Mekong Catfish Mayhem

What can I say, I love fishing! The chance to catch a dozen or more big Mekong catfish was too good to pass up. Guide Mio picked us up at our hotel and drove us to the Bosang fishing lake. It's an artificial lake stocked with a lot of hungry fish. Hundreds were gulping air at the surface when we got there about 9:00 AM.

I fished, my wife took pictures. My first fish hit about 5 minutes in and from then on the action never really stopped. The provided tackle was spinning rods with good sized reels, a little worse for wear but more than adequate for the job. Terminal gear was a swivel above a weight cage and a short-shanked hook on a 10" leader. Mio wadded bread mixed with other ingredients into the cage and put more on the hook. You cast out and let the bait sit on the bottom with the reel drag set wide open. Fish pick up the bait and run with it. Striking involves tightening the drag before lifting the rod to set the hook. Most hookups were solid but the occasional fish did get off.

I got about 20 fish with 8 or so in the 50-60 lb range. Those put up strong fights with good runs interspersed with bulldog pulls. I was worn out by the end of the day!

The lake is pleasant and there are sun shelters with benches. We didn't use the benches much because we were too busy playing fish but the shade was welcomed.

I had a blast. I'd do it again in a minute. But first my sore arms need to rest.

Mio was a great guide. Helpful, funny, and very knowledgeable. He made sure dietary requirements were met at lunch. Very pleased with the guide service.

Great day of fishing

My wife and I have been living overseas and the fishing hasn't been that great. We decided we needed to scratch that itch and it was well worth it. Yes, it is a stocked pond but the action from catching these giant catfish was well worth it. I definitely highly recommend it. We did the half day and are arms and back were exhausted.

A Great Experience Fishing in Chiang Mai

The best experience in Chiang Mai. We really couldn't recommend it enough. We did the 2 lake experience, firstly for Mekong Catfish which was incredible. The second lake had more variety but was more of a challenge to catch. Mio was our Guide and he was amazing from start to finish, really helpful considering we haven't ever properly fished before. A genuinely lovely guy and even dropped us at the airport at the end. I would certainly do this again. Across the full day we caught approx 30 fish between the 2 of us. thanks again!

Truly unforgettable experience

This was the very first thing we booked when we bought our tickets to Thailand. We have fished with guides throughout the world but didn't know much about the fishing in Thailand. We started our day with Ef fishing for Mekong Giant Catfish and it wasn't a minute before we were reeling fish in. It was an action packed. The lunch at the fishing park was delicious and we headed off with Mr. Suvit with his boat in tow for the afternoon fishing in a reservoir for Giant Snakehead Fish. We were told this was not a guaranteed catch. We initially were a little concerned about the heat and lack of cover but the views of the lush mountains and water buffalo quickly distracted us. It then proceeded to rain and it was an absolute dream. The steam and low clouds covering the forest was out a picture. We could have caught no fish that afternoon and the boat ride and the calming demeanor of our captain would have been a treat, but we did catch a few Giant Snakehead Fish and it was thrilling. It was an incredible day and has been the highlight of our trip!

Great fishing day!

Good God! Be ready to fight HUGE Mekong catfish. It took me about 15 minutes to land a 25 kilo beast, and that was along with about a dozen others in three hours, ranging from 5 to 20 kilos. Exhausting and great fun!!! Great value.

If you want Mekong, join this tour.

Mio and Suvit are very professional and taking good care of their clients. If you want to catch a Mekong Catfish, this is the tour to join. I joined the Mekong and vary species combo and caught a lot of fishes. Especially with Mekong, it was non stop action and I actually got really tired after catching 10+ Mekong in half day lol

Worth every penny

Big Game Fishing Adventure deserves five stars! Instructors Ef and Mio were extremely helpful and positive, making us feel comfortable throughout the fishing experience. The pond is well-maintained, teeming with fish, and the staff professionally trained us, helping us fish despite our lack of skills. It's a beautiful place close to nature, creating a family atmosphere, and the food also deserves praise. An ideal experience for fishing enthusiasts!

The fishing was great, but they charge a crazy amount. You can do the exact same thing by going on your own to the same lake, Bo Sang Lake (google it) and pay 350 baht for the rod and bait, instead of the 1600 baht...

( The right one is 500 baht for 8 am.-1 pm. and 395 baht from 1.30 pm. - 6 pm. with 2,000 baht deposit, The deposit will not be refunded under case of damaged or lost ) is fishing fee for renting a rod with some free baits. This price for people who go to the lake by themselves and fishing by themselves The price from my service 1,600 baht ( which was the program you book ) is a package of fishing service which includes: - Round trip transport ( pick up and drop off from client’s hotel in town ) - Fishing gears with unlimited baiting and guaranteed catching “ No fish…Money back “ - English speaking professional fishing instructor - Non extra charge for damage or lost of fishing gears Best regards suvit

Great day out

My partner loves fishing so he was really keen to do this trip, it's no my thing at all but It was only fair given that he got involved in all the activities u chose.
Was really impressed such a good day out we o my did a half day as I didn't think I would hack a full day by the time it was over I wanted to stay longer!
I didn't fish my self as it was 1900 beat each and I can't fish! but we were with Great group and it was exciting to watch and get involved with netting and taking the pics.

Lots of reviews moan and say that the tour guides do all the work for you but if you get involved your self they don't stop you they let you get on with it so I wouldn't pay attention to this my partner is very experienced but he was keen to listen to see how they fish different and then got on with it.

I would definitely do this trip again and I would fish myself

Great Day for anyone interested in fishing! Great to watch too!

Booked Half day trip through our Guest House. Booked this trip at 23:30 if not later for the next day!! Prompt pick up at around 08:00 with a short journey to the lake. Very welcoming staff and family run! After a quick demo and bait up, we were in! at times over 30 minutes to play the fish! In the beating heat this is tiring, yet so much fun! Met some great people on this trip which we are still in contact with! Enjoyed a nice cold beer whilst fishing, which can be bought at their shop! Was delivered by a young woman on a push bike. Ask your guide to cast in the centre of the lake! Thats where the monsters are :) Would well recommend this trip! If you've only ever fished in the UK in Carp lakes and have never caught anything worth shouting about, this is for you! A great day! The weather was superb.
