I went to Chiang Mai many times but had never been to Studio Naenna before. Since I've got some interested in Indigo I found this studio in website and been there last time that I went to Chiang Mai. A well- built Thai house style place peacefully among trees,it was very relaxing atmosphere around! Some Fa-Rung(whom a foreigner for Thai)appears but speak with Thai language fluently, how impressed! The overall area of studio is rather small. It was nice to meet with friendly lecturer and some cute oldy who concentrated on weaving job. Unfortunately for me that I didn't get in the right time so I didn't have chance to see Indigo dying process. If you are interested their products are sold here at studio and also at the shop at Nimman Road. They also have workshop for you to attend.

I've been to many fine textile shops but Studio Naenna is exceptional. Having stumbled open the leafy entrance tucked away at the end of Soi 1 off Nimmen. beyond other art galleries and shops, I found "Adorn" a pleasant surprise. Staff were very welcoming and offered me a seat outside to cool off from the heat. The gowns are to die for and I wish I picked up something for my boyfriend in addition to the pink and white silk scarf I purchased for myself... worth every penny to support the weavers who put their hearts into their work people don't appreciate enough anymore! I'm told they'll have online orders available soon.

My visit was in November 2015.
We arrived at Studio Naenna shortly after breakfast - just in time to see the studio coming alive. We were greeted at the gate by Lamorna Cheesman, studio manager and designer. The studio is located in a traditional Thai house on a big property at the end of a narrow winding road. Lamorna took us to the back of the house where their indigo plantation grows. She explained how they make the indigo paste and then took us to the other side of the house where the indigo vats are located. We were just in time to see a dying session in progress. Once inside the cool of the house, Lamorna introduced us to ikat dying and weaving.
I loved every minute of our visit to Studio Naenna. Lamorna was an excellent and most gracious tour guide. My only regret was that my visit did not coincide with one of the studio’s regular indigo workshops. I will just have to go back for that someday…
I wrote a more detailed post about my visit which can be viewed on The Fabric Thread blog.

The owner Lamona volunteered to pick us up at our hotel and take us to her studio in the hills above the city. What a delightful treat our visit turned out to be. Lamona, a red haired British accente - yet fluent in Thai - c gave us a tour of the dyeing area, a demonstration of the weaving, and a walk into the woods to show us where some of the natural dyes come from. She has a very interesting story to tell about her life and her studio. I could have spents hours longer. It was difficult to select what to buy, everytthing is so beautiful. Please take some time during your visit it Chiang Mai to visit her studio or her store in town. Thank you Lamona.

Our tour company booked this experience for us and we had a fun and informative morning! We were treated to a very interesting talk about the local textile craft. How dyes are made, fabrics died and woven. We were then given a lesson on tie dying using natural indigo. While my husband and I both had the traditional camp experience of tie dying this was far far more than that! We walked away with some lovely creations of our own making and we were able to purchase some exquisite locally made items. Highly recommend if you are looking for a different activity. Good for families too.

One of the best finds in the city. Amazingly delicate and fine silk and cotton products, all tastefully designed and lovingly made, integrating the traditional dyes and patterns with the contemporary taste that westerners would appreciate.

For those of you who are interested in traditional handicrafts, natural dies, hand weaving, and glorious silks, this is worth leaving the beaten track of Chiang Mai to visit. Call ahead of time to make an appointment if you want to be sure to have a detailed explanation of the treasures you will find there. If you are in Chiang Mai for more than a few days you might also be able to attend a course on natural fabric colouring, or weaving. But however briefly you are there, you are bound to find some wonderful gifts, scarves, shawls, silken jackets and bags before you leave. This is a veritable treasure trove!

The textiles at this place are unbelievably beautiful. The lady who works there was very attentive and super friendly. The prices are higher than those you typically see in SEA but the quality is among the highest I've seen and the designs are spectacular. And, considering how long it takes to weave a single piece (months), I have no problem paying more than I've become used to. I also visited the weaving workshop just outside the city and it was well worth the (short) trip - I learned a lot and the location is beautiful and relaxed. I wish I'd had time to take one of their workshops.

I went to see the studio I had heard so much about, and i was really impressed. Mother and daughter have created a great workshop. You can see the indigo vats and the people weaving. You can visit the shop with some of the most beautiful hand-made textiles ever seen! I got plenty of explanation and information. This was just a private visit, I didn't have a time to do a complete arranged tour and there were no workshops at the time. If I had been able, I certainly would have done a workshop.
