There's only a couple of places in the world like this, so definitely worth going for the experience if there are planes landing. But some things to know before you go. First of all, if you're staying in the most popular spots on Phuket, Mai Khao Beach is far. Really far. Which means expensive. And that's if your driver knows where he's going. My brainless driver always seemed to take the slowest way possible even when I kept pointing out a better way on Google maps. Secondly, only about half the year do planes land from the sea side. If they're taking off into the sea side, it's not as spectacular. Planes like to land into the wind, and also take off into the wind. Seems counterintuitive, but that's the way it is. You can look up why. The dry season is best for this here. The other half of the year, the winds blow the wrong way. Check wind direction that day before you come all the way out here. Also check the plane arrivals schedule, obv. Fortunately, on this mid-morning in December, the weather was nice, the winds aligned, and the planes were landing every 10 minutes or so. Also, the walk to the plane landing spot is long. 800 meters or so if you approach from the South. It looks shorter from the North, but for whatever reason, my driver refused to take me that way. Keep that in mind if you want to see a particular flight. Allow extra time.

You can see the planes up close. It is recommended to visit around noon or in the evening. Because a lot of planes land. The location is about 15 minutes drive from the airport. I visited by motorbike. It takes about an hour from my hotel in Patong Beach. It is possible to go near the view spot by motorbike. If you visit by car, walk about 10 minutes from the parking lot.

Nice beach, clean and beautiful. We enjoyed swimming. It is located right next to the airport. But it is better to know arrival time of the planes, in other case you can wait too long. The nice photos you can take only with arriving planes, departing are flying too high
