This is perhaps the best yoga studio that I have been to in Thailand in the past four years. That encompasses 3 places that I’ve been to on Ko Phangan, 4 in Chiang Mai, and 1 in Pattaya. I typically stay in Thailand for 2 months each visit.
I have been practicing yoga for 9 years. During those 9 years I have practiced Hatha, Anusara, Ashtanga, Iyengar, Vinyasa, Kundalini and Jivamukti styles of yoga. In 2010 I traveled to Rishikesh, India to practice non-westernized, classical Hatha and Iyengar yoga in the manner it was intended to be practiced. I have been to Rishikesh 5 times since 2010 in my pursuit of purer, deeper and more meaningful yoga than can be typically found in western countries. One of my teachers in India has said that the purpose of yoga is to help you “find your true self”. When I practice traditional Indian yoga, it resonates to my core like nothing that I’ve ever done in a western country.
At Freedom Yoga, the 2 primary teachers did their teacher training in Rishikesh. The type of practice that they share with their students comes much closer to resembling the true, traditional Hatha Yoga that I sought after and experienced on my trips to India. The classes differ from day to day, but they usually would feature slow to medium paced sequences with longer holds and emphasis on pranayama and bandhas……elements that I have only mostly experienced during my India trips. I went to Freedom Yoga for over 2 weeks since its inaugural opening in January and had only extremely positive experiences there with the 2 teachers and other students. The 2 primary teachers whose classes I attended were genuine yogis who radiated warmth, friendliness, compassion and doting, careful attention to the well being of their students.
The other places that I’ve practiced at in Chiang Mai all represent various hybridizations between westernized styles and traditional Indian yoga practices, leaning more heavily toward westernization in most cases. That includes a more impersonal approach to treating the students more like clientele (customers?) and rushing people out the door at the conclusion of a class so the teacher or a collaterally located business could resume their daily activities. Some of the other places were more reminiscent of the fast-food, drive-though window yoga mentality that is prevalent in the west, particularly the U.S. Some of the other yoga studios seem to have a revolving door of teachers coming through. I’ve seen almost a complete turnover of teachers at 2 or more of these yoga studios each year I return to Chiang Mai. At least for me it’s nice to have some thread of familiarity and continuity by practicing with the same teacher(s) as I have done for 5 years on trips to Rishikesh.
At Freedom Yoga I never felt rushed, unwelcomed, or like just another paying customer. I would unequivocally say that the atmosphere at Freedom Yoga is very friendly and welcoming….the vibes there are very positive. People are not herded out the door at the conclusion of a class, much to the contrary, they are genuinely welcomed to hang out in the studio or the juice bar/lounge on the ground floor. In my case, after class I hung out to do a few more asanas to complete my personal practice and would then proceed downstairs for juice and a snack while I hung out and chatted for a while with the teacher(s) and other people who might have just been hanging out. .
Of the other yoga studios I have been to in Chiang Mai, a couple of them were good places that I would go to again, but I was so very impressed by Freedom Yoga that “I know for a fact” that I will go there again on my annual trip to Chiang Mai......

FYI: not a review of the yoga class itself. I left 4 stars as a courtesy.
We dropped by the studio about 30 minutes before the class to check it out after reading good reviews online. We walked from the old city and were able to find it easily just off the main road. The woman at the front door was kind and let us come in and look around. I'm pretty allergic to cats and this place set off my allergies immediately. There were litter boxes on the main floor and a few cats roaming around. We decided not to do the class because of the strong cat smell/dander, so if you are sensitive this may not be the place for you. The upstairs studio seemed nice and well set up, if you aren't sensitive I'm sure that this would be a great spot!

Place is clean and the location is not difficult to find. I did the yoga flow class on Sunday morning - it was suitable for all levels. Really enjoyed it!

I've been living in chaing mai now for 2 months training Muay Thai. I constantly think about doing some additional exercise. So I gave yoga a go. Best decision! The instructor was super friendly and so helpful to my first practice. There were more experienced people in the class so I had to keep up, but with the assistance from the instructor I managed to get through in one piece! Definitely recommend freedom yoga to anyone who wants to up their game. Awesome experience can't wait for the next one:))

We came as quite different (but still novice) levels. My partner is quite inflexible and has attempted yoga a handful of times. I used to go once a week to a corporate yoga so by no means any expert!
We were made to feel welcome, given valuable teaching and the class was made to be accessible to all levels so we both took so much from it and others who were far better appeared to too.
Really enjoyed the space too, very clean but still cozy and had a great energy.
We read about it and rocked up in the morning about 9.45 to book with no issues.

Young, English speaking instructor gave a challenging Flow Yoga 90-minute class. Class was full, as understood most are, so get there 15 minutes early. Classes are generally at 10:00 and 18:00, Flow and Hatha, respectively.

I spent about a week in Chiang Mai taking Adam's yoga classes at Freedom Yoga. His classes are top notch: he gets to the nitty gritty of each pose, giving meticulous instructions so that you perform each one safely and to suit your level, meaning that his classes are also accessible to beginners. Thank you, Adam!

Wish we had more time to visit Adam's yoga studio. We did two lessons and both felt very nice. The lessons helped me so I could do the lessons at home better!

I wasn't in Chaing Mai long, but had an amazing class here that was both challenging and in great humour. I'd recommend this authentic studio.

I didn't see it in their schedule. Perhaps there are adhoc classes? Best to check by giving them a call or sending them a message via their website. They are very responsive.
