The husbands (3 of us) went on this trip while the wives slept in. It was a lot of fun. The tour provided rods and bait plus help in landing the fish. The 3 of us fished for 3 hours and landed 20 Mee Kong Giant Catfish. Biggest one nearly 50 lbs. Lots of fun. Must go. The only thing they are missing is the harness for the rod. It would be super perfect if they had that. We had to put the rod against our body and that wasn't fun but it was still a super fun trip.

We had a great time fishing for the Mekong catfish, which are great fighters!! You fish on shore. We had Tuk tuk for a guide, and he was very good at it!! My best was a 40kg, 125 centimeter, with others close behind. The morning was slower but built up in the afternoon as it got warmer. It is amazing the pull those fish have!! Takes awhile to bring them in. Reiner picked us right on time and brought us back to the guest house. On day trips lunch is included, which was very good!! We'll certainly be returning for another fishing expedition!!

Went today and caught 18 big catfish. Biggest one was 1.2 meters. The pick up and drop off from hotel was awesome and super nice host! Definitely worth it.
But I’d suggest maybe only a 1/2 day.

Arranged for pick up from my hotel at 1.30pm. I waited outside for 1 hour from 1.20pm. The driver never arrived and when I phoned up to ask why the driver never arrived, the person on the other end of the line tried to blame me. He said I never showed up so he drove off. I explained to him that he was lying as I'd been there 10 minutes earlier than the pick up time arranged. He started to abuse me down the phone and then hung up on me. He had the manners of a pig...

We decided to do the dream lake overnight stay, which essentially included a half day fishing trip.
What we enjoyed:
- Scenery - both lakes are beautiful and relaxing to spend time at, definitely out of the hustle and bustle of town.
- The fishing at the lake was challenging, but we ended up catching two relatively small fish which justified spending the time we did there! We spent 8.30-12.30, then after from about 6 until 7 (dinner-time). You can fish whenever you want after that, they have a light outside for you.
- Borsang Fishing Lake: This is where you catch the giant mekong catfish, and the fishing is great fun. You spend most of the time reeling them in - they're a good challenge! By far the biggest fish we had ever caught. Our Thai guide, who was very friendly, does try to do everything for you at first, but you can ask to bait and cast out yourself - 'no problem!' The fun lies in the fight, and these fish put up a fight!
- The bungalow was a nice place to stay, they have a selection of DVDs to choose from if you wish to watch a movie at night.
- The food is tasty, but on the expensive side: around 150 per meal, and on the budget side around 100.
What we didn't enjoy:
- They have a sign that says there is a 500 baht fine if you bring in outside food or drink. The closest we have come to something like this is not being allowed drinks onto planes. We don't know whether it is enforced or not, but we think that it is very poor...
- You pay for your bait (310 baht) at the dream lake, but not at Borsang Fishing Park.
- We asked to stop off at a 7-11 for water, and were refused, with the explanation that they sell water at a reasonable price...15 baht for a small bottle and 40 baht for a large bottle is far from reasonable in our backpacker minds! Buy water at Borsang Fishing Park for half the price!
- Everything was rushed, which didn't really suit us on our holiday pace - fishing is meant to be relaxing! On two occasions we were given a time when we were to leave, only to be pressured 10-15 minutes before that time that it was time to leave!
- If you look up Borsang Fishing Park yourself, you can just rent a rod which comes with tackle and fish yourself (we fished next to an expat who did this). If you're on a budget or would rather fish without a guide and can find your own way there, this is probably a better option!
In total we spent about 4,300 for the two of us, without eating breakfast (on both days) or lunch. For those who are budget conscious we thought it would be useful to know the above before making a decision, but we definitely had a great time fishing on two beautiful lakes!

My husband and I have fished both lakes and had amazing experiences.
Dreamlake is an anglers lake with a huge variety of 'most wanted fish' from all over the world that a true angler dreams of.
My husband has caught 44lb Alligator Gar, 38lb Pacu, Giant Mekong Catfish, 4x Red Tail Catfish, Indian Carp, Tilapia and Barbed Carp at Dreamlake whilst fishing 6 days during slow period for fishing. Fishing was very slow and sometimes worrying at this timing but he has caught some of his 'Bucket list' fish.
And we both caught over 500lb in weight of Giant Mekong catfish and Striped Catfish at Paradise lake in a day (I had to rest up and have a little sunbathe after half a day due to huge amount of fishing after landing my biggest at 54lbs!!!!)
Even if you have never fished Paradise Lake is a must do in Chiang Mai - its a once in a lifetime fun nonstop experience. A guide will provide you with all the support to bag some BIG FISH!
Reiner the owner of Dreamlake who also arranges the guided days to Paradise Lake is a fantastic guy. He will pick you from your hotel or airport and give you advise when fishing his lake. His wife is a fab cook - cooks everything - the menu is extensive with dishes from all over the world!
Hubby can't wait to return for the great fishing and hospitality :) next on his list is the mighty Arapaima........TIGHT LINES!
***Check our photo on the brochure, my biggest fish yet!

Reiner collected me from my place at 6.am and the 20min drive brought me to the lake, I had been warned the recent cold weather had slowed the fishing down, I might have to work even harder than usual for my fish. So it seemed, and by mid-afternoon I had missed 2 good bites and was getting despondent and depressed. A chance of method and location was called for. I took the rod with a float, old favourite from England and a bag of sausage. and walked around the lake into the sunny side.
30 mins later I hooked a fish and lost it! A Pecu I think from the short glimpse I got of it and the fight. Was It to be 'one of those days'?. I carried on and the next bite was something big.. It went out into the lake, but was brought back then darted for my bank, around some bamboo poles at the waterside and along the bank, clever fish. Help was on its way in the shape of Liam and Ben from Derbyshire, I was able to free the line from the bamboo, make my way along the bank to where the fish had disappeared under the bank.
Liam in the bushes with the net, Ben holding me by the belt as I leaned out to try to coax the fish out. Success! the large Red-Tailed Catfish in the photo, not weighed, the scales were the other side of the lake, but over 25lb and beautiful.
Dreamlake has wonderful fish, but it is not an over-stocked commercial fishery, the only guarantee is that it will be hard work. But when the rewards come they make it all worthwhile.
I bought my friends a beer, the least I could do after the help with the fish.. a great day (the food is also very good)

Had never been fishing before. Had never really wanted to go fishing but after a hugely disappointing fishing experience in Cuba last year, my husband and son were keen to go and I decided to join them. I'm so glad I did - what a great day out!
The man made lake isn't the prettiest I've ever seen but it wasn't all that far from the centre of Chiang Mai, there was plenty of shade and the shop sold ice cold beer! We were teamed up with an Australian family of seasoned fishermen and they started catching fish almost immediately. I took an hour to learn how to cast, but the guide was patient and eventually I was able to start fishing. It was surprisingly enjoyable, and the icing on the cake was when, after an epic battle, and help from at least 3 other people, I finally landed a fish! It was a 30+ kilo catfish, ugly as sin but hugely impressive.
We had cold beers to celebrate and I finished off the morning's fishing by catching another fish unaided. I felt that it was best to end on a high so although we were booked in for the full day, after lunch, my family resumed fishing but I stayed in the decking area at one end of the lake. It was shady, close to the beer supply, had comfy chairs, a view of the lake and free Wi-Fi so I spent a very happy, relaxing afternoon there.
As an introduction to fishing, this was unbeatable. Both my husband and son caught many fish (all of which are thrown back) and my son's final catch was a monster catfish of close to 40kilos. Everyone went home happy! Well worth the money!

My wife and I went fishing with Dreamlake Fishing last year and had a blast. We just did another trip and it was just as good as our last visit. Reiner picked us up at our hotel
promptly by 8:15 a.m. We were met by Pong our fishing guide. He set us up so the only thing we had to deal with was reeling in those Giant Mekong Catfish. No fishing experience is necessary. A delicious lunch was included. The photos that you will take holding these fish will be wonderful memories of your trip. This experience should not be missed when visiting Chaing Mai.

We had some nice fishing during half a day at the lake. We were however a bit bothered about how much we paid for the trip and we realized we would have paid only 30% of the price if we would have taken a taxi there by ourselves and then rented a rod. The artificial lake i not far from the city. Lunch was not included for us, however only costed about 50bath per main course. Not the best lunch we have had...
