About
Thai Akha Kitchen is run by Akha people who were born and raised in Thailand. We love Thai food just as much as you! Give us a chance to tell you our story. Our small culture will sooner or later cease to exist and will become forgotten, so this is our chance to pass down our traditions and cooking styles to the world in hope that at least some parts of it will live through people who continue to use our techniques. Akha Food is totally different from Thai Food and is much healthier and fresher. Akha people have a saying: “There are only three things in jungle that you can’t eat, and nobody knows what they are”. In other words, we haven’t found anything that’s not edible yet!

We absolutely loved our cooking class with Thai Akha. Our host was very insightful and had amazing knowledge on the foods (I am so sorry I do not remember your name!) He was a lovely man with lots of tips. We spent ages researching different cooking schools and found the reviews for Thai Akha great and they offered so much for their price. All the recipes were amazing and I like that you could pick your dish. The cook book was a great touch and I can't wait to try the recipes for myself.
Thanks again for such a wonderful and memorable experience. I loved learning about the Thai foods and culture and would recommend this to everyone visiting Chiang Mai.

Excellent cooking class. Brilliant facilities.
A chance to do the classic well known Thai dishes and also some authentic Akha food.
JJ our guide was fantastic; I was in awe as he instructed 7 people making 4 different curries at the same time!
Loved the market tour. It was brief, but there were opportunities to try produce and it demystified some of the unfamiliar items.
The admin team were really patient as I changed bookings time and again.
I chose this course because it allowed you to learn/witness how to make 11 dishes. Many others only offer 6.
It was also a pleasure to hear from JJ about the Akha people. It is important to give them a voice as Thailand becomes more overcome with tourism.

Our host was wonderfully warm and hospitable, and took care of every need, always a step ahead of us. Not only that, he was a wonderful entertainer, making us laugh through the whole experience, while giving us an authentic cultural experience, and telling us stories of his hometown. The kitchen and tools were very clean, and the hosts were exceptionally professional, organized, and clearly experienced. To this day I use the Thai/Akha cooking tips I learned from this class! If you’re looking to experience Thailand, or just want a relaxing and memorable activity for half day, you can’t miss out on Thai Akha Cooking School.

We visited Niti and her cooking school in January 2019 and have nothing but praise for her abilities, both in teaching us about Akha cooking and the Akha people. This was a genuinely memorable experience and the best of all the cooking schools we have attended in Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. If we are in the same area, would go again.

Being passionate about cooking, I have done cooking classes in many different countries, and have done around ten different cooking courses in Thailand alone. Based on this, I can safely say that Thai Akha cooking school's class was one of the best and the most enjoyable I have EVER attended. Not only is the quality of the school and its facilities, as well as the quality of the classes of a very high standard, but the school also has a wonderful ambience and incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Furthermore, unlike most cooking classes where students learn to make a small handful of dishes, we were taught around TEN dishes in one night, and had an absolute feast of a meal afterwards, enjoying our creations. Additionally, whereas most Thai cooking schools have a similar repertoire of dishes, this school offers a very unique experience of making and tasting Akha cuisine (in addition to many delicious Thai dishes), which its founders are intimately and expertly familiar with. Akha cuisine is wonderfully different and enjoyable, and students are provided with several traditional recipes, enabling them to make the dishes at home. Overall then, this is one of the very best cooking course experiences you could have when you are in Thailand, and I cannot recommend it too highly!

The most excellent cooking course I’ve been on!!
Miti is amazing and sooooo informative (and she challenges your tastebuds too). We were able to choose various dishes and made and ate 10 dishes plus an authentic curry paste for our choice of curry.
The market was a brilliant experience and opened our horizons to new and good tastes. Every person we met was helpful, informative and super nice.
We also learned about Thai culture, the Akha tribe and culinary tips.
Lovely addition to our time in Chiang Mai.
Thank you Miti, Jasmine and Tip 🥰👍

Booked this co because of the good reviews and also because of the amt of dishes you’d learn. Our guide and chef Jay, was great. He’s really Akha so that was super cool to learn from him! You really need to do the AM class so you can go to the market and see that side of society. It was super cool to check out different vendors to to try things.
The class itself was great. It’s definitely a commitment though!! So wear comfy shoes and light clothes cuz you’ll get hot. And bring mosquito spray. We had such a great group of people from all over the world. It was so fun to meet them and to learn so many dishes. I really feel confident in my ability to recreate these dishes back at home—provided I can get the right ingredients. It was so professionally set up, and streamlined so you could focus on learning how to cook. And in enjoying the dishes you made! They did a really good job. Would highly recommend!

This was our second visit to Chiang Mai and our second cooking class there.
We thought that Thai Akha was a much better experience than the first one because there were more dishes to cook and the staff had prepared the ingredients and cooking stations very efficiently.
The food we cooked was delicious and we enjoyed the lunch that followed the end of the class.
We were efficiently picked up from our hotel and deposited back after the class too.
We were given the cookbook which is very professionally produced and I use it very week to make a curry or a salad.
Only downside is now we know how to make GOOD Thai food our local restaurants are somewhat disappointing!

My girlfriend and I had the pleasure of visiting the Thai Akha cooking school while in Chiang Mai. The class size was small and intimate, and the food we learned to cook was incredible. I especially enjoyed learning more about Thai culture, specifically the ancient Akha tribe while cooking the dishes. We wouldn't have changed a thing about our experience here.

Hi, we answer already by Customer Message System.
Thank you to ask.
Hi Is it worth to book a cooking class for people who do not speak english ?
We are group of 4 and I am the only one who is fluent in english, one person knows basics and the other two do not speak at all. I could translate some informations but I am not sure if it is worth it?
Please let me know. Klaudia

Hi Klaudia,
Thank you for your interest in our cooking school...
Our lesson run in English 100%.
We are able to manage all the theoretical parts, we can wait for you to translate for your friends, but the only problem (and not small problem) are when we have the cooking session, for sure you are not able to manage 4 stir fry cooking at the same time and translate the direction from our teacher to the woks!! some dishes can get burn!! :) Basic english can be enough, but if they not speak english at all we can't guarantee the best result. We try in the pass and doesn't work!! Sorry!! Take a private class with us is the only solution to ensure that your group is satisfied. Please contact us by email for more info about our private class.
Thanks
Enjoy Chiang Mai
