About
This is an amazing museum about Chiang Mai's history and culture. It opened in 1999. Their web sit is a bit hi-tech quirky.

Big and interesting museum
Sep 2021
Good way to get to know more about Chiang Mai's history in an entertaining manner which is easy to understand and follow along with. In the beginning we were worried that it was going to be mostly reading, but it was actually very smartly made with videos, sounds and settings.

This museum was the one I enjoyed most in Chiang Mai!
Aug 2020
This is huge - 15 rooms of exhibitions and also videos where you can choose between Thai or English sound, and it tells so much about very many different aspects of Chiang Mai's history but also Chiang Mai today. I will absolutely strongly recommend a visit to this museum!

Travel back through time of old city
Feb 2020
The building was very attractive, Colonial style, with wooden floor. The museum divided the permanent exhibitions into several time periods. Most are very interesting to learn about Chiang Mai history. There will always has temporary exhibition. Visitors can also buy some souvenirs or enjoy coffee/tea.

Best museum in the Old Town
Feb 2020
Although I note Lonely Planet prefer the Lamma Folk Museum opposite I thought this was the best of the three adjacent museums in the old city (I did not visit the Chiang Mai National Museum to the north), and the one to choose if time was limited. A large and well presented display on history and culture on two levels of an interesting building, and a gift/souvenir shop with stock a cut above the usual.

Very interesting museum

You can buy the package for 3 museums with the special price. It is very good. It is also very interesting if you are the group that has the children. Also if you would like to know about the deep detail of the history of Chiang Mai, this is the best place.

Very good place to get an idea of the history of Thailand.
May 2019
A mix of the modern multi media technology and old school realistic art, everything is laid out well. Nice, coll and relaxing place. Good descreptive and life like settings of village life etc. You get an idea of the history of the lives of Thai's and how Thailand come into being. A must visit situated right in the heart of Chiang Mai town.

Modern Museum With Multimedia, Lack Of Details
Jan 2020
The Chiang Mai City Arts And Cultural Centre was located at the Three Kings Monument. It cost 90 baht for an adult / 40 baht for a child to enter 1 museum, and 180 baht for an adult / 80 baht for a child for a combined ticket valid for 7 days to enter all 3 museums. There were several galleries with dioramas and multimedia, as well as description panels in Thai and English. However, very few artefacts and detailed explanations were provided in relation to arts and culture, which I found strange given the name of the museum.

Average museum, only if you have spare time and money
Nov 2019 • Solo
Museum itself was very average, and also seemed to be only half open (?). Permanent exhibition quite dull, but enjoyed the temporary photography exhibition. Lanna museum next door is much (!) better

Historical Museum not that interesting
Sep 2019
Limited number of exhibits and some basic archaeological dig....overall not worth a specific visit, but if you have time and also visiting the Arts Centre perhaps drop in.

A pleasant surprise ... glad we came
Sep 2019
First time visit to the two floor museum after multiple visits to Chiang Mai. Prior favorable 4-to-5 star reviews are on-target. Took us 1 hour but we came at the end of the day. Best to plan on 1.5-2 hours.

Pleasant findings: (a) Well organized (with literally low-key follow-the-arrow walking directions from exhibit hall-to-exhibit hall). (b) Effective first stop in understanding Chiang Mai history. (c) Air Conditioned exhibit areas. (d) Reasonable 90 baht pp entry fee (at time of our Sept 2019 visit) - note there are two directly adjacent sites for you to visit too (e) Well produced videos and lit exhibit descriptions in both english and thai, (f) Viewing at your own pace, (g) Easy to get to (within the Chiang Mai quadrangle)

Yes, we'd recommend visiting this place. Offers being a good rest stop too. And as a prior reviewer shared, good idea to come here early in your visit to get a "lay of the land" and history. Closes at 5 pm.
