We did this bicyle tour with Nooh on our first full day in Chiang Mai.
Nooh Greated us at our hotel and adjusted the bikes to suit then we are on our way.
Road safety was a priority and I was comfortable riding on main roads under Noohs guidance. We stopped along the way and at a local market, cafe, local restaurant and smoothie place. All food was awesome.
We went to the waterfall and hiked a little where I was a little nervous along little cliff edges but Nooh was very helpful and made me feel very safe.
We had a fantastic day and I look forward to another bike ride with Nooh next time.
Do yourself a favour and ride with Nooh. Had a fun day and great experience.

Wow, what a fantastic way to see the real Chiang Mai! Nooh, our tour guide made us all feel 100% comfortable from the very start and ensured our every need was met. This is very much an individualised tour as Nooh caters for everyone, and nothing is too much trouble.
The riding was easy, and the majority of the day it was flat, pleasant and no problem for even the physically unfit in the group. It was such a beautiful experience meandering through all the diversity Chiang Mai has to offer. I was initially concerned about negotiating safely through the traffic. I needn't have worried. After a quick instructional chat from Nooh at the start of the day, he expertly guided us through all sorts of traffic scenarios with no problems whatsoever. In fact after being scared for our lives in Phuket on the roads, Chiang Mai was extremely refreshing, as the traffic was much more civilised, and particularly respectful of cyclists as Nooh explained.
Our first stop was the local food markets, where we walked through aisles of eclectic stalls, viewing crazy, foreign stuff such as pots of toads, and weird and wonderful fruits and vegetables. We stopped regularly to enjoy a breakfast of all sorts of tasty offerings freshly cooked and prepared by the vendors, while Nooh explained the essence of Northern Thai cuisine, told us about the medicinal properties of different plants and herbs, and outlined the lifestyles of the market vendors. It was such an interesting experience.
Next we moved on to visit a craftsman in a back alley shed, carving a pair of huge aluminium panels he'd been commissioned to prepare for a beautiful temple. It was incredible to see the expertise this master displayed in his work. Nooh explained that in his 80s, this man was one of the last craftsmen left trained through years and years of experience, to do such specialised work. It was an honour to witness him at work, and then fascinating to visit the temple where his specialised work will one day adorn. The decoration in the temple was humbling, and the historical stories depicted in the artwork, were fascinating. Spending time in the temple was a definite highlight of the day.
After stopping for a really traditional Northern Thai lunch at a secret place, we continued through gardens and backstreets where we witnessed the normal day to day activities of the locals. Nooh provided running commentary, plentiful water and ample laughs as we travelled, always ensuring everyone's comfort and giving insight into different situations we came across. Nooh's philosophical and spiritual wisdom was particularly refreshing. His views epitomised the Buddhist ethos in much of Northern Thailand which promotes the sharing of ones resources, and the knowledge that accumulation of wealth at the expense of the health of body and soul is self defeating and futile, as you can't take it with you. One of Nooh's favourite sayings is, 'Don't worry, be happy.' His laid back, cheerful attitude encourages everyone to live in the moment, and enjoy the now.
I might add at this point that Nooh makes regular stops at, 'western' toilets to cater for those needs too. He also takes many, many photos recording every aspect of the day for you, and then he kindly emails all the shots to you at the end of the day.
After stopping off at another local joint for, 'the best coffee' in Chiang Mai as Nooh put it, ( and it was not disappointing- hint, try the banoffee! ) it was time to bike up a bit of a hill to see an exquisitely beautiful national park. After a few minutes of more strenuous riding ( don't worry - it's not that far, and you can walk your bike if it gets too much😊) we got to a beautiful park, and walked a short distance to a waterfall. Climbing up the rocks to a vantage place near the top of the falls ( be careful as it can be very slippery) we got to see such a beautiful view of the historic city we'd just explored below. We spent around 40 minutes enjoying the serenity, chatting to Nooh, and just enjoying the sounds of the water, the humming of insects, the smells of nature and the moment. It was a very special time.
Upon leaving the falls, it's a fun downhill ride back to the city. Nooh then took us to a groovy juice bar where we ordered all sorts of amazing combos and enjoyed sipping while reflecting on the experiences of the day.
Then it was a short ride back to Nooh's place to dismount the bikes, and bid farewell to our wonderful host.
I can't recommend this tour highly enough. We all had a great time, learned so much, and embraced the opportunity to really get amongst the locals and get a real feel for the place. Five stars all the way. Do yourself a favour and book with Nooh. You won't regret it. Everlasting memories!

Our family of 4 adults did the Old City Tour with Nooh and another family. It was a sensational all-day activity which was highly rated by all members of the group. Nooh went out of his way to show us the little-known parts of Chiang Mai. We ate a traditional Thai breakfast and lunch, and even had a smoothie at the end of the tour - all included in the price. We visited a local food market, a silver (aluminum temple), stopped at an aluminum craftsman's shop, swam beneath a waterfall, did a short hike, and cycled through hidden alleyways and streets. Nooh took the greatest care in assuring our safety. There was some travel across busy intersections, etc... - no problems at all. Nooh arranged for hotel pickup. We were then brought to his business to get a bike and were were off. Bikes were in great shape. Chiang Mai is in a flat valley - perfect for biking.

Reviews on TA was positive so I tried to book them.
17th Dec - submitted booking details (date and number of riders) via their website.
20 Dec - submitted another email requesting to book a bike tour.
Finally got a blunt response today 26th Dec "where are you staying". I inquired / emailed 3 different tour companies on the 17th as we planned on several activities during our stay. We had email confirmation within 24 hours from the other 2 tour companies to confirm our booking but nothing from Araiwah cycle till today. You snooze, you lose! I have since booked a cycle tour with another company who responded to our email within 24 hours.

This was THE highlight of my 2 weeks in Thailand. It was also the best day tour I have EVER taken. Nooh, the guide, truly knows and loves Chiang Mai. His observations were spot on. He is extremely attentive, encouraging, and accommodating, not to mention friendly. All of the day's activities and stops were very interesting and some were truly exciting. The icing on the cake will be the emailed collection of photos which Nooh took of you and your day arriving in your inbox.

You can walk around the city as much as you like but it’s definitely nice to hear about the culture and support local businesses through a guide!
Communication was amazing from the start- quick response, reminder of a good market on the Sunday night with good food we could go to and a detailed itinerary of the tour.
Picked up on time at 0730 with perfectly sized bikes (nooh had our heights noted in emails to make things easier!) we were given a bottle of water, led through the back streets to get 2 others then we set off.
We stopped at the proper local market- local prices, locals only shopping for fresh ingredients. It was nice to learn about the fruits and herbs and see how locals go about day to day life! Be prepared to be fattened up as you eat ALOT! Starting with Thai roti- amazing, sweet and savoury kind. Then some fruit to try with a bag saved for later, we had some yummy red berry sticky rice which was fantastic! this was all inside the market along with some soy cracker and seaweed crisp which nooh gave us each a bag of to take home.
We then stopped at another little local stall after cycling the side streets and off the beaten track alleys through residential areas seeing the typical old style Chiang Mai house style. We were served the “best fried chicken in Chiang Mai” - I’d agree. It was so tender with amazing flavour.
We carried on to a temple, learnt about the culture of kids and schools, respect of elders and some of the sculptures/art of the temple and had the opportunity to watch a man at work from his home later that day! Amazing to see it created infront of your eyes. We shared the temple with a group of school children who we got to interact with and get some pictures with as they taught us how to use the big musical dong! We went to a little local coffee shop for a break!
Other stops included a drive around hipster area and old city, the Chiang Mai hospital and university and a waterfall with short (but adventurous) hike, wear good footwear and you can swim here which was nice to cool off. There is a view point over Chiang Mai then we got fresh water bottles and stopped for lunch in a local restaurant. Nooh surprised the boys with a speciality northern dish depending on spice level, dietary needs and preference of meats that wasn’t even on the menu! I stuck with a Chiang Mai style green curry and we were all happy and cleared the plates!
The rain came for the last part of the trip, nooh supplies rain coats for us to keep, we stopped in finally a a smoothie bar- UNREAL! You will go again anal again, they are so good and huge for only £1!!!
Nooh is a legend- he looked after us all so well and was a fantastic tour guide- he knows the city well and loves his food! He has the best recommendations and we honestly are so grateful we choose him for our tour!
-bikes are excellent quality
-felt completely safe in the traffic
-he is patient even for the hill up to the waterfall and you can even walk if you struggle.
-you learn so much about the city
-all these food stops and juice bars etc are included in the price
-prepared with rain coats
-took pictures so we wouldn’t have to worry about carrying phones
Highly recommend if in Chiang Mai!

This is a great way to see Chiang Mai, off the beaten track and beyond the Lonely Planet guide. Nooh clearly loves this city, especially the "real," non-touristy parts of it. He carefully herds you through traffic like a mother duck with her ducklings and was very patient and even helpful with our awkward starts and stops on the bikes. There is plenty of food, drink, and rest along the way. And he will tailor the route if you have special requests (we didn't particularly want to go to the waterfall, so he substituted a lovely, out-of-the-way temple where we sat and chatted in a serene setting while a thunder storm passed thru). My only complaint--and it's not really a complaint so much as a frustration--was that we passed so many photo-worthy places without stopping to snap them. Maybe we should have arranged a "Stop! photo-op!" signal with the little bells on the bikes... All in all, a lovely (if HOT) way to spend to a day in and around Chiang Mai.

The best thing out of this experience was that our guide, Nooh, treated it as a hang-out session and not a commercial exchange. It wasn't a business for him which was great because he was genuine and not like the typical tour-guides out to rip you off. He does not advertise Araiwah and relies on word of mouth such as TripAdvisor reviews.
Initially, when he tried to assure us with what we thought were corny lines like "free your mind" and "don't worry be happy", we were a little perplexed because who says these things?? But Nooh brought us to places which we wouldn't have otherwise experienced in Chiang Mai. The local market, a quiet waterfall, and my favourite, a quite temple made out of aluminium. There, we had a conversation about how he left the busy Bangkok to pursue a quieter life in Chiang Mai and what Araiwah means (What the heck). His love and passion for Chiang Mai was very obvious and he paid for all meals and snacks out of his own pocket.
At the end of the trip, we agreed amongst ourselves that Nooh had the rights to say stuff like "Free your mind". His life and his backstory reflected all these lines so much so that they don't seem corny coming from him.
He dropped us an email with photos he took of us during the trip and ended it off with "Thanks for hanging out today". I can't recommend this cycling trip enough and will remember his stories for many years to come.
Thanks Nooh!

Booked this tour before leaving England ,all correspondence was positive, even agreed to pick us up from our hotel which was outside of the town. The day before our tour I emailed to say we were looking forward to it but got no reply(should have made me wary) Waited in hotel reception next morning at 7.30am as agreed. At 7.55am got hotel to ring. Was told he wasn't coming as he had forgot to book us in and I think he said he was full up (wasn't really listening as too annoyed). He did apologise and offer us the next day but we already had something else planned. Fortunately the hotel had some leaflets and they rang another company who were able to fit us in ' mountain biking chiang mai' they were excellent and we did 2 hour biking and 3hrs kayaking - it wasn't hard we are two average fit 50 year olds!. Nooh has offered us a fee trip if we come back to chiang mai- a gesture I suppose but very unlikely to be taken up.

Everyone else on the tour was fine with their bicycles but mine had an unbalanced steering handle. This made it dangerous for turning, and I had a few scrapes through the day. Araiwah does not seem to pack a first aid kit, nor does he offer safety helmets.
This tour is best taken in the cooler months because the heat can be unbearably hot otherwise. Whilst the itinerary takes you out of town, it can seem interminable as you would be cycling endlessly with no end in sight. This is a no-frills tour, as we were invited to sit on bare grass crawling with ants at the Chiang Mai University park, with no mat or tarpaulin.
Beware the ride downhill from Doi Suthep Park is steep and if your bicycle and your cycling skills are not great, it would not be a happy ending!
The people of Chiang Mai are gracious and friendly, and the motorists were thankfully accommodating of our rag-tag team of cyclists.
