A great way to see Chian Mai .
The segways are pretty easy to ride , and you will be an expert after the tour.
We arrived in the afternoon , and it was only the 2 of us on the tour, and 2 guides , so we were well looked after , and given plenty of information about the City.
about 80% of the tour is on more quiet back streets , but you do in some parts drive on the main road, the guides were very good to ensure safety , and were always on the lookout , and would stop traffic if necessary.
the tour is a bit on the expensive side , but it is a good way to see the city , and get your bearings.
So cost aside ,this was a fun tour of the city.

We took this tour as a family and I was apprehensive mostly because I’d never been on a Segway before. It was a bit tricky at first but the more time you spend on it the easier it becomes. The instructor Cash was amazing. He was so thoughtful and a great instructor. His knowledge on the Old Town was perfect and the places he took us made the day super enjoyable. Cash was great with our son and I would highly recommend this tour.

This is the second time we joined Segway Gibbon. We absolutely loved it. We had the most wonderful time with Mr A and Josh. Last year our guides was Mr A and Cash and they were wonderful too. We highly recommend this tour and we will join again next time we in Chiang Mai. Thank you Segway Gibbon, you made our trip to Chiang Mai extra special.

Great way to see the old city. We covered so much in a short time. Our guides, A and Cash, were fun and made sure we were safe. However, I would have like more information about the sights we saw.

Firstly, I am pleased that others have had a good experience with this tour, as only 2 from our group of 5 came out of the tour unscathed.
We are a group of 7 Aussies. 5 of us decided to do a 2hr Segway tour around Chiang Mai. We are aged between 36 and 48, but are no slouches. We also did ziplining and kayaking while we were in Thailand and our work has allowed most of us to be exposed to a Segway at some point in the last 5 years so we were not concerned. It was to be one of the highlights of our trip to Thailand!
We arrived at the office to find they were running behind. No issue, there was a massive flower festival and pageant on and we knew that, so we amused ourselves while we waited for our turn.
Eventually, two guides became available. We were given a 15 minute introduction between the five of us, so about 3 minutes each and we took to it ok. I think a few more minutes each would have been better though. ie 5 minutes a customer. Unfortunately while we were practicing, members of the public walked through the area without a care, perhaps this could be looked at for future groups.
We got underway and after our introduction and were expected to cross busy Chiang Mai city straight away. Phew! We did it, but really? One guide went to the front the second to the rear. The guide at the front took off at a rate of knots and gave us directions of when to turn only 1 in every 10, so there were a lot of stressful moments! Their english was not crash hot, so at each attraction, we got a one line description like "700 years old, biggest one" or "700 years old best one, you should look" Again really? At AUD$80 a person I expected a lot more.
So we were cruising along when again the guide failed to signal a turn. One of our members turned quickly to avoid traffic and went down, colliding with a parked car. The guide had the hide to say, "you should practice more!" At the end of our introduction, he was happy with us, so I would suggest it was his call. This was not about more practice, this was about poor signalling on his part. He knows the track like the back of his hand, but this was our first time to Chiang Mai, we couldn't be expected to predict turns. I'm sure she only narrowly avoided injury and most certainly narrowly avoided being sued for hitting the guys car. No damage luckily. She decided a short time later after the guide pushed us through a RED LIGHT in heavy traffic that it wasn't for her. The guide kindly guided her back to the office while the rest of us waited. Down the track two of the segways played up and there was a second instance where one malfunctioned and went down. By this point the group was over it. We skipped lunch and kept going, getting back prior to our two hour time.
I was fuming! The guides were not careful enough with their group and practically ignored us the whole trip, even smoking in front of us. There was not enough attention to giving directions and there was basically no explanation of what we were seeing on the tour! The manager was nice enough, albeit only 3 weeks in the role. After speaking with his boss, he got a half refund for the person who couldn't continue. This was not about the money in the end. The boss needed to know what a bad experience we had - that is all.
This could be such a great tour! The manager should be checking the segways more regularly for safety. We found out that they normally have 7 but one was is in the repair shop at the time we went. I wonder when the other segways were last serviced or repaired? Only 1 of the 5 people in our group truly enjoyed this experience. Our dissatisfaction has nothing to do with age, fitness or anything else. It is down to the equipment, lack of proper introduction to the equipment, and a lack of english and proper direction on the guides part.
I really wanted this to be great but it wasn't! Couldn't recommend it to anyone!

If you've ridden a segway before this tour will blow any other out of the water. After a customary training session to make sure you can operate the segway you zip out in the traffic and visit several temples and if Ae and Cash think your segway skills cut it take you around the city through the markets and along some of the quieter streets of Chiang Mai. Your guides are hilarious and very knowledgeable about the city. Their skills at keeping you safe as you zip along are first class and you know safety is their first priority.

My kids are too young to do this in the US due to age restrictions but one kid made the weight requirement and she had a blast ! The guide was kind enough to let my younger kid try it out to get the experience in a safe place so she wouldn’t feel left out and I appreciated that .. he made sure she was safe and she enjoyed the experience and can’t wait to be older so she can do it properly!
You do go on the streets but they stop traffic and have a guide in front on a motorcycle and a guide on the Segway! Totally recommend this to anyone of any age !! My dad who is 70 did this !! About a 2 hour thing with a short break for a drink thrown in !

This is a fantastic way to see Chiang Mai. We are two couples in our fifties and loved every minute of it. Let's be honest - Thailand's not known for her safety standards! But we actually did feel very safe on our segways.
I was very nervous in our training session. Starting in the shop in a 2x2m area was scary and I thought I would never get the hang of it. But once we were in the car park it was easy. And I'm not coordinated at ALL.
Whizzing through the streets with the breeze in our hair was fun, and much cooler than walking. Our guide was very knowledgable and the stops quite interesting if you like looking at temples, but for me the fun part was just riding the segway!
We stopped for a much welcome cold drink and food.
The trip is quite expensive by Chiang Mai standards, but we thought it was worth every penny. Or baht! All in all a really really fun day.

Do you have to wear trainers like in the U.K. or can you wear flip flops?
Written July 17, 2018
Definitely close toed shoes / trainers .. the climb up is fairly steep and it’s dense forest so best thing keep your feet protected

I notice that segway tour is limited to 7 pax per ride. I am travelling with 9 other friends so total 10 pax. Can you accomodate 10 pax per ride?

2hour tour is about 2200baht ($66 US) well worth it, we had a ball. Staff are super friendly and safety was excellent.

"Should your child be under 40kg It is still possible to have fun for the entire family. We can arrange a Tuk Tuk to transport the child to each destination whereby they can then experience the Segway in a safe environment with a Safety Officer in control of the Segway. There is no Segway fee for the underweight child however the Tuk Tuk cost is 500THB."
