- burtonwellsComox, Canada13 contributionsFun and delicious experienceFabulous experience at the half day cooking class. We began the evening by learning about Thai ingredients and flavours and a tour of both the school’s herb garden and the local market selling spices and vegetables. Thai was our guide and teacher. He was interesting and informative and managed to help all 10 of us to make delicious Thai food. The school is very well organized and we were able to make 4 different recipes. We were able to choose from 3 different Pads, 3 different soups, and 5 different curries. We also made spring rolls. Everyone was able to select their own heat level and the school easily accommodated food allergies and vegetarian diets. At the end of the night, we each received a recipe book with instructions for all the delicious food we made. I strongly recommend this school. I’m sure all the teachers are great, but I really hope you get Thai!Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 18, 2023
- Sightseer063753511276 contributionsWorth the drive to the farm. What a great day out. We began with a trip to the market to see all the ingredients we would use too cook. Then drove 30 minutes out of town to the farm. Katie our chef was really helpful, encouraging and fun to learn from. She made us feel really welcome. With her help we made food that tasted great.Visited September 2023Traveled with familyWritten September 19, 2023
- SuztrisSarasota, Florida23 contributionsFun cooking class!I’ve taken a lot of cooking courses and this one was one of my favorites! It started with an explanation of the menu, a trip to the market to see the spices and a trip to the farm. We all cooked together! It was well run and the food was delicious!!Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 9, 2023
- Tessa B1 contributionAn amazing cooking school with amazing teacherI did this trip thinking it was nothing special. But I was completly wrong. You learn so much about thai cooking and the ingrediants that you use. From going to the local market, to seeing how they grow their food in their own farm. And of course how you bring all the ingrediants together in your maal. Gayle is an amazing host en she gives us so many great tips on how to cook lile a real thai local. At the and I had so much motivation to cook the thai recepies at home for my friends and familie. And with the cook book that you get you can easily do that. I had an amazing day and tasted some amazing food.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 23, 2023

Everything ran very smoothly, great teachers with good levels of English. I took the food I couldn't finish away with me. Yum!Visited September 2023Traveled soloWritten November 4, 2023

- Gregory C3 contributionsFantastic and Delicious TourOur experience with Asia Scenic Thai Cooking School was Wonderful. We.cam.away worh a better understanding and appreciation for the differing spices and how to balance them to one's own taste preference. Katie our instructor is a true professional. Katie's ability to interact with complete strangers, all coming from different countries and languages, and make us all feel very welcomed and comfortable was extraordinary. The food was delicious and abundant. Some of the best 4 hours we have thus spent on our global travels.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 9, 2023
- craigmT6299ETAmherst, Massachusetts4 contributionsA wonderful, multi-faceted experience! My wife and I signed up for the half-day cooking class. The day started in town, with a short walk from this old town location, to a nearby produce market. Then they drove us (about 9 of us) out to a "farm" where the class took place - a very nice environment. Gayle, our teacher, was fabulous (as was the intern shadowing her). They showed us many of the ingredients at the market, and also at the farm, where we sampled various items growing there and learned about them. We each made a stir fry dish, a curry dish, a soup, and a spring roll. We could choose what to include and how spicy to make things. Gayle had lots of great tips on Thai cooking as she walked us through each element. And of course, we got to eat everything we made! We highly recommend this adventure!Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 10, 2023
- GardenerrichSandown, United Kingdom248 contributionsA “Must” when in Chiang mai.Absolutely one of the best things we have done In Chiang Mai. Katie was our “head chef”, and she was fantastic, really interesting to listen too and very knowledgeable. We opted for the 3.5 hour lesson in Chiang Mai, where we went to a market to learn about the ingredients before getting back and cooking. Plenty of iced water/tea/coffee included, and you get a cook book at the end. Highly recommended 👍🏼Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 15, 2023
- Wayne W2 contributionsMemorable experienceWe visited the cooking class today, and chose the full day 7 course option. We really enjoyed the cooking experience at Asia Scenic Thai Cooking School. Our teachers Nune & Lee were very knowledgeable and lovely all throughout. We enjoyed our trip to the market and had a chance to purchase some fresh goods/souvenirs. The food was delicious and easy to make under their instructions, the whole class was very included. Had great fun and we would definitely recommend going there hungry as there’s a lot to eat! Would recommend to anyone in Chiang Mai as it includes pickup from your hotel in the package. There’s also a lot of photo opportunities & you even receive a free cooking book!Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 18, 2023

Had a really amazing time with our cooking class. Katie was our teacher, and she did an amazing job teaching everyone and creating a really friendly and welcoming atmosphere. There was a bit of confusion with orders (which food people had chosen to cook and what food was prepared) but she and her team quickly took care of it without an issue.
I did the farm experience, and it was gorgeous out there and we got a tour where we were told about the plants and got to eat some of the herbs from the garden. Also, when we had a break between some of the meals it was a really relaxing outdoor area to be in. Not sure if I'd recommend the full day farm trip as we were all full of food cooking the last two dishes which added time, so most people either didn't finish or took it home, but it gave me more time to chat with others and relax at the farm so I didn't mind.
I'm a solo traveller so it probably helps I had a really friendly group there with me but I thought, even if it wouldn't have been a super talkative lot, if I had a good book or podcast to listen to in breaks with the nature and amazing farm to explore/relax in it would have kept me entertained. Also get a cookbook to bring home, so that's a nice treat.
Recommend this for sure! Thanks Katie for a great class!

I attended the full day cooking class in town just yesterday and couldn’t wait to write a review.
I was picked up promptly at my hostel.
Once there you were put into specific groups for the location and duration of the class you booked.
The reason I chose this cooking school is because you could choose your own menu. I perused the menu online beforehand and knew what I wanted to cook. Whilst at the school they gave a clear explanation of the choices and specified if the meal was more salty, sweet or spicy or mixture.
My chef Katie, was professional, very knowledgeable, friendly and funny.
We were shown around the garden and informed of the ingredients we would use and why. Followed by a a short walk to the market. There we saw what other ingredients we would use and had time to look around by ourselves.
When we returned to the school we had a clear demonstration for the course we would make. We would then prepare it, cook it and eat it. Sooo much delicious food.😋
I ate at the table with my fellow cooks and we had time to get to know each other.
A lot was accomplished in the cooking class and you don’t feel rushed at all.
I tried Khaw Soi for the first time ever the day before. So for me it was a bonus to make it and it tasted exactly the same.
If you are looking for a value for money, authentic cooking experience, I would totally recommend enrolling on an Asia Scenic cooking class!

Thank you for a wonderful day of learning the ingredients and techniques of cooking Thai cuisine. The format for the class was excellent, providing an opportunity to cook (and eat) 5 dishes. Our instructor Da, guided us skillfully and demonstrated the techniques to prepare and enjoy our dishes. Pay the extra few bhat for the full day course and go out to the farm! The drive to the market and the farm enhanced the experience. All of the Asia Scenic instructors and provided excellent instruction in English.

Absolutely fantastic experience. We were collected on time and taken to a market used by the local Thai people. Here, our cooking instructor Da, took us around and explained about the various types of rice, noodles, produce and seasonings that we would be using in the class. We also had a short time to have a wander and ask questions. When we arrived at the farm, Da explained each menu option and we we each selected our dishes. We did the half day option, so only made 5 dishes. The garden is beautiful. Plenty of plants, paths, swinging hammocks, geese and more. Da walked us around the garden and explained about the herbs and seasonings that were growing and commonly used in Thai coming. She was great at giving us samples to smell or eat and answer our questions. The cooking part was extremely well organised and run at a good pace. My 10 and 15 year old girls had their own wok and cooking station and had plenty of help from Da, so they knew what to do. There was a 30 minute break to let the first two courses settle and have a wander around the garden and relax in the hammocks. The food was delicious and Da’s instruction was superb. At the end we were given a cookbook that included the recipes for all the dishes on the menu, plus useful pictures and info about herbs and seasonings. Da also gave us options for when we returned to our home country and it won’t be practical to use the authentic thing (eg because it need to boil for 5 hours to prepare it). I highly recommend this cooking course.

My husband and I tried this class based on the recommendations from another couple we met while Kayaking.
Indy was our teacher and she was so fun. She kept us laughing and engaged. She was really good about answering questions and helping everyone stay on track and getting done together.
We also really appreciated the fact that it was simple and straight forward. Not too many ingredients or instructions so it will be easy to replicate back home.
They were also super accommodating to everyone's food allergies, sensitivities, and preferences. From vegan to shell fish allergies they were able to switch it up and keep it tasting great.

Asia Scenic Thai cooking school is a great experience. They teach you about the natural ingredients, which comes from their own garden, the different levels of spiciness and what meats go best with each meal l, oh and how to eat the dish. It was such a great experience in the way in with they set up the environment, making it welcoming and inviting for everyone to interact naturally and organically. Our instructor Da was kind and helpful.

Thai our teacher was INCREDIBLE! The whole experience was amazing from start to end. My partner and I did the afternoon class and it was great to eat the dishes as we went along and we learnt a lot from their herb garden and local market.
We chose this class as it was one of the cheapest classes and we are so glad we did as it was exceptional. The attention to detail and quality of service made it worth every penny and so worth £18 each!
We made a total of 6 dishes including curry paste from scratch! We prepped everything ourselves and Thai made sure that we were all confident and happy with our dishes.
There were 7 of us in the class and we all received equal amounts of attention from Thai and nothing was missed.
The best cooking class we’ve done!

My wife booked us into a half-day cooking school. It was absolutely worth it, especially the pre-event tour at a nearby market to learn about the different Thai spices. "Da" was our leader and she was great and so we're her interns who assisted in all things.

I'm late to share but my partner and I LOVED this cooking class! We did the half day class back in January and we felt like it was perfect. The class was intimate, our instructor and aide were informative and funny, and we got to choose our own dish to make in each category and then eat it too. I highly recommend doing the class at the farm because they give you a tour of the things they grow to use in the cooking, on top of a tour at a local market.
On an even better note, I took what I learned (and the Asia Scenic cookbook) to make Pad Thai on my own at home! It was a success if I do say so myself.

Really wonderful experience! We were shown round the market and spices all shown to us and explained. Our teacher was Note and he was wonderful, answering questions and very clear in his instructions. We are vegetarian and they provided tofu and veggie alternatives to meat and were really good about making sure we had a vegetarian alternative to fish sauce and no chicken broths. We made lots of lovely food, I would recommend you skip breakfast as you start with you first dish around 10.30 and my gosh there’s a lot but all delicious!! Would recommend for couples, solo travellers and veggies!!

Are there gluten-free and dairy free options?
Written November 18, 2018
They’re very accommodating, so I don’t think you’ll have any problems. The dishes I made in the 1/2 day class didn’t contain any dairy - although make sure to ask for eggless tofu (white not yellow) if you don’t eat meat. I don’t think there was any gluten either as they use rice noodles but you’d need to ask them. There may be dairy or gluten in the spring roll wrappers as they’re store bought but you could just skip them.

Hi Laura, there was no dairy in the class as we cooked with homegrown veggies and herbs . There should gluten in the spring roll dough but it's up to you and you can choose not to add prawns or chicken if there is gluten in them.

I need advice on choosing a half day or full day at the cooking school. I'd prefer a full day because I love to cook, but my companion probably wouldn't. I could make her do it LOL, but wondering about the major differences before I do.
Written January 13, 2017
Full day was definitely worth it. We went to the farm and the amount of food you make definitely requires a bit of relaxation to let the stomach rest. I also think the full day class lets you get to know the rest of your group on a much more personal level. You don't feel rushed and the food is all amazing. Well organized class, so the amount of time you are away from the city doesn't really seem too long.

How much is it per person for the full day at the farm, the 7 dish cookery class? Thanks :)

1200 per person and yes the farm is much better then in the city as you get the full experience
