Serenity Cruises is very good choice to explore Ha Long Bay. Instead of touristy area (Like Sung Sot Cave or Luon Cave) they keep cruising much further to very quite view where 40 km far away. Anchor in Lan Ha Bay for a nite is...More

We went on a 2 day one night cruise to Ha Long bay. It's a good 3 hour drive each way from Hanoi but completely worth it. Would definitely recommend that you spend atleast one night in a cruise. We went with Flamingo cruise. The...More

We had the ‘two day one night’ cruise which is about 23hours long. We were picked up from the quite shabby reception area and transported to the boat Victory Star 8888. We then had lunch which was plentiful and pleasant and cruised round the bay....More

We did a “luxury” 2-day cruise around Halong Bay, Lan Ha Bay and the Cat Ba island. It was pretty expensive for what you actually get. In reality, it’s only a 24-hr cruise, not 2 days, and we spent more on 1-night cruise than on...More

Halong Bay was very beautiful and cold this January 2019. The boat crew was friendly, and the food for lunch was excellent. Lunch was mostly fresh seafood and a vegetable. I come from the Philippines and we have similar rock formations in Palawan, but Halong...More

It’s a beautiful place. Must go before it becomes too commercial (getting there) with too many ships on the water.

Halong Bay cruise (6 Replies)
We'd like to do a one-night cruise in Halong Bay, but we're looking for a mid-range (3-star; not luxury) option. Any suggestions?

Halong Bay 3D/2N for family of 5 Excursion (19 Replies)
Hello TA members, We are planning to do Halong Bay for 3d2N with our family of 5 ( 2 adults, 3 kids (ages 12, 8, and 6). I've been research on this forum for different Junks recommended by our travelers, but i have a question that you might be able to guide me to the right decision. I've looked on line at Phoenix and Dragon Junks and they quoted me with US $1200 for Dragon Junk and US $950 for Phoenix Junk; both price included hotel transfer. Knowing the prices fluctuation and...More

I think you can do better than those prices. As an example Eco-Friendly Vietnam do 3D2N cruises for $175 PP and thats a whole boat charter with a cruise that goes from Cat Ba and that includes all transfers from Hanoi. Not sure whether they do 5 passengers. I would look a little further. In principle its better to book direct with the cruise operator and not your Hotel as a 3rd party may not be the best person to deal with if there's a problem. Cheers Ross

North Vietnam 2015 Itinerary Thoughts & Destinations (4 Replies)
Hi all, We are presently looking at options for a trip to north Vietnam next year, either in the April (preferred) or September school breaks. 2 adults and 2 young teenage boys (13 + 14 then). Present thought is as follows: Day 1-3: Hanoi Day 4:Hanoi/Halong Bay Day 5: Halong Bay Day 6: Halong Bay/Hanoi/night train to Sapa Day 7-8; Sapa Day 9; Sapa/night train to Hanoi Day 10:Hanoi Days 11-14:???? That's the point I come to a bit of muddle over. Are we better staying around...More

I would recommend that you stay in the north as your itinerary includes a lot of not overly comfortable travelling without adding another region to the mix. Moreover, when travelling time is deducted you would only have a couple of days in central Vietnam, so only time for one place and frankly not worth the additional cost. You could easily fill your additional time in Hanoi itself, with one or two day trips thrown in, or you could do a two or three night tour to Mai Chau or Ninh Binh. ...More
