- davidwilliambarnesBlackpool, United Kingdom1,542 contributionsPlenty of sand!I must admit that I expected better after not visiting this beach for a couple of years. The plus points are that it is a long sandy beach so you have a choice where to sit/swim. The vendors are still cheery and accommodating. I was disappointed with the amount of rubbish around and it wasn’t a pleasant site seeing so many old western men trying to cop off with younger thai women and boys!!!Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 6, 2023
- Dan LBunbury, Australia8,538 contributionsBeautiful Jomtien BeachWe last visited here in 1988, dinner in an old railway carriage, and an expanse of golden beach that stretched to the distance. The beach still exists, looks a little narrower that 35 years ago but now has a backdrop of hotels, condominiums, restaurants, spas and no doubt other interests in the alleyways. A great area to unwinds for a week or more.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 26, 2023
- pianocelloShah Alam, Malaysia1,944 contributionsStandard beachAs far as beaches are concerned, this is quite normal. It is best for people-watching and looking at the sunset. There's a night market and some play areas for children. The sand quality is not that great and there are too many people for my taste. The biggest turn-off for some is that in some areas there are many sleazy old white guys going around trying to pick up very young girls and boys.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 29, 2023
- Gerry R3 contributionsLitter and hawkersJomtien beach is well served by attentive parasol/bed operators and numerous vendors hawking their wares. After a while it becomes tiresome when some grab your foot. Unfortunately the sea and beach are getting buried under litter and whatever the tide washes up. Our last visit included stepping in thick crude oil. It’s noisy and unpleasant and I can’t understand why they commercial operators can’t organise a proper beach clea.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 16, 2024

Much cleaner than Pattaya beach, less crowds, and better for walking. Worth it to travel here and check it out. You might like it much more than Pattaya Beach and the local Tuk Tuk only charges 20B. A taxi may charge you as high as 200B, but do not do it. Wait for the local Tuk Tuk... looks like a small bus/truck. (blue) and take this to Jomtien. Jomtien Beach may be better for families too, as it was quieter, cleaner and had more space to play. Less jet skis, and boats as well.

It is far better than the rest of beaches in pattaya including Pattaya beach but still it is not that too good, I mean the water in sea is till is unclear due to polluted wastes and uncleaned sides. It needs cleaning on the outside near the sands, I think government or management can do it just by simply using dozers and other equipments. The safety areas and the bars also needs badly cleaning and maintenance I guess it’s not cleaned since it was built or in use, the whole safety rope is full of yeast and mosses of green and white color, either it is natural but can be removed and cleaned 🧼 but uncared by management. It says zero waste beach on board but still people do eat, smoke and throw nearby so they must remain strict on that either. It is not that too ideal beach 🏖 for the vacations, coral island 🌴 and sea is the best one in case to find a best gem 💎

Jomtien Beach is located in the south, about 4 kilometers from Pattaya City. The beach is 6 kilometers long, with shady roads along the beach all the time. Compared to Pattaya Beach Jomtien Beach has less nightlife. Therefore suitable for those who like a quiet atmosphere. but not too lonely Because Jomtien Beach is located in a neighborhood with restaurants. convenience store and complete service Jomtien Beach offers beach chairs, beach umbrellas and hawker food for tourists to have lunch. Ready to sit and relax by the sea For those who love water activities The beach offers rides such as banana boats, jet skis, windsurfing, sailing and parasailing.

Although the beach road is busy and hectic the beach is very long and there is always lots of choice of well shaded deck chairs on a lovely sandy clean beach. Huge choice of restaurants cafes and shops, also a good night market. You can park on the beach side of the road though it does get very busy.

Jomtien beach is th he far better choice for your visit here.
Pattaya is still a nightmare because of construction workers digging up the road.
Jomtien is clean, almost pristine.
Always a good breeze, Dongtan beach area is excellent.
Wednesday umbrellas free.
A great night time market here too.

Jomtien Beach is different to any other beach I have visited in Thailand. It's busy, close to Pattaya, but surprisingly enjoyable and quite clean. The water is good with easy swimming and people are there to offer beach chairs and parasols, as well as fruit and other snacks. There is parking all along the beach side and it was great to see so many people enjoying themselves. There are restaurants all along too and we really enjoyed the Café Le Mar - lovely relaxed place with great food.

We were looking forward to our daily length swims at the Jomtier beach.
We were very disappointed when we realized that the foam and greenish water colour at the Jomtier is very likely due to the pollution from all those high rise condos in the area.
Thankfully we had 2 beautiful pools at the place we have stayed in so we were still took care of our daily swims.
Other condo residents also urged us not to swim at the Jomtier beach.
We were wondering about all those other tourists that swam at the beach - hope they did not pick up any sickness there.
Area around Jomtier beach is great for walking and exploring street food including fantastic fruit.
There is also group of fishing boats and I loved to watch the fishermen early in the morning when they return from the gulf with their catch.
Would go back to Jomtier beach but not for swimming in the gulf.

This time we lived in the middle part of the beach, approximately where the tuk-tuk final stop is now. The beach was amazing. Clean space with good entrance to the sea. The water doesn't smell like waste. The month of December was quite warm even for my four year old child. Great sunsets. Lots of new buildings, mostly condominium towers. I never noticed a pile of garbage like there was before. In general, everything is getting better.

We stayed at the jomtien beach hotel. All i can say is the rooms are Mediocre and the beds are awful. We have never suffered such awful back pain since sleeping here the staff are ok but pim was lovely. The person who constantly tried to over charge us was fern. Even trying to charge for two hours for the taxi to wait for us. They never changed the beds, no toilet rolls, clean linen even towels. If you would like to stay in a dump and get ripped off then stay at the jomtien beach hotel.

Well, I didn't really like the beach here. It's quite wide and very long - but . . .
The sand is quite coarse and has lots of shell fragments . And the water is dirty.
At the top end there is absolutely no place to relax. Towards Pattaya/north there are a few, then more and more palm trees and trees. There are no parasols or sunbeds here either. Just a sandy desert - and it's also quite dirty. Now and again there are beach vendors - but they aren't pushy.
The sea is also very quiet here - no noise - no waves - even during thunderstorms .
So what I personally missed most here was that it doesn't look like a tropical country at all. No greenery - no plants - no shade.
No comparison to Phuket

My fiancé and I planning to go to Jomtien beach. We’re staying at city center residence now. We wanted to know if we need to book the hotels there before we can swim or use the beach?? Or we can use the beach without booking any hotel there? Thanks in advance.
Written September 21, 2019
You can use the beach at your leisure.

Hi,
Seems the beach is pretty long, so I would expect some location along it are better than others, either for relaxing on the beach itself or for accomodation.
Any advice for the best location?
Thanks,
Didier

Hi.
Yes the beach is about 3 kilometres long.
There are resorts right along the beach but the area around Jomtien town has good accomodation options as well as restaurants, bars etc. Further along the beach the resorts seem to cater more for Russian guests. The beach is clean near Jomtien and is also patrolled by Thai police.

Hi
Thinking of staying in Jomtien area but very hesitant. Can someone give me some information please as to whether there are plenty of restaurants, shops and night life around that beach? I know Jomtien is quieter than Pattaya so not expecting crazy busy. But at the same time, I don’t want to stay in a dead place with nothing to do but stay in hotel. Appreciate your responses.

Hi, this is Jan!
I am in Jomtien since five years, staying always at the same hotel (about 80 nights a year: Poseidon - not the cheapest one but very good in my eyes; but there are cheaper options nearby) and never felt boring. I only go to Pattaya for shopping or playing badminton or so. Otherwise Pattaya is too touristic for me. Please make sure you stay close to Dongtan Beach - then you are more or less in the heart of Jomtien. The gay area here (if you looking for that) is even bigger and better than in Pattaya. Anyway: Do not expect lovely beaches here like in the Thailand-Brochures. The beaches are ok, but not like in some Thailand advertisements.
If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me here.
Best regards and have fun in the country of smile!

Are there any hotels in Jomtien which allow non residents to use pool and facilities?
Written January 5, 2018
I think the answer would be no, you can always just walk into the bigger hotels and take a chance.
