bai Tu Long Bay with Indochina Junk. It is always encouraging for us to learn from our customer experience to furthermore improve our service quality in the future. We would like to deeply apologize for out staff’s attitude that may have caused you negative feelings on your overall cruising experience. We are sure that our staff did not mean anything disrespectful even though the joke was inappropriate. It is an unwanted misunderstanding that we hope you can forgive us. We truly appreciate your contributive comments on the tipping, we will inform the crew so that this will not happen again. We hope that this won’t affect your enjoying the magnificent view of the secluded Bai Tu Long Bay that we all adore. Once again, thank you so much for your trust in us for your meaningful vacation. We wish you all the best and hope to see you again in the future for more interesting adventures in Vietnam. Sincerely, Indochina Junk

The Bai Tu Bay experience is something very special. We chose Bai Tu instead of Ha Long Bay because it is not as well known.

Aside from the unique beauty of the area, the peace we felt particularly while rowing around a tiny fishing village (a side excursion from the boat) somewhere in a distant world — was almost a religious experience. The world stopped for a time, and we knew that it had stopped...

We were aboard Indochina’s Dragon Bay boat, one of 15 boats/ships they operate. Reserved for just two couples, the 80 foot boat was fully equipped, with 3 staterooms below and seating for perhaps 12 above. The crew, and in particular Sang, a humble 34 year old, was great. During a break I said hello to his wife as he was FaceTiming her. If I understood correctly, he spends 25 days a month away from her.

The food Sang served for us was surprisingly good. In fact, of the three weeks of meals we had on our tour through high end hotels and ships in Asia, this one ranked right up there. Additionally, they knew about and accommodated our food preferences and allergy concerns.

Our guide, Punoc, met us at the boat terminal — an impressive operation adjacent to massive new hotels, a new amusement park and a towering tram ride. (By the way, most of the facilities were new or being built, and empty. Eerie.) Punoc was very nice and quite knowledgeable. I liked how he presented himself.

I should add that we were met at our downtown Hanoi hotel by a young Indochina-Junk agent, who took us to a waiting luxury van, welcomed us in the van with her brief and memorized speech, and then sent us on our two hour drive to the terminal with a driver that might have spoken two words of English. There was one rest stop along the way. The drive was very comfortable but a bit eerie. (There’s that word again.): No communication with the driver, no guide, a perfect and beautiful toll road that would rival anything one would see in the US, and virtually no cars. We weren’t sure if we were headed to a wonderful excursion or a prison camp.

One interesting tidbit: At the rest stop, in the cafe, there was a large picture of Donald Trump. No pictures of Ho Chi Minh, just Trump. That picture was certainly worth a thousand words.

Indochina-Junk has their “junk” together. We were impressed as every aspect of the outing was well managed. And frankly, the price we paid — about $650 for four on that boat — was a bargain.

We would go again in a heartbeat.

We had booked 2 day 1 night trip individual cruise Prince Junk Boat
Booking process was smooth and prompt reply by mail and whatsapp. Whatever promised was delivered. Group guide Thomas , Chef and Main help on cruise were very polite and helpful and a special mention of driver Huey whose words were reflective of what Vietnamese people treat us visitors...Very precious guests. Thanks Indo china team.
Though one word of suggestions as this was individual and exclusive tour please discuss menu in advance as we felt bad wasting what we could not eat and some food that we liked was in very small amount we could nt ask for seconds.
Otherwise 5 star all the way

This was by far the most special part of our 2-week trip to Vietnam! We were on a 3 day 2 night cruise on L'Amour #4 which was a boat just for the two of us with a crew of four. The boat was very spacious for the two of us and well appointed. Our tour guide Minh was EXCEPTIONAL answering all of our questions, taking us kayaking, bringing us tea, always there supporting us. Our chef turned out some amazing meals, we felt like we were eating like royalty. And the cruise routes and views were spectacular. Highly recommended for a special get away!!

We always planned to book a cruise while in Halong Bay however I was planning a secret proposal to my girlfriend, now fiance! Indochina Junk have private boat cruises which seemed like the perfect setting for my plan. My experience from the very start, emailing Indochina Junk staff, was very positive and reassuring.

The L'amour 3 is a superb looking traditional junk boat with a fine interior. Our guide, Mr T was very friendly and accommodating. He also provided a lot of information whilst touring a cave and fishing village.

The entire crew did a fantastic job with the surprise proposal on the upper deck. They went to great lengths to ensure it was the perfect setting. It all went very smoothly!

The chef, Nam, cooked some fantastic Vietnamese cuisine decorated with amazing sculptures. You will not go home hungry with the 7 course meals!

Overall we were thoroughly impressed with everything and we highly recommend this cruise. The proposal had to be perfect and it was with the help of the crew. We are extremely gratefuland it will be a memory that lasts a lifetime, thank you.

Our group of eight friends enjoyed a private 3 day 2 night trip on Prince II. The accommodations were quite nice with a surprisingly large shower. We slept very well.
The food was extraordinary coming from a small kitchen and a young talented chef. They also had wine and cocktails available.
Our tour guide Hansome Duc spoke excellent English and provided good information on how the locals live. He even had personal experience living on a small fishing boat. Duc took us on a pleasant kayak trip.

This cruise was one of the highlights of our Vietnam trip.

The most incredible and memorable part of our trip to SE Asia was the 2 day, 1 night stay on Indochina Junk's Prince 2. Our guide, (Handsome) Duc was superb, and offered not only knowledge but personal experience of the region which added to a magical experience. The crew was all top-notch, and undertook special extras for the guests.

The projects being undertaken by Indochina Junk with the local fishing communities are eye-opening and worthy of special note.

A wonderful trip, not to be missed.

I have been recommended this company by numerous people and having now gone myself, I encourage you to go with them also!

Firstly, they visit Bai Tu Long Bay rather than Ha Long Bay. There are less tourists here and less damage from tourists. Although it takes longer to reach than Ha Long bay …. it is worth it! You have already travelled thousands of miles to Vietnam, so travelling a few more miles will be worth it. The also care about the environment issuing glass water bottles for each person and collecting plastic from the sea when kayaking.

I also recommend taking the 2-night cruise, rather than the 3 night. I would have stayed another night if I could! I know 3 other people who took the 1-night cruise and regretted it. Bai Tu Long Bay is so beautiful, and you will want to explore it properly. The boat, rooms and food are of a very high standard and you will feel super relaxed and not want to leave!
There was a good mix of relaxation time and activity time, which included visiting caves and a beach and kayaking. The staff were very friendly and worked so hard.

The only small point to make was that the drinks on the boat were quite expensive.
