Wonderful and ethical elephant rescue center. There is no riding and no painting or anything exploitative like that. Our guide (Sak) was the perfect mix of funny and informative and I would definitely recommend doing the full day trip in order to do the rafting as well. The waterfall "trek" was the only slightly underwhelming bit but it was still in a really pretty area.

My friend and I spent 3 weeks in Thailand and visited 3 separate elephant sanctuaries. This one was by far the best!! Ford, our tour guide, spoke very good English and was very knowledgeable, friendly, helpful, and happy. All of the elephants are extremely well taken care of and loved by the people who work with them. Each of the 7 elephants there were all a part of the same family and interacted with each other in a way that was unforgettable. They love each other and it’s obvious they are happy and well taken care of. We learned about their habitat, behavior, health, anatomy, communication, personalities, etc. The whole experience was very thorough and enriching. Watching the 6 month old baby play and romp around was absolutely magical. We were able to feed them, administer medicine balls to them which we also made from vines, rice, bananas, tamarind, etc., trek through the forest with them, play and bathe them in the water, and learn about the facilities and the conservation of the species. It was the most well-rounded sanctuary we visited, and every review on here should be 5 stars. Lunch was delicious and water was also provided! I recommend bringing a swim suit, towel, hiking shoes, change of clothes (you get quite dirty), bug spray, and your own water bottle (I don’t know why others wouldn’t think of this), and flip flops for the best experience. This was an amazing time! Thank you so much!

Bamboo Elephant Family care is a decent organisation which i’d highly recommend.
The price is significantly lower than the others at 1300 baht per person for a half day session + drive 1h from CM to location.
Our tour guide Ford was very kind, and educated us on many aspects of their elephants. It seemed like the elephants are treated well and enjoy their ‘fans’.
Again, recommended to all!

We had a wonderful time with Bamboo Elephant family care! We had originally signed up for a half day elephant camp trip, but as the ‘half’ day drew to an end, we realised we weren’t ready to say goodbye yet to the lovely day we were having and extended it to full day tour. Great call! The hike was superb and the waterfall it led to was divine. The rafting trip was short but fun, with just enough pace to set the adrenaline pumping a bit, but not so much to make us worry (a novice, non-swimmer pair of adults with a 11 year know it all).
Our guide Tod was amazing! Superbly knowledgeable and effortlessly funny, he brought the entire group together and ensured that all of us were having a great time. The hike could be an issue if it has rained recently, and I won’t recommend it for younger kids.. say under 8, or maybe 7.
We had arranged for a private transfer on a songthaew (I sometimes feel a bit queasy in closed AC vans), which the Bamboo tour guys were gracious enough to arrange for. Our driver Sky was unbelievably thoughtful to needs we hadn’t even anticipated. Once he merely glanced back from the rear window that our son had laid his head down, he promptly stopped the car and offered us a pillow. There were many such kind wordless gestures and they left me humbled.
The elephant camp was great fun! There was a young 3 year old baby as well and he was in the process of being trained. We were told and could see that the way he’s being trained is through positive reinforcement- when he follows the command he gets a banana :)
Highly recommended.

This was the highlight of our trip to Thailand. It exceeded all my expectations. We started the day going to the Elephant Sanctuary where we learned a bunch of things about elephants, we fed them, we prepared and gave them vitamin balls and then we washed them in the water. What these people are doing is absolutely fantastic. The elephants live such happy life there and they love being around people. We were extremely lucky to also see a 14 days old baby elephant which was simply adorable. I have never seen elephants outside a zoo and it was an amazing experience. They are incredible animals and during this tour you really get to be there with them, interact with them and get to know things about how they live (spoiler alert - you even learn how to distinguish between different elephants' poop).
After the elephant sanctuary Sak, our guide (who is fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable) took us to have a nice lunch somewhere close to the jungle and then we hiked for about one hour to a gorgeous waterfall. Afterwards we went rafting on the river which was super fun. We saw amazing landscapes, more elephants and we also had fun.
It was fantastic and I cannot thank you guys enough. If you are in Chiang Mai this is definitely what you have to do for a day. I can assure you it eill be one of the best day trips ever!

This was such an amazing experience. Our guide Mint was so friendly and very knowledgeable.
The elephants are so well looked after and are not forced to interact with us.
We also got to meet a 1 month old baby elephant who was so friendly and fun to play with!
Would definitely recommend this to anyone planning on visiting an elephant sanctuary in Chiang Mai
It isnt the biggest sanctuary and is fairly new which makes it good place to visit and help support the great work they are doing
They also have professional cameras and take great photos which they upload to facebook that day

We spent the afternoon of 2/16/20 playing with the 1 month old elephant Khon Thong. He wants to push you with his head, it is so playful and then when he is tired he runs to Mama for milk. He lies down in the grass and let's you touch his feet.
There are 7-9 elephants roaming 8 acres of hillside. The grandmother is 62y/o, very gentle.
I highly recommend this trip.

We are thrilled and happy to have visited this place. The team was awesome led by Khun Neat and other wonderful people. The elephants were cute particularly the 8 months old Khun Thong who played a lot with us. After having fun of preparing food, feeding, moving and bathing wonderful elephants.. we were offered a good vegetarian lunch.. we highly recommend this place..

The place has a good atmosphere. the elephants are treated nicely, no animal riding, but washing and swimming with the elephants instead. And feeding them with some sweet banana's brings you in close contact. These animals are not wild but they are treated well.

Really great experience with allot of interaction with the elephants! While doing the half-day tour, which consisted of 2 feeding sessions, making herbal medicine, doing a stroll and washing the elephants. While doing the activities our tour guide Sak, which spoke excellent and English, was making many pictures which were uploaded for free to their Facebook. Transport from and to Chiang Mai and lunch at the sanctuary were included. All in all a great experience:)

Hi! Is there any way to donate to your sanctuary? I visited prior to COVID and was very impressed that this sanctuary rescued elephants and employees refugees. I wanted to help out because I’m sure business has slowed due to the pandemic and I want to make sure all the good you do continues!

Just wondering how muddy it is and do your trainers get ruined? I only have one pair and don’t want them ruined for the rest of my trip.

Is this rafting suitable for children (8 year old), inexperienced or non-swimmer?
And how strenuous is the hike and any risk of wild animals/snakes in the forest?
Written December 3, 2018
Yes, they give you life jacket and they were very easy rapids. Mostly down clam waters.
