    Not ethical for the animals
Although this is a great zoo to go round on the truck at night we didn’t realise it was not ethical as our hotel didn’t not tell us. The tiger show especially was hard to watch as the tigers were clearly scared of the keepers and we then regret going. There is hardly anywhere to get food. The water show is okay and it’s nice to see so many animals but a lot of the pens were really small and when you drive past they shine a light in the animals faces. Not sure I would recommend giving money to a organisation like this if I knew before I went. The elephant and bear were also trained to wave at us which is clearly not natural.

The running route is completely ok and sufficient.
We only booked the "running circuit" and that was completely fine. Animal shows are a no-go for us. We were mostly alone on the path until a "terror of all animals" family came along. Wow, how disrespectful can you be to animals. As if the zoo situation wasn't stupid enough.

Even though I visited in the dark, a daytime visit would still be worthwhile.
The night safari was fantastic, with giraffes and zebras coming up to the bus to say hello, and the tiger performance was really amazing. Afterwards, it was simple to take a tuk tuk back into town. It is advised to have dinner at the buffet restaurant located in the parking lot before entering the park, as there aren't many food alternatives there.

For an ok afternoon, if you’ve run out of things to do
It wasn’t that much worse than other zoos, despite what some of the other reviews claim. You can walk around and see the animals at your own pace if you prefer. If you go on the little buses you get to see the bigger more exotic animals, be advised the volume from the speakers from the tour guide is extremely loud, so I would not recommend it to babies or really young children. And perhaps avoid the tiger show, it’s crazy how they get big cats to obey like dogs, that’s what my party told me, but I also avoided it because volume was way too loud for a baby. Overall, if you’ve done all the other tourists things in Chiang Mai and is desperate for one more, sure it’s not the worst time you’ll have. But if you don’t go, you wouldn’t have missed anything.

I am not sure if this was worth it.  At THB 800.00 for an adult plus an extra THB 100.00 for the jaguar trail (not sure about children), it was quite pricey. This is for foreigners. December 2021. The entrance fee allows you to see and do everything apart from the jaguar trail as mentioned above.  I did the thirty minute safari tram which was nice.  There are two different routes I think so you can do one or both.  I really enjoyed this.  There were a lot of animals and it was nice to see them quite free and not enclosed in cages.  There were zebras, lions and a hyena to name a few.  The trams come every five minutes or so.  The driver provides a narration of the wildlife.  The narration is in Thai but there is an English speaking one too which is less frequent.  I got bored waiting and went on the Thai speaking one!  There are loads of eateries including stalls selling street food and the usual souvenir shops!  I didn't bother with the shows as I hate to see animals performing.  I would say check online prior to coming with regards to show schedules and timings so you can plan your visit accordingly.  Busy with a nice atmosphere.  The area can get a bit chilly especially when you are doing the safari tram so take a light throw.  If like me you get bitten by anything and everything, then wear deet and cover up!  I could feel bugs around me!  To come from town, get a Tuk Tuk but bargain.  I eventually paid THB 300.00 return plus the driver waited just over an hour whilst I visited.  The drive is about thirty minutes each way.  How long you stay is really up to you.  If you want to see everything and get a bite to eat then you need a few hours at the very least.  I am a solo traveller.  If your a family, it will cost quite a bit.  Not sure if it is worth the cost.  Staff are pleasant and friendly and the grounds are well signposted.

The safari is well organised with large open sided buses taking the trip through the extensive night zoo. Children will love it. African animals are of course particularly well represented and the various species of gazelles and deer are present in large numbers. The latter have free rein of the area, controlled only by cattle grids. The big cats - lions, tigers and even a siamese lion), hippos and rhinos seem less happy behind fences and ditches. In spite of the poor english of the guide we still enjoyed the two bus trips lasting around 45 minutes. None of the animals appeared in anyway distressed by the buses and the floodlights point at them. As with any zoo the question posed is are we looking at the animals or are they looking at us?

We came to the night safari as a birthday present for our youngest and she really enjoyed it.

When you arrive, they will give you a schedule to see all of the shows and take the tram if you decide to do the tram. The tram was definitely a highlight, so even though it's more expensive, it's worth it.

The adults in our group definitely felt mixed about the trained tiger show. The tigers do tricks, but are never forced or coerced. They are given lots of treats as they do their show and the handlers seem to have a good patient relationship with them. If you are against something like this, the Night Safari is not for you.

We took the tram last, so it was dark by the time we were on the tram, but all the animals were pretty active. Our kids got to pet the giraffe and we saw a lot of animals that we don't see in American zoos. The tram is offered in both Thai and English, so we learned quite a bit about more regional animals.

The announcements, show music and speakers can be quite loud. Especially when it's in a language you don't know, it can feel very overwhelming. If you have a kiddo that gets overwhelmed by loud noises, take this into consideration. Because being there at night overlaps with dinner time, make sure to eat beforehand or bring a lot of snacks. There is some food but it's a limited selection.

We visited about 9 years ago and this place was just okay. We returned only to bring our children and the whole place has been reinvented. It is organized and friendly now. It is organized as they give you a stamp ticket letting you know where to go and when to go. The shows are actually now entertaining too. Food prices are usually higher at attractions but it wasn’t necessarily here at all and the food quality was actually pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised by new experience and would recommend it for any group of people even those with young children. Don’t come as late as we did or you might miss many attractions.

You drive in open-sided vehicles (trailer + trailer) through the park past animal enclosures with all kinds of predators and sacrificial animals from Asia and Africa. Often you don't see much of the animals, but the darkness creates a certain tension. If necessary, LED headlights are switched on on the side, which must really blind the animals. The whole thing leaves you with mixed feelings and a hole in your wallet. It's not really convincing. It's certainly exciting for children. At almost 1000 baht per person, it's one of the most expensive events in the country, and for normal Thais it's only feasible if a company sponsors discounts. Sacrificial animals and predators are directly opposite each other, separated only by the road. The diesel engines stink unfiltered into the park's natural surroundings.

The worst parts were the tiger show and tiger exhibition. In the tiger show the music was too loud disturbing both human and animals. The MC was extremely terrible. Her voice was very loud and incomprehensible. We could not make any sense what she was saying. It could have been much better if she kept quiet. The way all tigers were treated at the tiger show was unkind. They were lured to jump by over hanging chicken bones. The tiger exhibition rooms were poorly maintained and unsupervised. All visitors were allowed to yell and make noise as they please. Some of them used flash camera. There was totally no oversight.
Toilets were very dirty although there was a sign that they were being cleaned hourly. In fact it looked like they have not been cleaned for the whole day. Eva, the super star tiger has been overly promoted. In fact visitors can hardly even have glimpse of her.
The better parts were Savanna Safari and Predator Prowl where you can see wildlife in a short distance.

The night predators show had no visible human intervention and displayed the animals parading across the stage in search of food. They did not have to peform any tricks to receive the food they found.
The lions and tigers performed movements and behaviours that would be expected in the wild (i.e. they were not required to jump through burning hoops). The trainers were patient with the animals and did not threaten them to perform. One tiger refused to roll over on command and the trainer simply requested the role on 3 to 4 occasions before the Tiger rolled over. The tram travelling through the night Safari area was excellent and animals approached the tram without enticement or fear.
The ticket reception highlights your ticket as to the relavant timing of each show or attraction during your visit. The times can be varied. We wanted time to walk the Jaguar trail during daylight hours and asked for different times to accommodate this walk. They only permit one use of each tram or show. We would highly recommend this attraction when visiting Chiang Mai.

They charge tourists more than twice what Thai citizens pay, yet they don't bother to have proper English translation for any of the attractions.
The schedule is very tight and we were rushed from one show to another.
The shows were very disappointing and the animals seemed dozed.
Definitely not a must-have experience.

Save money and choose Chiang Mai Zoo. It is only $7.50 AUD for the zoo plus extra for other attractions and add ons, you pay at the gate. The enclosures are clean and decent. The animals are not made to perform, they appear to be well treated.

Was so bad that I left after 20minutes in (first safari bus run) skipping the remaining hours of “entertaining” program.

Simply not worth the time and money.

This experience was a terrible ending of otherwise beautiful day in Chiang Mai.
