We arrived on March 21st at about 9:30 a.m. we planned on staying two nights. Upon arrival we started feeding the elephants so they could get to know us. After about a half hour we went for a walk in the mountains with the elephants. We were walking with five or six elephants. Chi our guide is very good and has been doing this for a long time. The elephant stopped to eat along the way eating the different plants. We stopped at a hut that the elephants were familiar with and Chi and his crew we're able to give them more food such as banana trees and bananas and different vegetation that they like. Then all of a sudden one of the elephant started making noises and we found out it was because he was thirsty. So all of them started making noises so we went back so they could drink water. And by the time we got back it was lunch time. So we had a very nice lunch the food was great and then we had about an hour or an hour and a half to rest. And then we went with the elephants down to the river. Probably about an hour's walk or so because you go slowly and the elephants eat on the way. Do elephants love the water and it was very interesting to see them interact. They are amazing animals and it's very obvious that Chi and his crew care for the animals very well.

You said it all Brian! When you observe the elephants, their behaviour, when you listen to them and you learn about them you can understand what they want and respond to their needs. This is what Chi is doing for so many years, living with them as family. He understand them and do his best to give them a happy life. Thank you again for your visit!

The work by Chi Jungle Man is genuine and you can see the love that the mahouts have for their elephants. The elephants are not forced to do anything they do not want to do and interaction with them is not forced. We fed the elephants, walked with them through the jungle so they could feed and watched them play in the water, without interference. There was even two babies who were so cheeky and adorable! Lunch was a delicious Thai meal, the best one yet! We were also given clothes to wear because things do get a bit dirty with these magical creatures! You can see how happy the elephants are and their characters really shine through. As the elephants are not controlled, you can see that they really have minds of their own, and it is very funny to watch them and you can appreciate what wonderful animals they are :-)

This place was recommended by a friend who used to work with the elephants here at Chi Jungle Man elephant sanctuary.

We got to spend the whole day feeding the elephants, walking side by side with them, bathing them down by the river, it truly was an amazing experience!

They supply you with clean clothes to wear so you don't get your own clothes dirty.

They were all so calm and chilled, but the younger ones were cheeky and playful!

We were lucky enough to see a baby elephant only born 5 days before we visited! it was the most heart melting thing i've ever seen! so playful and inquisitive, we got to pat it and the mother was so chill there right beside her baby!

A local guide shared with us the history of the Karen hill tribe people and where he came from, as well as the history of the elephants that live at this sanctuary.

Lunch was included and it was the most delicious meal of yellow curry, deep fried onion, steamed rice, stir fried mixed veggies and for the chicken eaters - fried chicken drum sticks. bottles of water are supplied as well.

I did not want to leave this place! I highly recommend this place to anyone. truly loved it!

If you are looking for a place that takes care of their elephants, you can go with Chi. He is very welcoming and takes good care of his babies with a lot of respect too. We enjoyed spending times to feed the elephants, have a walk in the forest, no riding which is good, but walking and observing them looking for bamboo leaves. In the afternoon we went to the river, elephants could refresh, play and bath. Everything is included, food is delicious and you can really see that Chi loves his giant babies.

Thank you Mathilde. It's great to observe them in their natural habitat and to see how they interact with each other as a herd, how they look for the food they need and/or prefer in the jungle and how they scratch against each other at the river. So much better to see them happy like that. 😊🐘💚

Everything about visiting Chi and elephants was perfect. We stayed for 2 days with 2 small children and none of us wanted to leave. Elephants are so well taken care of and they love Chi so very much. The nature around is so beautiful. The food and everything was great. Kids can't wait to be back. If you are in Chiang Mai, visit Chi and his elephants or go trekking to the jungle. It will be a holiday you will never forget.

Thank you Petra. You're right we are lucky to have beautiful nature around us. Everyone is welcome to come and share some time with the Karen hill tribe, whether with the mahouts and their elephants or with the guide during a trekking, or with the family who take care of the camp where you can stay at night in the mountains nearby the village. Hopefully see you again this year.

Incredible day spent with Chi and his elephants! After searching high and low for an ethical and personal elephant experience in Chiang Mai, we couldn’t have asked for more. Chi showed us how he and his Karen tribe care for these retired elephants at their care facility in the hills of Chiang Mai. We walked through the jungle, helped prepare food, ate an incredible home-cooked meal for lunch and rounded the day off with a fun filled bath with the elephants in the river. All in all this trip has so far made our travels in Thailand. Thank you Chi and Marianne!!

You're welcome Kelsi! Note that since you visited us last year, the visitors don't bathe the elephants anymore since 1st of March 2019. You can now observe the elephants interact together in a more natural way at the river. We hope to see you again with your family. :)
