Ha Long Bay, in the Gulf of Tonkin, includes some 1,600 islands and islets, forming a spectacular seascape of limestone pillars. Because of their precipitous nature, most of the islands are uninhabited and unaffected by a human presence. The site's outstanding scenic beauty is complemented by its great biological interest. The outstanding value of the property is centered around the drowned limestone karst landforms, displaying spectacular pillars with a variety of coastal erosional features such as arches and caves which form a majestic natural scenery. The repeated regression and transgression of the sea on the limestone karst over geological time has produced a mature landscape of clusters of conical peaks and isolated towers which were modified by sea invasion, adding an extra elemant to the process of lateral undercutting of the limstone towers and islands.

We had an incredible tour of Halong Bay on a private junk. The lunch was incredible as was the view we enjoyed during our 4 hour tour of the Bay. We were also able to take in the caves which we thoroughly enjoyed

In my opinion, no trip to Vietnam would be complete without a trip to Halong Bay. It's a UNESCO site and one of the modern 7 wonders of the natural world. It was a beautiful sunny day of our trip. We explored the area via a tour boat, organized by our cruise ship. Because this was a shore excursion that... More

You cannot leave Vietnam without making sure you go on this cruise. It is breathtaking. We had poor weather but it was still wonderful make sure you do not go fora cheap cruise. Safety very important. An electrical fault on boat near us meant it went on fire. See photo below.

Went on a 4 hour (one day) boat tour. Saw quite a lot of the area, it all was great. Okay, a lot of boats and tourists around some bits, especially the caves we went too but I suppose that is to be expected. We wish we had stayed a night though as 4 hours was not enough and it... More

We were advised to book a cruise through HALONG SAPA EXPERTS website agent and extremely enjoyed our cruise. We got two balcony cabins of Carina cruise and fresh fruits, cocktails and bottles of water were free as well. Do not miss your time for kayaking, caving, visiting floating villages. All were arranged smoothly and definitely worth it.

Halong Bay has stunningly beautiful islands, inlets and rock formations but looses one star because there is no sea life. There are no marine mammals or birds. There is nothing living in tidal zone - no crabs, no seaweed, no shell fish - just bare rock. Something is seriously wrong with the Bay's water quality.
