Spa Day Experience
4.0 of 5 bubbles
This review is for the spa only, as I live nearby and thus did not stay at the hotel. I pre-booked a massage as well as day-use of the hydrotherapy pool/onsen/etc. and overall had a great experience. The online booking process was a little bit confusing initially but a kind staff person was able to answer my questions by email. Upon arrival at the spa I was greeted by two staff members and after a welcome drink and cold towel was shown to the women's changing room to change into my swimsuit for the hydrotherapy pool. Note that they do offer swimsuits for use if you need it. Each locker contains one, as well as a towel, robe, comb, etc. After a quick shower (required for entry into the pool), I was escorted through the hydrotherapy pool experience by a kind attendant who explained what to expect for each station of the pool. There are 7 stations in total, and each one features spa jets that massage either your feet, back, shoulders, etc. It's a calming experience just to relax in the water, especially as we are now in Chiang Mai's hot, dry, dusty/smoggy season. The only thing I would change is that the spa had kept its wall-to-wall doors to the outside open, which let the bad air in, but since it wasn't affecting how I felt I didn't ask them to close them. After the hydrotherapy pool is the outdoor onsen, which again would be a nicer experience on a day with better air quality. Following time in the onsen (about 30 mins), I spent 30 minutes in the steam room which is located within the changing room. The steam room was especially helpful in for detoxing from the current air pollution. I felt so much better after my time in it. Throughout my stay, no one else was there so I had a lot of quiet time to myself, which aided in the experience. In total with the hydrotherapy pool, onsen, and steam room I spent about 1.5 hours. For a message, I chose the Elements of Life (Himalayan) option. The massage takes place on a warm sand bed covered with towels, which is a really wonderful feel (like lying on the warm beach after a swim in the sea.) The therapist used a hot compress to massage my body, which would be wonderful except that there were several instances where the compress was too hot and left on one part of my body for too long, which burned to the point of making me jump from the pain. I told the therapist that it was too hot but it still happened from time to time during the rest of the massage. About halfway through, the therapist played several Tibetan singing bowls in the room near various parts of my body (down at my feet, over my head, over my abdomen, etc.), which was a beautiful and deeply calming experience. I would say this was the highlight of the massage. Otherwise, the feel of the massage was a bit too rough for my liking--not in terms of depth of pressure but in feeling like you are being jostled around a lot and the therapist's movements felt rushed, or a bit sloppy. If it was a matter of the pressure being too deep I would have asked for softer pressure but I found it hard to ask for anything different because it just felt like she has a rough approach to massage. For example, accidentally pulled my hair too hard a couple of times while vigorously massaging my scalp, rubbing my temples to the point of discomfort, yanking me into certain positions, etc. I will add that I'm also a bit sensitive and do much better with therapists who take a gentler approach, but I've had great deep tissue massages from therapists who move slowly and don't incorporate jerking, rough movements. In chatting with my therapist after the massage I found her to be a friendly and sweet person and would say my experience shouldn't reflect on her kindness, but perhaps just shows a lack of experience in massage itself. For what you pay at Rarinjinda, I would however expect all therapists to be of a higher level of experience. After the massage, my therapist brought me to a lounge area and offered me tea, mango sticky rice, and a plate of fresh-cut fruit. Overall, I like the facilities of Rarinjinda a lot, was taken well care of by the attendant at the hydrotherapy pool, and appreciate the general attention to detail that the spa seems to embrace. I will definitely go back for the pool/onsen/steam, but may take better care in describing the kind of massage I'm interested in if booking another massage in the future (to clear up any doubts about whether or not it will be comfortable.) Thank you Rarinjinda for a nice birthday afternoon at the spa, and I hope that my feedback is helpful for you!

Spa lovers, there are better places than this. I'd rate Cheeva and Kiyora way above this (and cheaper!) before I come here if ever again.

It's not bad and since it is located inside a hotel, you have somewhat of a quality guarantee. But the spa doesn't have "spirit" - the venue is nice and the room ok (but not extravagant, and definitely not 5 star), but that's pretty much it...the ladies were friendly enough, but - The massage was very mediocre. Wasn't really relaxing and didn't have the right touch. It was super expensive too, 4000 plus Baht pp, because there's service and tax on top of their advertised prices (which is unusual for Chiang Mai.) I wouldn't return. many better places in Chiang Mai .

One of the best spa experiences I had in changmai, the spa bed was warm with heat and offers free shower before spa and free hotel pickup.

We went for a Traditional Thai massage. They offered free transportation to and from our hotel. The spa is nicely decorated. The therapists were very good and we had a wonderful massage. It's relatively expensive, but we thought it's worth it.

We enjoyed our stay in a pool access room here...it is clean and staff friendly. Great location ( we spent three nights prior in old Chiangmai and was great, but glad we tried a second location as we saw more) and very easy to get to night bizarre, resturant is very good and breakfast was great with good service and great coffee.
However, I wouldn't say they are five star as advertised also don't be sucked Into a second indoor pool as you have to pay (around $50 for 40 mins) this was disappointing as we beloved it was two pools also the outside one is not as big as it seems in pictures nor as pristine with broken tiles etc!!!!!
Room we had (107) was spacious, clean and well serviced with a very comfy bed and quiet, except when kids where in the pool early making lots of noise!!!! Quiet reading room was good but don't hope for an early check in as they will charge you.....
Day spa massages are very very good, professional and clean. Don't be sucked in to the 'Indian specialist aura reading' doctor, he just there on a computer to talk u into expensive day treatments. Get the traditional Thai massage and u will be happy.
All in all, good hotel, a little overpriced for what it is but is an enjoyable stay in a good location and resturant.

We stumbled across this spa resort, went in, chatted with a staff about pricing and reservation. The price of spa was on the higher end price, the resort from the outside looked good.

We weren't ready atm to have receive the treatment, but we were told that we could make reservation 2 hours prior we would like to have the spa. The staff actually kept pressuring us to pay deposits to "guarantee" a spot when we just arrived CM. But we decided to save the better spa until the day we leave.

About 4 days later, we planned to have our last day to enjoy the spa before we leave, and the night before, I went on the website only to find out that we could have 20% off discount, but this information was not told, even when the staff kept pressuring us to pay the deposit when we said we would like it a few days later, he failed to mention this promotion which is sneaky and insincere for a business to do so.

Anyhow, I emailed them and requesting reservation the night before, and also mentioned about the 20% off discount whether we could get it or not. The staff called "Loralie" replied, basically refused the 20% off discount and stated that we had to book through their "online system" and basically tell us to go online to make a reservation 3 days prior, when she could have just told me whether they will have rooms available, what an idiotic gesture.

Worst of all, i told her that we were told that we could book 2 hours before, why 3 days now. All she cared is that to restated the need to book through online, again, is it necessary?!?!? And I was told by the male front staff on the first day that only calling is necessary 2 hours prior.

And the 3rd email Loraile replied is just further stating how they require booking online as a policy, very conveniently stated which I do not buy. I told them it is no longer necessary, I had to re-make my plans again, and I told them I would leave a review accordingly, had she been more apologetic, I would not have left one star, but even if I told her that I would write a review on such terrible service, she cared less to do anything, I had no problem giving one star.

There are a lot more great spa in CM, no need to make yourself suffer

The furniture is using cheap materials and fixture in the bathroom was not improperly installed and had water smell. The checkin and out was way too slow, and need to exam the room again. A morning call was mistakenly to my room at 7 am!? Too many Chinese guests with bad habits like hanging underwear in their balcony and too noisy. Overall it was not relaxing at all. I definitely will not come back.

We went for a 2 hour Traditional Thai Massage for about 2300 Baht and we did not regret the expense. Thai Massage is mostly pressure and stretching without any oil used so it refreshes tired muscles. For an extra charge, you can also avail of shower facilities. A good break from trekking and touring! Highly recommended.

I had a room on the 1st floor by the pool. It was so nice to be able to sit out there at the end of the day and read my book and take a dip. The water is a bit cool, but it's so relaxing. The room was beautiful and the bed comfortable. Water is provided each day complimentary. The staff went above and beyond when they presented me with a birthday dessert when I arrived. All the staff were so nice, including the guards at the front that stopped traffic for you when you walked across the street to the restaurant for the complimentary breakfast buffet with made to order omelettes. Great free breakfast! With a table right on the river.

I had a pair of pants that I had brought with me new the needed hemming and the desk staff sent them out for me. $20 Baht to hem pants! Wow!

The concierge staff were excellent, providing rides to the zip lining or other excursions

I would definitely return.

Had a good massage but somewhat too pricey for the service. Could have similar experience at a slightly lower price. Oh well, I could have walked out...(if not for others in the group who want the massage here). The sticky chewy rice with mango dessert was a pleasant surprise after the massage.
