It was worth the struggle of figuring out how to post this because I wanted to add to what my daughter wrote about our spectacular experience with Chiang Mai Rock Climbing Adventures. While I didn’t climb, rappel or cave (I have a bad shoulder) I got to watch my daughter and three grandsons do it. I was impressed with the teaching they received and the emphasis on safety and double/triple checks. The guides were great about making this routine, expected and non-negotiable in a way the boys respected. The boys’ faces spoke volumes about how much fun they had. They came away from each day talking non-stop about how much fun it was and how cool the guides and the experiences were. As a grandma, it was wonderful to see them experience new physical accomplishments and new cultural experiences all wrapped into one. The youngest “freaked out” at the top of his first climb. He was unable mentally to be belayed back down. That was no problem for Add, he climbed up and brought him down. But with some lunch in him and encouragement from the guides he was back on a different climb just a couple of hours later and the following day made the rappel into the cave and the day after that the rappel from the via ferrata. To go from frozen with fear to rappelling hundreds of feet in three days really made him feel good about himself and instilled some great self-confidence. It’s not often you get to see your grandkids or kids make that kind of transformation in such a short period of time. He had some good self-talk going on but most of the credit goes to the guides and how well they handled everything about the youngest’s journey those three days. Thank you CMRCA!!! We hope to be back again some day.

My mom, my three boys, and I went on a three-day Lampang adventure with Chiang Mai Rock Climbing Adventures (also known as Progression Vertical/Progression Rock Climbing Gym) and had an amazing time! I cannot say enough good things about the experience we had. Our guides, Add and Tiffi, were professional and worked great with all of us, especially with the three boys. My boys are 15, 13, and 11 and their attitudes ranged from gung-ho bring it all on (the older two) to afraid of heights and mildly claustrophobic (the youngest). None of them had ever climbed outside of a gym before. The guides were adept at providing the challenge the older two wanted and the extra care and encouragement the youngest needed–this was true for the rock-climbing, rappelling, and caving portions of our three days. The rock climbing was incredible and the site was beautiful. The traditional Thai lunches were delicious. I’m not a rock climber but I imagine it would take months if not years before you would get bored here. The rappel into the cave was unique as far as experiences go. Two of my three boys said it was their favorite experience of our entire two weeks in Thailand. The cave itself was fun to explore and our guides gave us a great tour of it and the thousand year old pictographs we saw that day. The local markets were a hit with all of us. It was good to see a very different “grocery store” and all of us ventured to try some new foods (couldn’t convince anyone on insects though.) The climb of the via Ferrata was cool and one of our amazing guides, Tiffi, who knows everything about living in the mountains in Northern Thailand, crushed a wasp nest with his bare hands–well he had a handkerchief. The rappel down from that climb had an amazing view. We also did a farm stay on our three-day trip and that was incredible as well. We got a tour of the farm and all the produce as well as got to help cook a traditional meal. The guides also helped us learn some Thai and Karen words. Pum and the admin team were wonderful and easy to work with when making all of these plans. They were willing to let us customize the trip to accommodate my mom being able to watch all the activities and yet still sleep in a nice bed in an A/C hotel room while we slept at the farm. They gave lots of great advice on other things to do in Chiang Mai and helped arrange some other great excursions. My 15 yo had this to say “The guides were fun, helpful, gave lots of good advice and overall made the experience way better than you would expect. It had a good variety of easier-level climbs. The sites were really cool. The food was really good at the restaurants.” My 13 yo and 11 had this word salad when I asked them what they had to say about the 3 day Lampang adventure “It was amazing. It was really great and really beautiful. Great scenery. Climbing wall was awesome, lots of routes. Everyone was really friendly there and everyone was really nice. I would definitely do again. Ad and Tiffi were really good guides and nice and really helpful. Good climbers. The belaying was ultimate.” (Last one was said by my youngest). We also spent time at the outdoor artificial wall and had lots of fun interacting with the staff, owners and other customers. It had a very encouraging vibe with everyone rooting for folks on the bouldering wall regardless of the difficulty of the challenge they were trying to overcome. There were several top routes and lead climbs and right after we left they were going to start construction on more wall space. The gym has a restaurant and its food was delicious as well! We highly recommend this place!

My sister and I went on the one day lampang adventure and had an amazing time! Our guide, Gee was super friendly and encouraging but always made sure we felt safe on the rock too. The wee cafe where we stopped off to collect lunch was really cool too and the food was delicious. Definitely have your camera or phone at the ready - the rock itself is just incredible looking. Pick-up was really close to our hostel, pretty central and inside the old town of Chiang Mai. It was a bit of an early start but totally worth it to get as much time on the rock as possible. It was my first experience climbing outside a gym and I couldn't have asked for a better introduction!

To begin, the process for booking a trip with CMRCA was extremely easy and they were fairly flexible with dates. We booked our excursion within a week of visiting Chiang Mai and we had absolutely no issues. Second, the excursion was incredible! When we told them about the levels we climbed, they matched the routes perfectly. Transportation was taken care of as part of our package, and the same goes for lunch/water. The ride was two hours, but it was beautiful and we got to stop for a bathroom break and snacks. The food we had for lunch was also delicious and filling too! Last but not least, Gee (our tour guide) was phenomenal. He was fun to be around and had an insane amount of rock climbing knowledge. In fact, when we returned to the gym, he stayed and talked to us about how we could improve and the strategy to do so. He also let us ask a million questions. Thank you CMRCA and Gee for such a great time! It was worth every penny!

Excellent rock climbing. Beginner friendly and also suitable for more advanced climbers. Rigorous safety standards and friendly guides. A great way to view Chiang Mai forests from above!
