Okay, there is a hand-full of zip line companies in the Chiang Mai area. Probably two hands-full. If you’re like me, you’re reading all of the reviews on Trip Advisor trying to weed out the bad and go with the best. Well, you know that “best” is very subjective. Anyway, here I go with my review and hopefully it will be helpful enough for you to make your choice. I have also gone zip lining at Flight of the Gibbon so I will write this review comparing the two companies.
First of all, price, I know I can’t give you the exact price of what each company charges but Jungle Flight is cheaper. Does that mean that their service is sub-par to Flight of the Gibbon (Gibbon)? I’ll let you deicide at the end of my review.
Jungle Flight has about 20 lines compared to 18 lines at Gibbon. Jungle Flight has more lines but I believe the average length of the lines (cable) is a bit longer at Gibbon. What that means is more time zipping across the jungle. Hmmm…
Jungle Flight and Gibbon, both, has 3 bridges to cross.
Jungle Flight has three abseils (straight down via rope controlled by the staff) versus two at Gibbon.
Jungle flight has two hikes up hill, which there is one that is pretty significant. Hike one is probably about a 10 minute hike uphill and the second one is about 5-7 minutes. The good news is that they provide bottled water at the end of both hikes and a snack (muffin) at the end of the first one. Gibbon has one hike that is not too long.
There is lunch or dinner provided. The food at Gibbon was better than Jungle Flight but we’re really not going into the jungle to eat are we…?
Safety, yes, the all-important question. Are they safe? YES! They are equally safe. The use the same equipment and same rules. DO NOT touch the cables at anytime!!!
Take your camera and video camera! They want you to take pictures as well as videos. Just make sure that it’s tethered to you somehow so that you don’t lose it if you were to accidentally drop it. There is no way to retrieve them in the jungle! Jungle flight had a few helmets with the brackets attached on the helmet for GoPro cameras. Not sure about Gibbon as I went there before the GoPro era.
The one thing that Flight of the Gibbon does that Jungle Flight does not do is, at the end of your zip lining, they take you to an area with waterfall for a short hike and sightseeing.
On the flip side, Jungle Flight does give you a t-shirt at the end where Gibbon did not. This might have changed since I last went to Gibbon. Call to find out if a t-shirt is important to you.
The staff at both, Jungle Flight and Flight of the Gibbon are very enthusiastic and fun! Everyone there seems to really enjoy their job! Their enthusiasm and the fun environment they create make the people at ease. My girlfriend was real nervous at first but after a few zips, she was totally comfortable and it was due to the staff being so understanding and helpful by zipping with her a couple of times.
So, here is my review. I hope it was enough to help you make your decision. May be I confused you more… Either way, enjoy your day zip lining.
