Impressive monument
Aug 2019
The Chinatown Gate stood firmly in the middle of a huge roundabout at the entrance of Yaowarat Road (if you come from the direction of Hua Lamphong station), lit up by perhaps a 1000 watts of flood lights, as though the management was afraid that tourists would miss out such an imposing structure.

Welcome to Chinatown
Jan 2020
An iconic landmark at the entrance to Chinatown. A beautiful gate at the end of Yaowarat road. It is probably not worth going the extra mile for, but still nice if youa are near. Easily combined with Wat Trai Mit - the temple with the big golden buddha just down the street. Take the MRT so Hua Lamphong and walk about 1km to get to the gate passing the temple on the way

Dragon's head
Dec 2018 • Solo
This roundabout named after Odeon cinema (demolished in the 1980s) is at the head of Yaowarat the road that goes right across Chinatown its path said to resemble a dragon's curvy body.

In 1999 a gate was built here to celebrate king Bhumibol's 72nd birthday. It serves to show the loyalty of the Thain Chinese to the ruling monarchy, but also to revitalize old Chinatown as a tourist attraction. Note the inscriptions in both Thai and Chinese to honor the king. The white jade lions and rabit were added later. They were gifts of the Chinese government at the occasion of later birthdays of the king who was born in the year of the rabbit.

Ornate entrance to Chinatown
May 2018 • Family
This gate in Chinatown is a grand entrance to the historic area of Bangkok. The ornament is very impressive. It is a short walk from the Hua Lamphong MRT station.

Ok just for a picture or two
Mar 2018 • Couples
Nothing special here but the Chinese gate in the middle of the roundabout. It indicates the entry of Chinatown and leads directly to Yaowarat Road. Just make one or two pictures and move on.

Beautiful arch
Jan 2018 • Couples
Bangkok has so many great little arches and temples across the city. This gem is close to Chinatown and The Golden Buddha. Be sure to add it to your walking journey.

Symbolic Arch/Gate to Bangkok's Chinatown
Aug 2017 • Family
With all chinatowns in the world there will be always an arch (as they call in Bangkok, a gate) to symbolise the entrance to Chinatown. Just a quick stop to snap a photo or two
