Skip the blockbusters at the cineplex. DAA has feature films Monday nights and documentaries Thursday nights. Schedule on website. 60 baht entry; 20 baht soft drinks; 80 baht beer or wine; free popcorn... and friendly people.

Always a good photo exhibit inside. Lots of books to look over in their library. Often have very good seminars, too! I live in Chiang Mai and enjoy stopping by now and then.

This gallery, situated in a peaceful soi off Wualai Road just outside the inner city of Chiang Mai, exhibited black-and white photos of a Korean photographer on the Kopino in the Philippines. We learnt a lot.
Upstairs they have a library. As a member you can use this library, also borrow DvDs.
They have regular film screenings. See on their website.

Affordable film showing events are organised every Monday and Thursday evenings plus occasional weekend viewings of quality films you won't see in big mall movie houses. Free popcorn but you pay for drinks. Sometimes the air-conditioned viewing room has mosquitoes so bring insect repellent. A must visit for film buffs.

I volunteered for about six months as the Center Coordinator of DAA, and I miss it a lot. The organization does a ton of great work in the community, and it's unfortunate how few people see it on a regular basis. DAA offers monthly documentary photography exhibitions by some of the top photographers and photojournalists in Asia, documentary and foreign film screenings twice a week in their theater, workshops on photography, film, and NGO work, and frequent informational events, parties, information sessions, and fundraisers for other local organizations. With the exception of workshops, all of these things take place on a donation basis. It is a great place to meet people, be exposed to different topics, and learn new skills.

So I went here today...NOT! I tried at least but because their website and google show this place being some place they clearly are not I was just wandering up and down this street with my girlfriend for 30 minutes cursing to myself under my breath. You figure updating your status on the internet might be the first thing you do? Maybe they sent a guy out in a truck with a megaphone to alert people that they closed the location???

Heard great things about this place and when I found it, a nice young lady who was busy packing up there said it was being relocated in the old city - check the internet site. This I have done and nothing seem's to have been updated since mid April. No mention of a new venue or what's going on. Let's hope they get it together!

A very well informed library of documentaries and we definitely loved the free day projections. A must see in Chiang Mai.

Good Map and written address on the site under contact ( sorry they wont let me post URLs here.
Conveniently located just 5 minutes walking from Airport Plaza. Take Hang Dong rd south 400m and make a left on Soi 4. Follow the red DAA signs!
thanks!
