We thoroughly enjoyed our Khantoke Dinner at Old Chiangmai Center. We didn't quite know what to expect but were so glad we went. The music, dancing, and setting made for evening we won't soon forget! The food was delicious - we had several refills of everything. We brought our own bottle of wine, which they opened for a fair corkage fee. It was exciting and unique to enjoy traditional meals on the floor, Lanna style. My wife and I were celebrating out honeymoon, and were given generous and thoughtful gifts. We cherish them and the memories we had at Old Chiangmai Cultural Center!

This well trod tourist site in Chiang Mai also houses a less well known event. On the first Sunday of each month there is a market in the different pavilions with stands reserved for retired people. There's plenty of varied food, a lot of textiles and handicrafts and the prices, in most cases, are very reasonable. Well worth spending a couple of hours there and getting a cheap meal into the bargain. The standholders are friendly and happy to talk. On the practical side, the market is open from 11 a.m to 5 p.m., there is free supervised parking and each of the pavilions is served by a ramp for wheelchair users. And one last thing - there is a pop band playing (very well) hits from the 60's and 70s.

We really enjoyed this dinner and show. The food was absolutely delicious and the staff came around often with refills. We enjoyed the dancing and learning some history of the area. We thought it was a great value for the money!

We really enjoyed the show - there are traditional dances and performances and the food is pretty good. Worth the money and time to check this out.

The performance is really that attracktive. Actually you may have a look at the youtube videos that showed several minutes of the performance before you go. There are only a few performers, probably three to four for each program.
The dinner...well if you call it a dinner rather than snacks, is just so so. For me, I would not recommend this dinner trip.

Messy organisation from the beginning to end. Food was good and could get refilled as much as you want.

Starting time was 7 and 8 for show. As people were late, the show started with staff still bringing food and passing around all the time. For those on time, having waitresses passing with food was annoying. They also spent the whole show approaching customers to charge for the drinks and to try to sell pictures that were taken during the dinner. Not very nice for those who want to actually enjoy the show. Felt too touristic and not really about the experience.

A bit sad that info on site says show lasts 75 minutes but we were out after 45 minutes.

Found it pricy for what you get and see

We heard about the Khantoke Dinner Show while on a different excursion in Chiang Mai, and decided to give it a try. We were able to book the day of, though availability was limited and we weren't able to get the provided transportation. The dinner spread was delicious and very filling - and even came with refills of any food item we were able to finish. We got there right when the doors opened which gave us plenty of time to eat, order drinks, and take pictures before the show started. The dancing itself was entertaining, though a few of the dances were less so. This was a relaxing way to spend an evening, but if you have to prioritize this over other excursions in the area, this wouldn't be my first choice. Nevertheless, a good evening!

I appreciated this experience very much; the people there put forth a great deal of effort to feed guests and put on the show. I think my experience was affected by the fact that I didn't know what to expect. They brought a platter of food which someone referred to as "appetizers." In addition, we each had a small bowl of rice. Since I thought more food was coming, I didn't eat too much from the platter, leaving room for more. They refilled the platter when it was empty, which I thought was nice. Once the evening was over, I learned that the platter was actually the dinner. If I had known to ask for clarification, I would have; it's not their fault. I agree with the reviewer who said it wasn't spiced up very much, and I don't like hot food, so you can imagine it may have been a wee bit bland. Maybe for the Western palate. On to the entertainment, the dancers were elaborately costumed and the performance was enjoyable to watch. As I said, I appreciated it, but it was not one of the highlights of my visit to Chiang Mai.

This third generation family run cultural centre provides a variety of costumed dancers, live music, and traditional cultural stories. The stage is the area within those seated on the floor. Unfortunately there was a constant movement of people and significant chattering making it difficult to follow the announcers explanations, and sometimes the music. The show was about two hours long during which a buffet style Khantoke dinner was served. Thai's world famous cuisine blends five fundamental tastes: sweet, spicy, sour, bitter, and salty enthusiastically using garlic, chillies, lime juice, lemon grass, coriander, galangal, palm sugar, and fish sauce. Perhaps the cuisine has been adjusted for the western palate as we found the food to be lacking in spices and flavour. As a large group we discovered near the end of the evening that we could have requested refills of the food platters. Perhaps we could have also requested a more authentic spice level.

First of all, sorry for the very late response. Our customer can request for the spice level as well as other special request but they have to contact us or tell their tour company to inform us at least 6 hours before they arrive. Because we need time to prepare the food seperate from ordinary. Sorry again for the inconvenience.

With a corporate team we visited the Old Chiangmai Cultural Center to have dinner and watch the show. Well organized, good food and (probably) authentic entertainment. For hard-liners: you can sit on the floor for dinner. Historically correct but an issue when you have European length legs and agility.... Great fun!!

Thank you for your valued review. We will continue improve our service. We are apologize for the inconvenience about sitting. Sitting on the floor is Thai style tradition and it will provide our customer more feeling about our culture.
