John Gray's Hong by Starlight with Sea Cave Kayaking and Loy Krathong Floating

499 reviews
Discover the hidden “hong” lagoons and sea caves of Phang Nga Bay on an adventure that’s timed to beat the worst of the crowds. After lunch on the boat, your guide paddles you through Koh Panak Cave and the caves and lagoons around Hong Island. Eat dinner, then make your own “Krathong” offering and float it in Koh Panak Cave. Fireflies and luminescent plankton provide a natural light show.

On a grey and rainy day we visited Soi Dog Foundation. Since there are no longer any tourists in Thailand, we had a private tour of the venue. Silvia was our guide for the duration and she did a great job explaining what the foundation is doing for dogs as well as cats. I volunteer at Lanta Animal Welfare on Koh Lanta, a similar but much much smaller organisation, so for me there wasn't much I didn't know about the daily routine of such a place. But plenty to learn in terms of the sheer size and running an organisation like this. It was impressive to see so many dogs housed together in their runs, the camera surveillance at night to break up any fights, etc. Behavioral therapists are on staff to handle and teach the more difficult dogs. There are close to 1000 dogs at the foundation at the moment. Since so many restaurants have closed, lots of strays are struggling to find food. The animal hospital is very impressive as well. It's huge and completely independent as they use the water from the pond on the premises for all watering purposes at the foundation. We ended our tour with a visit to the cats quarters, where we hung and cuddled for at least an hour with the most affectionate kitties. Thank you Silvia for your warm welcome and all the information!

Hi MariekeK973, Thank you for taking the time out your duties at your local shelter in Koh Lanta, to visit Soi Dog Foundation. We are happy to hear that even with your experience, you had the opportunity to learn more the operational aspects of Soi Dog Foundation. We hope it benefits you and the animals you help, even further. It's great that you also got the chance to check out our newly refurbished cattery abode as the tour wrapped up. Will pass your message to Silvia. She will be delighted to know you had a great time. Thank you for visiting and sharing your experience with anyone else who'd like to visit us.

What an incredible opportunity to witness the work being done by the people at the Soi Dog Foundation. I drove an hour in the pouring rain for the 1:30pm tour, and was late because of the terrible weather. However, I arrived and Sylvia happily led me on my own private tour of the facilities. It's so uplifting to see how these animals are treated, and the relationships that they have formed with the workers. Not a drooping tail in sight; happy wags all around. I hope to be a flight volunteer whenever I return back to the States, as well as maybe adopt my own pup from Soi Dogs. Thank you, Sylvia! Thank you, team!

Dear BesstWishes, Thanks for the great feedback. We're so pleased you came (in spite of the weather!) and we are glad it was a worthwhile trip! Silvia gives a great tour and we're delighted you have shown interest to become an adopter and a flight volunteer. These are such rewarding and valuable things to do and we hope they can happen in the not-too-distant future. Kind regards from all at Soi Dog!

I volunteered last week at the Soi Dog Foundation in Phuket. All the regular staff members were incredibly friendly and I felt welcome since the first day. The place is surprisingly clean and all animals are treated with dignity. There is no danger for volunteers as the dogs were all previously trained by behaviourists. They have detailed descriptions about each dog’s character. Reading those descriptions and following the advise of the staff I didn’t face any challenges. The love which the dogs show you is very rewarding. Can’t wait to come back and volunteer again. Huge thanks to the Soi Dog team!

We visited earlier this morning and were treated to a full two-hours tour of the facility. Silvia gave us a fantastic tour, patiently answered all our silly questions and even treated our kids to play time with the pups. Clearly this is being run by a team that has a purpose in life and they seem to be loving every moment of it. Must do for those who love dogs and cats and must do for even those who don’t but want to experience a higher cause. Well done team Soi Dog.

This is definitely one of places to visit on Phuket. I never seen before how big is abandoned animals problem. Soi Dog Foundation take care not only dogs, but cats too. They help to find home for thousands of dogs and cats each year worldwide.
