The beach is quite beautiful and very peaceful. No beach vendors and very few resorts, it is mostly villas that you can rent. Be aware that on one side of the bay all resorts/restaurants are very close to the main road so you hear the card passing by - check your specific location in Google maps before coming. You can swim all day and there is some shade from Palm trees.

We visited quite a few beaches on our tour through Thailand and Bang Po was easily our favorite. It is quiet and secluded, it is not crammed with tourists like so many others. The water is warmer than a bath and there are not crashing waves which make this a great beach to wade and lay in the shallow waters. Because there are not as many large waves the sand is more coarse than some of the other beaches, but never enough to need shoes.

This stretch of beach is on the northwest of the island and has good clean water and sandy beachfront. A few resorts and villas along the beach and best of all ...no touts. A few restaurants along the beach set back a bit to enjoy a beer and a meal. Very sedate area with great views across to Koh Phangnan. Possibly the best part of the island other than Lipa Noi and Taling Ngam.

Definitely one to visit, do not miss out on this stylish, trendy and upbeat bar. The tapas food was the best I have had, the cocktails were great and the service was good, nice and friendly. It is the best beach bar in the area by far. We enjoyed the use of the luxury beds during the day as well as the Sundowners in the evening.

What a great find, amazing location on the beach!! if you want to chill on beach during day with nice drinks and great food this place is perfect, chilled, relaxed & quiet the reason you come Thailand to get away.
night time can be livelier depending anything happening in bar or again nice and chilled drinks, great main meals and nibbles and Tapas
we loved this bar, during day and evening as a starter for a few drinks before dinner or a few drinks chilled on the beach on the way home, at the bar, or just laying on beds on beach looking at the clear sky with bright moon.. great memories we've got..
An all round winner, if your in Samui def have a couple drinks and nibbles/ tapas one day or evening. enjoy your trip..

Stayed at the excellent Code hotel, and used the Vela Beach Lounge Bar most days down on Bang Po beach, run by Ben the son of the owner of the Code hotel, best sun loungers along this strip of beach, good selection of food & beverages staff very friendly and helpful. It's a very quiet stretch of beach, no beach vendors, no jet ski's just a nice relaxing chill out area, if you're looking for more excitement then Lamai or Cheweng Beach's is where you need to head for.
Congratulations Ben & Georgina on the birth of your new baby boy.

For me this is the area / beach you go to get away from the hustle and bustle of Chaweng, Lamai and even Maenam.
You can spend a day on a quiet beach, not being hassled by vendors, eating lunch in a local beach side restaurant and generally getting a feel for the real Samui, not the commercialized one.
Bang Po is the kind of place people retire near, the kind of place you could spend your later years just chilling out and having long lazy days.
The beach / sand quality is not the finest on the island but in my opinion the solitude you can find here more than makes up for it.

A lovely, quiet beach facing the North side of Koh Samui so it is shaded by gorgeous Palms on shore earlier in the day day than most of the other beaches on the island which I found too hot for running on. Many runners I see including ourselves use this beach because it is cooler and more shaded perfect for a yoga workout or join the 7 am Tai Chi/Qi Gong group near the health food store. Most of the restaurants along the beach are excellent , cannot seem to have a bad meal here, we only eat Thai food though but many European options are offered. We can recommend Som, for fried fish with Thai herbs, and Bang Por Seafood for fish well prepared and always fresh. Rasta Bar for friendly staff and owner who always makes it feel like a party, also ate there several times with great gusto. Our newest find here is the Island Hoppers Bar and adjoining Thai restaurant, we arrived late at night so could only get Thai food which was what we wanted. After eating on Koh Samui for several months now I can hands down say Island Hoppers Bar has the best Thai food we have eaten anywhere on the island with large portions enough to make the biggest eater happy (us). The Maseman Green chicken curry was like a coconut perfumed slice of heaven. Some jelly fish, not the poison ones but still stinging coming in with the tides this week so use caution when swimming. Water is VERY shallow.

What makes good beach is a very personal thing. Do you want a long shallow & flat sea good for kids swimming, or waves for surfing, or rocks for exploring?
We spent 10 days at a villa on Bang Po beach and although not perfect has a number of charms.
Why I liked it:-
- Very peaceful / a complete lack of people. In contrast to the popular Chaweng where you fight for space, at Bang Po you can walk for 5 minutes without seeing another soul & the only beach seller we saw was selling ice creams.
- Reasonable sand, ok (ish) for sand castles, in some parts of the beach the sand can get a little sharp, however there is a usuallly line of soft sand along the high tide line.
- Good / interesting sea, in lots of places along the beach there are some good spots & rocks for intersting snorkeling / exploring.
- Overhanging palms and other trees, good for shade, attaching swings too & generally looking like an idyllic tropical paradise...
What to be aware of:-
- Less people = less businesses, there are plenty of cafes / massage huts, but at times there can be a 10 minute + walk from one to the next. They mostly seem to be in clusters.
- The beach is thin, at high tide it can be only a metre or 2 wide at some places.
- The sand is not the best in the world, but I found it nearly comparable with Chawengs sand.
Overall we loved it, the lack of people on a lovely beach being the key factor as it really makes you feel like you've found a hidden gem

We happened on this beach today and was blown away by its beauty and simplicity. The restaurants are simple and traditional and the view is breathtaking. There was only a handful of people there so felt like our own beach! Would highly recommend you put this one on your list of places to visit in Samui

Hallo
Hi
We intend to spend our family holidays on bang por beach in January. Our child is two years old.
Is it true, that there is not very suitable for small kids because of the near coral reef and warning of sea urchins?
Thanks a lot for answering:)

Hello , The bang Por beach is with some fine and yellow sand. The sea is not very deep in this place There is not rock by the waterside. It is ideal for the children because the beach is not very broad it is well to watch them , about urchins i Don't know
Have nice holidays

Any accommodations suggestions direct on Bang Po beach around the 1500 Baht price per night with breakfast. We are in our late sixties and were seasoned back packers. We do not need a swimming pool if you can go swimming and the beach should be clean. No jet skis or loud music in the vicinity would be an advantage. We intend to stay for a period of 3 weeks in Feb 2017. I look forward to any advice from trip advisor fans. Many thanks.
