4-Hour Doi Suthep and Temples Tour from Chiang Mai

8 reviews
Explore Chiang Mai’s most splendid temples on a 4-hour cultural tour through the city’s gleaming spires, hushed sanctuaries and towering stupas. Climb 300 steps to the mountaintop Wat Phrathat Doi Suthep, with commanding views of the surrounding countryside. Stroll the pristine clusters of white chedi in Wat Suan Dok, which contains the ashes of Chiang Mai’s former royal family, and discover the weathered pagodas of Wat Jed Yod, an atmospheric temple whose ‘seven spires’ date to the 15th-century and are nestled in lush jungle foliage.

What a great day! We were recommended this class by a friend and it was such a great experience. Our teacher was very informative and fun. The food we made was excellent and the recipes given at the end has enabled us to recreate the lovely dishes at home!

I cannot emphasize how great of a class this was! It takes up almost a whole day (approximately 8am-5pm), so plan appropriately. However, it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip - and we were hesitant to do this in the beginning because we only had 3 days in Chiang Mai. You start out with a trip to the local market and spend the rest of the day at the farm cooking. The food was delicious and those skills are definitely something you'll want to bring back as a forever souvenir. The speed and timing of the class was perfectly paced so that the experienced chefs-to-be (like my husband) weren't bored and that the less-experienced cooks (such as myself) could follow along without getting lost. I felt there was sufficient breaks for rest, water/tea, touring the farm, and of course, enjoying the fruits of your labor. Obviously it helped that we had an engaging group. But what really made the experience magical was our guide/host - Gift. She was funny, approachable, knowledgeable and just a genuinely great person. If she worked with another cooking school, we'd probably sign up for that one if she was in charge of it because we know we'd have a blast and good food. Also, tips at the end are highly appreciated. It's not mandatory, but she and the Thai farm Cooking School team just spent 8+ hours teaching and entertaining you, so keep that into consideration! PS: This was from May 2018 (long overdue review, I know) and things may be different in the age of covid.

I'm glad I decided to join this activity. I enjoyed and learned a lot and I feel I am more confident now to buy produce from local market and cook my own Thai dishes when I come back to Bangkok. Fah is an amazing teacher, very kind and always ready to answer questions. The dishes we made taste so good. Highly recommend.

As expected during the easing of COVID 19 lockdown in Thailand, this trip out of the city and to the farm had some small adjustments to ensure hygiene was kept to high standards and close contact was kept to a minimum. We were taken to the local market, one of the cleaner and quieter markets around and then were taught by our instructor for the day, Kim, about Thai herbs and ingredients. At the farm and cooking school, we were shown around the farm, encouraged to taste the fresh fruit and veg they grow and collected some items we would need to cook our 4 different meals. Kim was a patient and thoughtful teacher who has excellent English skills. Would highly recommend this must do trip whilst in Chiang Mai.
