Our 2D/1N hike with Song, Dong, and Rudy (our trekking guides) was an unforgettable experience and highlight of our vacation in Chiang Mai. We walked into their HQ (after being recommended by another tour agency) and inquired about multi-day trekking adventures. After convincing them that we were experienced hikers, they created a custom trekking plan for us that covered the 3D/2N trek into our 2D itinerary. In short, it was awesome.

Everything was expertly planned, the food was excellent, and our guides and overnight hosts were so kind and generous. As it was just my girlfriend and I, we had the distinct pleasure to eat with our guides and tribal hosts and learn a ton about their lives, culture, and traditions.

The amount of hiking was just right, considering that the trails were pretty rough (a guide is an absolute must), and the bamboo rafting afterwards was such a delightful and unique way to get out of the mountains. Song, Dong, and Rudy were an effervescent troupe that made us feel welcome in their company.

We visited a waterfall and fed and bathed elephants, but these activities were definitely secondary to the trekking and bamboo rafting. That being said, the whole experience was great value and we will definitely arrange another trip with them in the future if we return to Chiang Mai.

I strongly recommend anyone looking to get out of the city and into the beautiful nature of northern Thailand to work with Chiang Mai Trekking to make your trip a delight.

Chiang Mai Trekking with Piroon was one of the most memorable experiences of my
life. If you have any desire to see what Thailand really has to offer, you must experience this! I participated in trekking with Piroon in January 2020 with some of my friends, and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. We began by hiking a few miles through the jungles of Chiang Mai (which I admit was a bit of a workout) and then arrived in a small village where we were instantly greeted by many friendly locals (dogs and humans alike). I felt truly immersed in Thai culture while there, as we ate food cooked by the locals and were truly disconnected from society. Throughout the course of the day we were able to interact with people in the village and see what it was like to live somewhat isolated from civilization. I saw a variety of animals near the village, some of which include elephants, pigs, cows, dogs, and chickens. At night, we were served outstanding food and then led to a huge bonfire where the locals taught us some of their traditions and dances. We then lit sky lanterns and watched them fly away under some of the clearest stars I had ever seen in my life. Our guides were very personable and incredibly friendly to talk to and interact with. I definitely recommend Chiang Mai Trekking with Piroon if you have any interest in fully immersing yourself in a culture you may not already be familiar with!

We were fortunate to come accross Trekking with Piroon after several failed attempts with other agencies. They responded fast and with a lot to offer, so instead of originally planned one-day tour, we ended up booking four days of tours, including bamboo rafting, hiking, elephants, city tours and sunset and sunrise in Phu Chi Fa. The best part is that Piroon, a man of few words yet with great skills that will come in handy when in the jungle, together with his team, are super flexible to tailor any tour to your own interests and likings. But none of this would be complete without our loyal companion and guide Tom, who has made all the difference. Not only is his English perfect, but he is also very knowledgable about the history of sites and landmarks. He will spice up your experience with his tricks and knowledge of great local food places, and even a simple stop at petrol station with Tom turns into a learning experince. Tom also was of great assistance for whatever else we needed, planning ahead to make sure everything is in order and helping out even beyond his duty of a tourist guide. All in all, these guys made our experience of the North all worthwile.

I cannot recommend Chiang Mai Trekking enough!! The experience I had with them is a memory that I will never forget. The trekking guides met my friends and I at the hotel we were staying in and we drove to the trek site in a converted bed of a truck. The hour and a half that we drove from Chiang Mai to the start of the trek was an experience itself! To get to the start of the trekking site, we had to drive up winding roads throughout the mountains. We drove pretty slowly and since the back of the truck was open, we got to experience some pretty amazing views of the mountains. Prior to the start of the hike, we visited a waterfall where we got to swim, which was really beautiful and refreshing. We were then driven to a home where we were fed homemade Thai food, which was amazing (throughout the entire trip they feed you so much delicious food!!!). There are outlets there that work well so there are opportunities to charge your phone. After we ate and drank lots of water, we were driven up the road to the start of the hike. The hike is hard but quick. The trek guides stayed right next to us and they are all super experienced, so I felt safe the entire time. Once we got to the Thai village, my group was brought to our assigned cabin. The cabins are covered but they are virtually outdoors. They provide mosquito nets, mattresses, and blankets, but if you are hiking in the winter, make sure to bring very warm clothes to sleep in! While it is warm during the day in the winter months in Thailand, it can drop to about 50 degrees Fahrenheit at night. The sleeping and bathing arrangements are far from glamorous, but it makes for a fun experience with your friends! Outside of our cabin was a kitchen and sitting area where we were fed more delicious Thai food and beer before heading to bed for the night.
The next morning, we were greeted with coffee and more delicious food. We then packed our stuff up and headed down to the river that ran through the village. We got on bamboo rafts —which we watched them make while we ate breakfast —and floated down the river for two hours until we returned to the house that we first ate at the day before. We were provided with another meal at the house (I cannot stress this enough—you will not go hungry on this trip). We got back into the converted truck beds and headed to an elephant sanctuary for about an hour before driving back to Chiang Mai.
The trip was incredibly organized and ran without any issues at all. You can tell this company has been running these treks for years. I cannot recommend Chiang Mai Trekking enough. If you ever find yourself in Chiang Mai, you must make time to go on a trek and spend a night in the Thai village, you will be so glad that you did.

The Trekking with Piroon is one of the most incredible experiences that I have ever had! The Thai guides first took us to an amazing waterfall where my friends and I were able to swim and take in the natural beauty of Thailand. Make sure to bring a change of clothes, so you aren’t soaking wet for the hike. We then embarked on a 3ish hour hike into the mountains. The hike was challenging in the ascension portion, but the views were amazing once we reached the top. The guides were very personable with us as we zig-zagged through the mountain range, telling us jokes and a lot about themselves. The hike ended when we reached the village that we would spend the night in. We were greeted by the residents of the village, as well as the many animals that were wandering around freely. It was really cool that I could just walk up to the cows, pigs, dogs, and chickens and say hello. That evening, we participated in a traditional dance around a campfire, as well as light floating lamps and watch them fly away for the lunar new year. These two things, as well as seeing the stars shine the brightest I have ever seen, are activities that you 100% need to do. My friends and I stayed the night in the wooden houses that definitely completed the cultural experience. The following day, after waking up to roosters crowing, we paddled on homemade bamboo rafts down the river, back to near where our hike began. We were treated with feeding elephants and getting up-close and personal with them! You probably couldn’t get closer anywhere else. The food that they served to us over the two days was delicious Thai food cooked by the locals. It doesn’t get more authentic than that. If you want an incredible cultural experience, you should definitely do Trekking with Piroon!

An unforgettable experience. We did a 3 day 2 night tour and felt that it was very professionally run and great value.

We met the day before the tour and everything was explained in detail to us. On the day of the tour we were picked up promptly from our hotel. There was a bit of confusion about other pick ups but by 9.30 we were on the road. The group was 12 people (we liked having a bigger group - more fun and inexpensive - but you may want to confirm number of guests in advance as they were a bit wooly on this).

We took an open backed truck out to a local market then on to the start point of the walk. Some people may not love the truck as its not the safest and open to elements but we thought it felt fun and adventurous.

The walk was spectacular through the lush rainforest and our guide Sombat was fantastic at telling us information and was actually from the first hill village and knew about all the traditions and ways of life as well as some history. We all stayed in an elevated hut with amazing views to far away mountains and over the forest below. The food was basic but good and the pineapple - Ive never had it so sweet!

The next day we walked along more rainforest paths and had lunch and a swim in the river at another village amongst the water buffalo which was awesome. We reached the second nights stop an elevated wooden house right next to the river. A really special location. We had a fire played some cards with the group and Sombat made sticky rice the traditional way. What a treat and an honour.

On the third day we took bamboo rafts down the rover which was great fun and the guides were clearly very experienced. An amazing time floating down river.

The only reason we are not giving a 5 star review is that we were not sure about the elephant set up and decided to go for coffee instead when we saw it. Without wanting to be sanctimonious I just think this tour doesn’t need to include any elephants which can potentially be perpetuating ills against these wonderful creatures. Trekking with Piroon clearly know its an issue people are concerned about and sent me a PDF in advance when asked with information about how the elephants are well treated and I guess it’s all relative (I am sure they are treated better than years ago) but at the end of the day there are still elephants being lined up for tourists to look at. Hopefully if enough guests decline to partake it will be taken out of the programme.

A final note. Water is not included (only 1 litre at the beginning) so take money for water and other drinks along the way as they are sold at the guest houses. Some of the others on the tour hadn’t bought much money as hadn’t realised this.

Amazing two days in the mountains of northern Thailand! Would 100% recommend this experience, it’s quite different to most tourist experiences, it’s quite off track and strenuous but the best way to experience the landscape. The first day is a quite intense hike but all worth it for the overnight stay in the midst of the jungle, day 2 is very fun rafting down the river and seeing the elephants. Song our tour guide was so great, he shared a lot of his life story growing up in a mountain tribe whilst also being very fun and making us all laugh. Honestly had a great time, met lovely people and also saw some of the most amazing landscapes ever ! Only thing would definitely recommend packing waterproof/ warm clothes, I did this experience during the monsoon season and didn’t really have appropriate clothes & shoes.

We did the 3 days/2 nights group trekking in the jungle and it was a truly Unique experience. The tour is very diverse and offers a bit of everything (hiking, rafting , waterfall,…). We stayed 1 night at the Karen tribe and 1 night at the Lahu hill tribe.
Dont expect a four star hotel but everything is available for a comfortable stay (matrasses, mosquito Nets , they even Made a bamboo shower especially for the Guests)

You don t have much interaction with the local people but this is more than compensated by their hospitality and all the information and care Provided by our Guide Bat, Who grew up in the Karen village. He answered to all our questions - even the difficult ones-, united us as a family with his positive mindset and humor and gave us
An inside at what Hill tribe life used to be and how it evolved to today.

These people just really are super humans, who live in Harmony with the surrounding nature and do everything in their power to make it as easy as possible for us. It is stil a nature trip and Some things can go wrong (e.g it was sometimes really slippery because of the Rain and one bamboo raft tipped into the water due to the strong current) but That is wat makes the experience truly Unique and the guide and local people are always there to help you and come with a solution. They Carry your bag when necessary, make and provide walking sticks, jump into the river, fix the bamboo raft, make dinner and much much more! AND EVERTHING WITH A SMILE (and a good sense of humor)

Lastly i want to give kudo’s to the organisation itself. They give a lot back to the community and are fair organisation, witnessing their pricing policy (it Gets cheaper the larger the group). We paid 3500 bath for three days , Which is in my opinion really cheap compared to many other activities in Thailand and taking into account how many people are actually involved during the tour.

so in conclusion, if you want a Trully Unique experience with a touch of how local Hill tribe life looks like chiang mai trekking is the place to go!

We learnt about Chiang Mai Trekking with Piroon from other travellers. We booked 3 day trekking trip, also booked provided here accommodation with Baan Nantaya Guesthouse for 4 nights when visiting sites around Chiang Mai. The owners, Jit & Piroon are very friendly and professional. The accommodation has very competitive price, delicious and big breakfast included, and it is located by Chiang Mai South Gate, old city, and walking distance to all downtown attractions. The trekking trip was a great experience: well organized, with knowledgeable and friendly guides, delicious authentic Thai food. It was nice to visit villages of Karen and Lahu People, experience local People's life. Rafting on Mae Tang River was great. I highly recommend the Chiang Mai Trekking By Piroon for trips and accommodation services. Remember to contact them directly, not by 3rd party agents ( hotel, travel agency etc.). Special thank you to our guide Tim. Aga
