Lovely experience! I would definitely recommend to anyone going to Chiang Mai area to go to this tea plantation and join their tea tour (Thai and English tour abailable).
You should book the tour in advance. As we could not communicate so well in English on the phone, I sent a message on their instagram and reserved our visit (500 bahts per person, paid upon arrival). Check their visiting hours and days. Due to Covid, they were forced to reduce the days they are open to the public.
We would recommend to have lunch at their restaurant after the tour. We sat in the garden, sipping tea and enjoying some Thai food.
They have a small store where you can buy their tea (really nice gift to bring home).

We chose private transport to this calm oasis of green about 1-1.5 hrs out of Chiang Mai. It’s near elephant sanctuaries and about 40 mins from the Mae Ngat dam so we combined a trip here and to the dam in one day. As long as there are more than one of you the cost is still less than if you book onto a tour (driver was 2500Bht for Araksa and dam, 2000bht just Araksa) You then pay the tour fee which is 650bht for 1-1.5 hrs. It’s enough to see the plantation, pick some tea, see the tea making process, hear Charlie’s stories (the enthusiastic guide) and enjoy a pot of their tea with cookies. Prices of the tea are not cheap, especially white tea, so be warned! But the quality is excellent and there is a nice (relatively small) shop to browse. Very friendly staff.

We booked this experience as a last minute decision and we are so glad we did. We were picked up by minibus , just the 2 of us and taken on the hours drive from our hotel (probably an hour and a quarter if staying in centre of Chiang Mai) It was definitely worth paying more for a private transfer and tour. When we arrived Charlie was waiting for us and we were taken to a dining area for water, tea and a most delicious carrot cake .
We chose the tea picking experience .They also offer a lunch experience and a tea and dessert experience if you don't fancy picking the tea .We were taken to the tea plants shown how to pick tea and we spent 15 mins collecting leaves to make green tea .Charlie explained how the tea is made and a lady demonstrated heating and drying the leaves. We were made to feel so welcome by all the staff , all this in such a beautiful setting .For the first time this holiday we got to see the real beauty of the countryside. We thought Charlie was excellent, so enthusiastic and informative .We learnt a lot and tasted a lot of tea varieties.
We bought 4 varieties of tea , which was made more special as we knew the process and source of the product.
There is no obligation or hard sell so it is worth it just to experience this wonderful place
A fantastic end to our 5 days in Chiang Mai
Thank you to everyone who made us so welcome .

This was a great tour and very well organised by Absolutely Fantastic Tours Chiang Mai. First we picked tea leaves and found out some of the history of the plantation. We were then taught how they hand roast green tea. We were shown around the factory where other teas are processed. We then got to taste green tea. Both iced and hot. It was delicious. We then had one of the best meals we have had in Thailand it included salad and lightly battered tea leaves, chicken breast, curry, soup and rice. Every dish was a winner. The host was very knowledgeable and funny. Special mention must go to the tea expert who roasts the leaves. She does this purely on instinct. A great day enjoyed by all.

Being tea addicts, when we found out that we could do a tea garden tour during our time in Chiang Mai, we hired a private cab and headed there for the afternoon tour. We were greeted at the front by our tour guide and offered cold towels to freshen up after our hour long drive from Chiang Mai. Our tour guides were knowledgeable of the tea making process, and made the whole experience fun! We wanted to take some additional photos at the end, and they offered to take us back to the garden to accommodate our request! We ended up buying some tea to take home with us! The location is beautiful and the facilities have been maintained very well! See our photos for more detail 😊

I did question as to why we had signed up to this, not really our thing! But we had a great time picking tea learning how the various teas are made and sampling their very best tea & purchasing some to bring home. Charlie the guide was great and very knowledgeable. We really did enjoy our morning here.

Araksa is elegant, beautiful, and informative. I did a tea tour but got lost in the mountains and they waited for me, starting 45 min later than planned. Exceptional service and great tea
It was great to get away from the tourists and enjoy Northern Thailand in a way that excluded cheap souvenirs and bad food

The tour of the Araksa Tea Plantation is fascinating, showing you when and how to pick tea-leaves, how the leaves are made into tea and how different types of tea are made. We were there at the weekend so, unfortunately, we could not see the factory in operation but some demonstrations of the process by hand. There is good restaurant and gift shop on site. Make sure you use insect repellant before going into the field to pick tea leaves.

This is the best tour per my young adult daughter who simply enjoyed being a tea farmer for a few hrs. We learned how to pluck, gather, hand-roast, taste, and have a greater respect for the tea that we drink everyday.
Charlie, the owner, met us as early as in the parking lot. Personally ensured our enjoyment and learning. He was also extremely funny.
I bought tea and hand made soap which are US priced but extremely flavorful.

We will be in Chiang Mai in Feb 2020 and going to Araska Tea Plantation seems interesting. How long was the ride from CM to the plantation and how long did you spend at the plantation?
We will only be in CM for 3.5 days. Would you say this is still worth doing if it takes up a decent chunk of a day? If we are heading up to Araska, is there anything else worth doing/seeing right in that area.
Thank you.

I would say an hour ride from the city to Araksa Tea Plantation.
It is nice to visit Mae Ngad Dam and Wat Ban Den Temple for nature and cultural trip.

How do I get there Feb 2019. Called and they don’t speak English well and it was very difficult to understand. They want to charge 1700b for taxi but I don’t know if that is return. Trouble finding a tour that includes transfer for 1 person. Any taxi or tour company suggestions that takes 1 person to join a group or solo? Tx!

It's not difficult to find a taxi in Chiang Mai. Generally, they charge about 1,500 Baht for a roundtrip transfer between Chiang Mai city and the tea plantation. You may ask the hotel staff. They usually know some taxi drivers.

Hi, any ideas how to get there from Chiang mai as the transfers to the tea plantation are not included. Thanks

The tea plantation is about 1 hour drive north of Chiang Mai. You can hire a car or a local taxi from Chiang Mai city. It should be between 3,000 Baht for a return trip. Otherwise, you can go to asian-oasis website. They offer tours between Chaing Mai city and the tea plantation.

Does anyone know roughly how much a taxi ride from Chiang Mai to Araksa would be? I'm considering hiring a private tour guide to take us there, but I'm not sure if the cost is necessary. Please advise.
Written October 18, 2016
It might depend on the type of vehicle and if you plan to stop anywhere else and for how long. Probably B1000 minimum, possible less, but also could be a bit more.
