Vannee's Cooking Class is fun for the entire family!
Dec 2020
To be honest, I thought a thai cooking class would be fun but my
husband wasn't really into the idea. So naturally, I gave him no
choice and dragged him along. Turns out, he had more fun than me!
Vannee is like the feisty grandma that you learn so much from and have
a blast with. She and her husband picked us up, let us select our menu
of 4 dishes, and took us to the local market. While there, she
answered every question, explained what we were shopping for, and even
treated us to a tasty thai fried coconut cream dessert (which I'm
dreaming about). After shopping, we went back to her house where she
has a sweet set up for a cooking class on her veranda. We learned so
much, had so much fun, and got to interact with her husband on a
couple of dishes. Everything was prepared but we did all the
ingredient prepping and cooking. You will get to cook a personalized
portion of each dish yourself so it's sort of a group activity, sort
of not. You'll enjoy your meal and laugh all night, and Vannee will
send you home in a pre-paid taxi with her cookbook. I plan to get
great use out of it in the coming years and am grateful for the time
we got to spend with her and her husband.

The Best!
Mar 2020
What a great way to spend a day in Chiang Mai! Our group was taken on a tour of a local market. For me, the highlight was watching a coconut being made into coconut cream -- very cool and very unexpected. Then we were back at 'home' to prepare a four course meal. Our chef was knowledgeable and entertaining and she guided us in our cooking. Of course, the food was wonderful and my mango sticky rice was the best I had in Thailand. (Of course, I'll say the same thing about the other dishes as well: green chicken curry, stir-fried chicken with hot basil leaves, and pad thai. Excited to try all these dishes again at home.

Great fun!
Feb 2020 • Friends
Went with a group to the cooking class. The market trip before hand was really interesting, and a great experience. We all had tons of fun chopping and cooking the food, and had a great feast afterwards with no washing up! Highly recommend, thoroughly enjoyed.

absolute best experience for me
Jan 2020 • Friends
I met Vannee and her husband Mao(?) for the first time in January ‘19 and we instantly connected. I took 3 or 4 private cooking classes with them last year, and I absolutely loved everything about it so i decided to visit Chiang Mai with my brother this year and also attend on a private cooking class with Vannee and Mao again. If youre looking for the right place and people to learn from, about local veggies and fruits on the markets and also the way to prepare them them right so you can please the people around you and yourself with excellent thai dishes, Vannees cooking class is the place.

Highly recommended and hell yes, coming back for more!

A very good choice!
Jan 2020
There are lots of offers to pick from among cooking classes in Chiang Mai. We were two couples whom were lucky to pick Vannee´s place!
Pickup from hotel on time by Vannees husband. Start with a fantastic
trip to a very local big market for shopping of ingredients, but also
a very interesting explanation of thai vegetables, herbs and spices.
Then a short trip to Vannees place, quiet and clean. Ample space for
cooking, good instructions for making our choice of four dishes. The
result very good and tasting, and we received Vannees cookbook before
return to the hotel. Absolutely to be recommended!

Great experience
Dec 2019 • Couples
We were picked up at our hotel, which was inside the old city and immediately given a menu to choose the various options for the evening.

We went to the market and were shown many different types of vegetables, fruits, and fish.

They were only my wife and I in the class and we had the whole kitchen area to ourself. The chef was very informative and helpful as we prepared four different Thai dishes to enjoy.

It was a real treat for me because I’m not really a cook in any sense of the manner. When we were finished we had for delicious Thai dishes and they tasted wonderful.

It was a lot of fun and we would highly recommend it to those wanting to do something off the beaten path.

Fun experience with Thai cuisine
Nov 2019 • Friends
My husband and I attended this cooking class as part of our G Adventure tour of Thailand. We were group of 9, from UK, Ireland, USA, and Canada. As other travellers explained, we were picked up from hotel in an open vehicle to go to the market with Vannee to pick up the ingredients. She explained to us the use of various spices or veggies in various dishes. The market visit was really nice as we all bought a lot of stuff to take home. The choice of dishes was decided by Vannee, she just asked if there are people they do not eat certain things. My husband & I do not eat spicy food at all, when I expressed my wish to skip the chilli, Vannee did not like it, she said it is the chilli that brings out the flavour as if she insisted I used the chilli, but I replied that on the contrary to me, the chilli ruins the flavour as it is really painful & not tolerated by us, we are not used to it. I also did not want coconut milk and cream over my rice, she did not like it either. My husband does not eat sea food, so he ditched the shrimp and shrimp less soup. The recipes turned out nice in general. The recipe book I will donate to a friend who likes Thai cuisine.

Cooking Thai this is the place
Nov 2019 • Couples
If you're like me and don't stray out of your comfort zone when deciding what to make at home then this is the place for you. First Vannee takes you into the local market to not just pick up supplies for what you would like to make but also explains different parts of Thai cuisine that you may have not thought about. Next you are taken to the cooking area, which definitely give you the space needed to cook everything well. My wife turns out is better than me. Being from America I would have expected the portions to be some what small. Boy was I wrong, come with an empty stomach and possibly still have some left over. You will not be sorry for signing up for this class because now I will take the cook book that o got and will start making stuff at home.
