Wonderful experience. Boom is an excellent, patient, special teacher. She does beautiful work and I learned a great deal. I highly recommend this experience. She makes the fruit and vegetable carving a fun craft to learn and shows how to make beautiful carvings and arrangements. I plan to practice and take another class from her when I return to Thailand.

I signed up for the full-day course and enjoyed every minute of it! Boom is an excellent teacher, great at explaining and very flexible in accommodating her student's skill-level and area of interest. The class is called 'fruit-carving' but it includes vegetables such as carrots and cucumbers as well.

Transportation to and from class was included as was a nice carving-knife to practice my newly acquired skill.

Great place to learn Fruit / Vegetable carving used in Royal Thai cuisine. Fun activity for those who enjoy thai cooking classes. I have little artistic talent and was surprised what I could carve within a few hours.

Boom is a good patient instructor who speaks fluent english and provides clear instruction. Most impressively, she's completely self taught.

Easy to find location on the northeast side of the moat.

Yesterday I had a blast learning fruit and vegetable carving from my lovely teacher named Boom. I was amazed how much she was able to teach me in 3 hours. I had never carved anything before but Boom's patience and encouragement built my confidence. I also liked that Boom's air conditioned location was very convenient and her husband picked me up from my hotel and dropped me off afterwards. Keep in mind that you'll probably sit on a short stool during class so if you have back problems, you may need a Thai massage afterwards to recover.

It was a great afternoon! We learned the basics of fruit carving and really enjoyed the course. Boom is a wonderful teacher, patient & motivating. She speaks very good english and could explain step by step. Do it! Try it! Enjoy it! We will practice fruit carving at home and impress the guests at our next party :)

Great class for those wishing to learn about Thai fruit and vegetable carving. Boom is a fantastic teacher, super patient and caters the class to what you are looking to learn and to your ability level. She speaks fluent English and is able to explain things clearly.

Also as of Feb 2015, there was really no other option to do a half or full day of carving lessons. The only other class I found was a cooking class that did 1 hour of carving.

Highly recommend!

I spent the morning with Boom today at her fruit carving class and it was absolutely awesome!

She provides hands-on 1-to-1 help and starts off teaching the basics: how to use the knife and cut basic shapes, by the end of the class you will have produced a full platter of carved fruit with is seriously impressive. I learnt so much in such a short space of time.

Boom is really friendly and speaks great English, I had lots of fun chatting to her throughout the morning while we worked and she gave me lots of tips on things to do in Chiang Mai and even taught me how to speak some Thai :-)

She even picked me up from my apartment too!

If you're visiting Chiang Mai then I'd highly recommend taking one of Booms classes!

The experience was absolutely worth the price.

Before my 3 hour course with Boom I had no carving experience. Within a really short time I learnt how to make leaves and flowers from carrots, cucumbers, radish and tomatoes. In addition we carved a flower bouquet into a watermelon.

Boom's english is very good and she is a great and patient teacher. The price includes a very useful carving knife that you can take home.

I already learned to carve fruit in the USA, but when I came to Thailand on a study abroad program with college, one of my goals was to learn actual Thai style fruit carving in Thailand. I saw the great ratings on TA about Aajaan (that's Thai for "Teacher") Boom's carving lessons, and how fluent in English she was, I decided to contact her by email to see if she had any openings to teach an intermediate fruit carver. She was afraid I was too advanced, but after agreeing to a trial lesson, I felt that she was a wonderful teacher and signed up for an all day private lesson (2 x 3 hr sessions) and I was so happy with the first day that I signed up for a second day. She was able to show me many new techniques, and is a skilled carver and patient teacher. She even went so far as to research some new techniques and was able to teach me those as well. It was very helpful to have her available to ask for advice on how to perform some of the trickier designs. She teaches carving only as a side line to her travel tour business, but she does a very good job! I highly recommend her classes!

After going back and forward over whether to take a half or full day of instruction my wife and I decided on a full day. I'm glad we did! We had a wonderful time learning the intricacies of carving from Boom. She is an outstanding instructor. Extremely patient with novices and clear with all explanations. I really couldn't believe how much we managed to learn. It really is a complete immersion with no hanging around a classroom listening to theories. Rather within minutes of arrival you have a knife in your hand and are whittling away. Very nice escape from the temples and street scene in Chiang Mai that is made even better by having such a lovely teacher. Couldn't recommend highly enough. If you are on the fence, just do it!
