About
A family-run home cooking class established in 2001. We began with a small class size. Even though our business has seen tremendous growth, we have decided that this size maintains the personalization and individual attention that each student deserves. Yui (Siripen Sriyabhaya), Thailand's international TV chef still teaches every dish in every class to guarantee the highest quality of instruction. Her expertise attracts a variety of students such as, TV chefs, executive chefs, culinary school teachers, international Thai cooking instructors, food columnists, cookbook authors, tourists, and food lovers.Yui's unique blend of art and science truly make cooking exciting, fun, and easy to follow. When students cook these delicious dishes in class, they are equipped with the skills and knowledge to be able to recreate these dishes at home.

This is more than a cooking class. Much more. Through her meticulous instructions on the preparation of three dishes Yui not only imparted her in-depth knowledge of flavors, the use of the various ingredients, cooking techniques and balance but also Thai culture and her philosophy of respect and balance.A few minutes with her and you quickly appreciate what a special person she is. A chef who has not abandoned her heritage and her beliefs rather a genuine person who has integrated them into her passion for wholesome, fresh food. An admirable, unique person and talent. And we learned a lot while cooking delicious dishes. If you are reading reviews to determine what cooking class to avail yourself to while in Chiang Mai, look no further. This is the one. We paid for a quick cooking class and walked away richer from the experience.

I think it’s my 3rd or possibly 4th time here over the last 15 years. There are many cooking classes in Chiang Mai, so why come back to this one? The food is fabulous, the setting lovely, quality of ingredients and care for every single details is top notch. But what makes this stand apart from any others is Yui who runs it with her husband Kwan.
There is no better place to learn how to make with ease some iconic Thai dishes. But this is the ONLY place where you also get invaluable understanding of the chemistry and physics of cooking, philosophy of life, and dozens of cooking tips which carry over beyond Thai cuisine. All this while having fun.

Of all the amazing things Thailand has to offer, my husband and I could not have guessed that a cooking class would be our favorite part of our 13 day trip. Yui is a true chef and scientist, and her teaching is a gift. The pad Thai we made was only second to her own pad Thai in our journey throughout Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket. We are by no means experienced cooks, but she has a way of teaching that is easy to understand and sticks! We bought a wok as soon as we got home and made pad Thai for our friend, who wanted seconds and to learn herself. Thank you, Yui, for sharing your expertise! To any future travelers who take the class, come hungry!

We attended the cooking class today with our three boys, ages 20,19 and 14. We were picked up by Yui’s husband at our hotel and dropped off there at the end also. Yui’s infectious personality adds to the experience. She taught us new techniques and we can’t wait to use what we learned back home in NY!

As someone who works in the tourism industry, I am always very skeptical of any activity with nearly 100% perfect reviews, but this was the real deal! Yui is not just an instructor, she is like a food guru or a food whisperer. We learned about Thai culture, food culture, Yui's very interesting life, and of course how to make very delicious food! Yui is so quirky, she kind of reminds me of Amelie and she is full of fun anecdotes. The pad thai and red curry we made were better than any other that we had in any restaurant and our tour of the market was a great opportunity to see a non-touristy market for once. This was by far our most favorite activity we did in Thailand and we would absolutely do another class with her! Skip the massage, elephant farm, and ziplining, this is the authentic Thai experience that you are looking for!

My boyfriend and I were lucky enough to spend the morning with Yui and we learned so much about Thai food, the way ingredients work together and how she found her love for food and eating! She was so friendly and accommodating (I’m vegetarian and my partner and I like different spice levels!). The food was delicious and easy to make with her expert guidance- you can totally see why Gordon Ramsay was so interested in her recipes!
Can not recommend this enough as it was such a great experience, the food was amazing and five courses had us spoiled for variety plus a visit to the local market was so interesting! Felt like a once in a lifetime experience and with practically a Michelin starred chef!

We had the great fortune of spending a day with Yui on our recent visit to Chiang Mai. Kwan picked us up at our guest house right on time at 9:30 am. We traveled to their family home and got prepped while waiting a few moments for Yui to return from school drop off.
We began the class as soon as she arrived, as most of the prep work had been done ahead of time. Each of us had a propane burner and wok. Yui explained her philosophy of cooking in the traditional style, creating dishes that would honor the taste from "grandma's kitchen." She emphasized the quality of the ingredients, and the timing and balance of the different flavor profiles (sweet, salty, sour...) based on the history of the dish. She also readily accommodated our classmate's preference for no meat products (request at time of booking). One by one she showed us how to prep the ingredients for cooking and for garnish.
She carefully explained all of the ingredients and how to shop for them, including finding substitute ingredients abroad. This lesson was continued after the class was done when we visited a neighborhood farmers market and walked the aisles discussing what we learned.
We made mango sticky rice, pad thai, tom yun soup with clear stock, and our choice of green or red curry. My wife drank water, but I took Yui up on the offer of a cold beer from their fridge.
Yui is warm, engaging, smart and charming. Her English skills are very good and she was always very easy to understand. Her well-designed cookbook was provided to us as part of the class and we look forward to exploring more of her recipes now that we've returned home!

A friend and I took this cooking class and it was one of the best experiences we’ve had in Thailand.
Yui is incredibly knowledgeable, warm and friendly. We crafted three dishes, Pad See Ew, Som-Tom Papaya Salad, and Kao-Soy, true authentic thai food, all incredibly delicious.
The environment, Yui’s home, Is clean, bright, cozy, and filled with a jungle of beautiful plants.
After cooking and a whole lot of eating, Yui took us to her favorite market and showed us how to shop for the right ingredients. This was a true, Thai market with many delicacies.
If you want a true home cooking experience in Thailand, A Lot of Thia is definitely the way to go. A true, wholesome and tasty experience.

I have been trying to get in touch with Yui via the email listed on the school's website. I have sent 3 emails but have not yet heard back (checked Spam, too)-has anyone else had trouble getting ahold of them to make a reservation? Any tips?

TA won't let me post the email address I used but I imagine it's the same one that's on the website. I wonder if Yui's out of town or something. It's worth being persistent if you have the time. It's a fabulous class!

We are looking at traveling here in Dec. We will have our 4 children ages 7, 7, 9 & 12. Do you think the 1/2 class would be ok for them?
Thank you!

Yui is very accommodating to different needs. As the others have said I would email and ask for for specifics such as having most of the ingredients precut if you want for the younger ones (most of the ingredients are already, not much cutting neccessary). I think the half day would be a good length to keep the kids attention. You watch Yui demonstrate the dish then go to your station where everything is waiting and prepare yourself with her watching over. Then everyone goes to the table to eat. And repeat for each meal. So you do get breaks from the actual cooking. If it helps the kids focus you could have them write down the steps in notebooks while she is demonstrating. I forgot most steps as soon as it was my turn to cook and wish I had written notes like some people in my class. Tons of fun!

I visited their website and make a reservation on-line.
One day after, I got an email mentioning deposit is necessary (1000/person) in order to hold a space.
I’d like to know if anyone experienced this?
Since international transaction fee involved, I just would like to handle this carefully.
Thank you in advance for sharing your experience.
Cheers,
Lyra

Hello,
We would love to take a half day course. we are two adults and 3 cooking-loving teens.
Is it suitable for young ones?
our first Language is not English, though i speak it fluently. Will it be ok if I translate your English to them simultaniously?

Yui was excellent with our 11 year old child, who had limited cooking skills and experience. I don't think language will be an issue as long as you can translate the basic requirements, as Yui gives a practical demonstration on how to cook each dish. I do think the half day option is a good choice for your situation, as the full day may be a little long from our experience.

I have heard a deposit needs to be made to confirm the reservation. Do you accept paypal? If so, do you pay the fees associated with a paypal transaction?

hi I am booked at the Baan Ngern Village hotel in Chiang Mai. Are you close to the hotel? How much does it cost for a 1 day cooking school? You have some good reviews on line. Thanks
