Best souvenir to get from Thailand, learn to make your own proper Thai food :) Aoy starts with a quick tour on the market, and explains all those "exotic" vegetables. After that it's off to the kitchen, where you'll learn to prepare the dishes of your choosing. And it is surprisingly easy, and of course yummy!

"I had a wonderful experience at the cooking studio with patient and clear instructors who taught delicious recipes with generous portions. The instructors were attentive enough to pack any leftover food in takeout containers for me to take away. Additionally, it's impressive that they went the extra mile to help call a car and even handle the payment process before I left. Overall, I had a fantastic experience with the attentive and thoughtful instructors."

I liked so much how our teacher New explained us into detail how we schould choose our inggridents for our chosen disches. We cooked 4 different kind on our own choices. And wjth instruction of teacher New we managed it to taste to perfection. Dear Aoy thank you for booking us so suddenly, I wish to come back there and take other classes with different disches. A lot of fun day to spend and properly to learn order how to cook like local Thai.

Having read so many positive reviews of this establishment, our party of three were really looking forward to another great Thai cookery experience. It's true that Aoy is a warm person and certainly gave us a nice welcome. She did not however accompany us to the rather meagre local market. Diamond, who stood in for her, in our opinion, was out of her depth; unable to translate some of the produce. The only purchases made were local herbs. Once back at the 'Studio' Aoy helped us through the first dish - Chicken and cashew for some; she then announced that she had to leave to 'carry out some business.' Her charming, unqualified assistants did their best to finish the session, though we felt short-changed in the information department. We would have appreciated proper explanations on how the various pastes, central to most of the dishes, we're made. We felt there was an overall lack of organisation as well as cleanliness. One small hand towel between six people was all on offer in the small restroom. In our opinion, this would not be the cooking experience of choice in Chiang Mai.

We were picked up right on time and brought to the market with Ann and Muay. They did a great job explaining all of the ingredients we would be using and we were impressed at their ability to figure out what to buy to accommodate all of our different selections (we each got to pick our own dishes from each category on the way to the market).

The studio was very clean, air conditioned and had a great set up. We were constantly offered water, coffee and tea throughout the day. The two girls did a wonderful job guiding each of us, letting us try the different ingredients and cater the dish to our own taste. We loved everything we ate! The portions were full sized for each meal and we were incredibly full by the end of the day!

Worth mentioning that everything was super organized, stations were cleaned and prepped, and dishes were done as we ate, so that there was no down time between courses. We also got to eat each dish fresh and warm as we went, we didn't wait until the end to try everything.

Aoy, the owner, appeared half way through the course to offer even more help and instruction. She has set up a wonderful business in Chiang Mai that feels more like being welcomed into a family house than offer a tour service. Will be recommending to all our friends :)

With love and a smile, Thank you for visiting. I do appreciate that we would be one of your favorite activity of the family trip in Thailand. We all did enjoy the cooking class with the family. We will keep doing as our best and make it better. And hope to see you come back to Chiangmai next time. Thank you, AOy

My husband and I took the 1/2 day cooking class and loved our time with Aoy & Onn. We were picked up from our hotel (also taken back after the class) and taken to the local market with baskets to pick up the food we were about to use to cook. There were 6 people in our class, and our instructor began by having everyone introduce themselves, where they're from, and how spicy they like their food. It immediately made us all comfortable with each other. The instructor always stopped to ask if we had questions. We loved the cards where we could choose what we cooked, and for the price, not only did we have an incredible experience, we got SO much food to eat! They have take away for when you can no longer continue to eat the dishes you make, no matter how badly you wish you could continue. We all passed around our dishes so all of the people in our class could try each other's. It was a wonderful experience of community and friendship in a class where we started as strangers from 4 different countries. I am so excited for their new location, which looks beautiful, and would recommend Aoy's independently run small company Galangal to anyone. I know there are many cooking classes to choose in Chiang Mai, but I cannot say enough great things about our experience and that you will not regret choosing Galangal.

This place is awesome!! I went with my sister and friend for the night class and it was tons of fun! Aoy was very good at speaking English as well as her assistant. They have a very clean establishment and are entertaining people. We learnt how to make 5 awesome dishes that tasted fabulous!

To whomever complained about there being only one wash cloth in the bathroom that is FALSE there were also paper towels.

Not only did we learn how to make the Thai dishes and about them, Aoy also answered all of our pestering questions we had. Such as what people regularly eat and if they actually pounded out the curry paste like they showed us each time. I highly recommend going to this cooking class you will not regret a moment I promise. Lastly don't eat anything before you go!!! We ate breakfast only and still couldn't finish each dish!

P.S. The market is really neat I suggest buying a donut haha very tasty!

JUST GOOOO!!! :)

Well organized and authentic. After a guided tour and explanation of the ingredients at the local market, we received such fun and professional instruction. We left smiling and full. Go easy on the chilli... It's hotter than you think ;)

Our family (mum, dad and our 2 girls 17 & 12) just spent the most fantastic afternoon learning how to cook Thai with the lovely Aoi and her cousin. We started with a trip to the local market where Aoi demystified some Thai ingredients for us and bought food for us to cook. We then came back and cooked four dishes of our own choice. We
had lots of help and encouragement from Aoi and her kind cousin gave our youngest all the help she needed without taking over. We then sat round a dining table and ate each course as we cooked it. There were six of us altogether (there is a max of 8 per class) which meant that it felt fantastically personal. Aoi is great fun and seems to really enjoy what she does which made it all the more enjoyable. We got to take away our own cookery book each and we'll definitely be trying more when we get home. Definitely a real highlight of the holiday so far and excellent value for money - thank you Aoi and good luck with your great venture.

Aoy was a great hostess and teacher - she was obviously experienced but great fun as well. We learnt how to make four different dishes and then got to eat them - an incentive to make sure we listened! We also met two lovely ladies who were back- packing (Gillian and Natalia) who shared the experience with us. A great way to spend an evening - thank you Aoy for sharing your cuisine! We will definitely be putting into practise what we learned.
