The Third Eye ayurvedic treatment is terrific. My husband and I had four treatments and each was exceptional. Yes, the prices are more expensive than street massage shops, but the massage therapists at Nakara are highly skilled and you will feel the difference. We try to support both street shops and spa places. Nakara has an ayurvedic massage menu and I prefer this type of treatment. The spa is gorgeous, clean, a powerful shower, jacuzzi tubs, and has talented therapists.

I decided that one of the things I'd do while in Chiang Mai was spoil myself with a nice spa treatment. I chose Nakara Spa because it offered Indian Ayurvedic treatments which appealed to me (I'm not a fan of the rough style of traditional Thai massages). I had the one-hour Shirobhyanga head neck and shoulders treatment which was deeply relaxing as promised. Not only was the treatment wonderful, the facilities and service were too. I was greeted with a friendly welcome and a cool drink. When I was ready I was invited to pop on slippers and was taken to the treatment room which had its own tiled shower and separate tiled toilet. There were many nice touches like fresh flower heads floating in a bowl under the bed's head rest (sure beats looking at the floor!). Because of the oils used - including in your hair - you need to shower afterwards and I was told to take as long as I wanted. I'm sure you would be welcome to use the shower before your treatment too, if you needed. All in all it was a great experience which I can recommend. Sadly I wasn't in CM long enough to take advantage of the discount voucher they gave me for a return visit - I would happily have had another treatment if time allowed. Nakara is easy to find - it's on a main road alongside the river and is in a white, three-story, colonial style building - you can't miss it. Easy to book via email.

I stayed at the Ping Nakara Boutique Hotel & Spa, so it would have been a travesty not to have visited the spa during my stay! It was an amazing experience. All the treatments are Ayurvedic and tailored to the person. There was quite a lengthy questionnaire to fill in on arrival but it seemd to point to the best treatment for the individual. I had been quite stressed so they recommended a two-hour treatment for me. I had a Pottali treatment which uses herbal rice and milk compresses. I don't think I have ever felt as relaxed as I did after this massage - the therapist was really good. Also the massage table was very comfortable - something you do not always find in spas! All in all this was a great experience.

Ambience very nice. Nice personel. Thail oil massage good. On the second visit I tried the Ayurveda full body massage for about 300 baht more. It was exactly the same application. When I raised this it was explained to me that a different oil was used. In my opinion, this does not justify the higher price of 300 baht more. Doesn't suit me. A pity

The spa is a beautiful facility. And as any review it is a snapshot moment. I booked a 90 min massage. As all spa’s they ask you where you want emphasis and if you want “tourist-style”, regular or deep. I checked deep. Problem is... it wasn’t. Not even close.

So miscommunication, or just a bad day for the masseuse. Either way not worth the 4000 bath for two persons in this moment of time. For that money I expected better. So not bad but definitely not what I expected.

We are interested to venture in a kind of Ayurvedic experience, although this is relatively costly compared with some other spa offer:

1. Therapists – The therapists are not so skillful and attentive throughout the process. For instance, the massage bed is rather hard and I lay on my back for about two hours. A thoughtful therapist should have provided me an extra pillow under the legs to reduce stress to the lower back. In terms of the value given, I’d expect a better service – the therapists deliver the service similar to a spa which cost me one-tenth of the value. Disappointed.
2. Product quality – Both of us try oil massage and the quality of the massage oil is good in terms of the texture and scent.
3. Accessibility – The spa locates in the city centre and is within easy reach.
4. Cleanliness – There is no worry of such.
5. Atmosphere – It’s a spa in luxury setting.

We expect that the reception will evaluate with us a suitable treatment, although we have sent in email to indicate our preference via email before our arrival As a matter of fact, filling in the questionnaire at the reception seems to be a formality only and it makes no reference to our treatment.

All in all, the experience is not so value for money and we’d better explore the Ayurvedic experience in Spa in India.

Dear Guest, We appreciate having the comment from you and your husband, and are sorry that some of our style did not appeal to you. In fact, our Ayurvedic spa is unique in Chiang Mai so the treatments are not like a traditional Thai massage. All the oils used are developed from Ayurvedic traditions, and as such are totally organic, with no added perfumes. Our therapists undergo extensive training in these kinds of therapies, and it may be that they did not use enough pressure for you. This is very subjective and based on the guests’ impression of what they prefer. We always have questionnaire for guests to comment on their experience with our spa, and the mean of satisfaction rate is on the very high side. We also got many compliments from guests who wrote about our spa on the review in our hotel section, two of the quotes is as follow. . . . We also enjoyed a relaxing massage in the spa. I would highly recommend it. Very relaxing and professionally delivered procedures and the spa is very clean and cool. I am very reluctant to just let anyone provide a massage on me in Asia but i felt very safe and well looked after here. The girls were well trained. . . . Suz003 (TA Reviewed 16 September 2012, in Ping Nakara Boutique Hotel and Spa). . . . And the Nakara spa is not to be missed. Service above and beyond with the treatments being first rate! We enjoyed it so much the first night we were there that we went again the next night. . . . Bensmom55

At first I thought a facial over a full body massage was going to be a bit of a waste. But having had a number of massages during this trip, I opted for Shironasya which helps deal with the head and sinuses. Pure bliss. After a quick foot cleanse I was laid out and treated to an oil massage, a rice and milk scrub/acupressure session to my face and a beautiful hot oil massage to the head.
The service is wonderful and the facilities just right. When can I move in?

We tried Ayurvedic style of foot massage. It was a great relief to my foot after whole day of walking. Even though it was an hour session, it helps a lot. The masseurs did a great job. And on our last day after we checked out, we had Traditional Lanna Oil massage for an hour session. We were given 5 types of oils option, and I chose Jasmine rice oil. Perfect smell, mild and not too strong for me. It was indeed a relaxing massage because we are seeking aromatherapy type. Would recommend to my friends that travel to Chiang Mai for a great massage place.

Im usually skeptical of hotel spas in terms of the experience and value but Nakara Spa exceeded all my expectations. I've been to spas all around Thailand and Nakara Spa is way up there with the best of them.

My husband and I are here at the hotel for our honeymoon and today tried the 2 hour Candle wax promo: 30 min exfoliating scrub, 30 min milk bath, and 1 hour candle wax massage followed by afternoon tea for 2 people. The massages are the best we have had in the city! What an amazing experience, we felt like royalty with the staff and loved ending the whole experience by the pool with a tasty arrangement. It ended up being a wonderful 3 hours that helped to truly make our visit.
