Amazing experience
Dec 2019 • Friends
This place is amazing. I am writing a long overdue review after visiting last year. The chefs were incredibly friendly and also very good at their jobs. I’m vegetarian and they seamlessly integrated substitutes for me throughout the course and all of the food we made tasted delicious. I still cook many of the recipes we learned a year later. The location is beautiful as well and the staff are incredibly hospitable. Couldn’t say enough good things about Pantawan!

We had the best day with Yammy! We loved our meals and loved learning about Thai cuisine. It was a beautiful setting, and Yammy was an incredible host through our experience. Can't recommend this enough, what we wouldn't give to be back there now!

Favorite Activity in Chiang Mai!
Mar 2020
I've heard that cooking classes overall aren't necessarily a "must-do" but Pantawan Cooking is something all visitors should do! The ride to the market from Old City was comfortable in the air conditioned van. Our tour guide/instructor was very informative around the market - tried a couple things I normally wouldn't have and they were all so delicious! The school is located right down the street from the market and is located in a beautiful, peaceful yard. You're offered beer/wine and the instructor tells funny/interesting stories about the food/Thai culture throughout the day. The ingredients (including the needed amounts) are given to you and the employees clean up after every dish. The best part after making all the food, is getting to eat it and realizing that you actually did a pretty good job! He then gives you a copy of the recipes and a certificate to make it offical! It was a relaxing day for cooking!

Such an Awesome Experience
Mar 2020
I could not recommend Pantawan enough. We booked our spots for a Saturday lunch class the day before and we were lucky enough to find that they still had availability for our group. First we were taken to a local market where we tried some food from vendors (all amazing) and got to hear all about what it had to offer. We were then taken to the cooking school, which was beautiful. We loved the open space and the beautiful garden outside. The dishes were a lot of fun to make and our instructor could not have been nicer. It ended up being one of the best parts of our trip!

Chiang Mai Highlight
Jan 2020
The Pantawan Cooking class was a highlight of my recent trip to Thailand/Cambodia. The market visit preceding the class was interesting and informative with tasty samples. The dishes we learned to cook were uncomplicated and delicious using ingredients available in the US. The teacher was delightful and provided clear instruction and answered questions throughout the lessons. The rural setting was relaxing.

Detailed cooking session with chef
This cooking class is the closest to our resort. Email was replied promptly and payment was convenient. Meeting place was convenient, clear and on time.

We had a tour around maehin market first Trying out their green chilli with pig skin and their famous chiang mai sausage. The chef who was wearing a t shirt explain the commonly use product in Chiang mai. I would have to say chiang mai and bkk is slightly different

Once arrived at the cooking school, we had our welcome drink and a cold towel to freshen up. Then the chef change his chef top and immmediately we saw the entire mood change. He was very detail and amusing. Telling us some local folklore.

Their session are very intense but yet fun. First they will explain and cook at the same time and let us have a taste.

Next we will then go to our individual stations to cook on our own. Like master chef. Once each cooking is done, the assistants will change all the utensils and cookery.

Once all cooking are done, our food will be plated and we are ready to eat our master piece. I highly recommend this school. Yes it could be far from city but the ambience makes up for it. They do have complimentary pick up and drop off service too so dont worry about transport.

Renewed our love of Thai Cuisine
Jan 2020
This was a great 1/2 day experience that started by meeting our chef, Yam at the local market. She explained all the product we saw, touched, tasted, smelled and ate. Then we rejoined at the schools facility in a rural part of Chiang Mai. She demonstrated each preparation and then prepared it ourselves. Spicy and Fresh is how I think of Thai food and we love it. As promised, Yam sent us a generous collection of 7 full meal menus (one for each day of the week) with all the preparations and ingredients well explained. But there's more! The grounds at this school are lush and colorful. I would highly recommend this school. We took a similar class in the other countries we visited (Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam) and this school and the staff stands out as the best we visited. I may be biased, I love Thailand, the people and of course the food.

Thai Cooking and Culture Immersion
Nov 2019
My husband and I attended a cooking class at Pantawan Cooking School last November (2019). The experience was absolutely amazing!! We are regular cooks and familiar with Asian cooking but Gunn, the Chef /instructor was able to add a bit of flare and culture that we simply did not expect. We were met at the local farmers market and the Chef walked us through the market explaining the different wonderful delights that people were selling. It was a wonderful way to experience some cultural foods you probably won't see in the United States unless you live near a good and I mean good Asian market. Finally, during class the Chef insured that he provided easy explanations, frequently stopped for questions, and a real plus shared some of his experiences bringing us a bit closer to the Thai people and culture. In the end, you get to eat all the wonderful dishes you cook. And, yes, we were delighted by what we created!! A definite to do, if you are in the area!!!

Fun way to spend and day and learn something too!
Dec 2019
We arranged the cooking class after a personal recommendation. The communication was excellent during the booking process. Pickup was on-time. The tour through the market was interesting and informative. The class was well organized and professionally run. All in all, I was happy with the experience. Now if I could find some of the ingredients now that I'm back home.
