- Robert Bernard1 contributionAnnoying way to purchase tokens.Whenever we go to the mrt there are sometimes lineups at the machine to get tokens. Each rider has to purchase their own token separately. So if you have a group of 4 people all going to the same place, it takes 4 times as long as it should as there are no places to select how many riders in your trip. This creates huge lines at sometimes throughout the week. Can't believe this has not been remedied yet! Very simple fix!Visited January 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten January 18, 2020

We were out of town in Lat Krabang and linked into the MRT from the Airport train at Makkasan walking to Phetchaburi station. As we were only here for one day before flying home we wanted to see the Royal Palace again so it’s the cheapest and easiest way into the city. Cheap, cheerful and efficient!I used this a few times only. I mainly used the BTS. The MRT services more local areas and some tourist attractions. Appears to be busier than the BTS as more locals use it! Air conditioning is not as cold! Cheap to use and interchange should you also need to use the BTS. Staff are helpful and the self - service ticket machines are easy to use. Stations are clean and big. Follow the signs as there are many entrances / exits. The ticket mainly appears to be a token the size of a coin which is easy to loose so be careful! I just got single journey tickets. Not sure if you can get daily or multiple. You cannot purchase a combination ticket MRT / BTS. Totally separate. Average single journey is around THB 30.00. Download an application from google play which will help you plan your journey and manage timings. Safe to use. You cannot eat or drink in stations or on trains. At the time of C-19, masks must be worn. Taxis in Bangkok are awful. Expensive and drivers don't know the roads well. This is a cheap and cheerful way to commute around. Efficient and timely.ÂVisited January 2022Traveled soloWritten January 14, 2022

We were going out to the JJ weekend market which is quite away out of the center and we noticed there were two MRT stations right there.
This system was clean, modern, quicker than driving and very inexpensive. When you come in there are vending machines for ride tokens in English. The staff were very helpful and the signage is excellent. We got to our destination quite easily and would definitely use the system again and recommend it to others.

The Bangkok Metro system is a well designed and a safe form of transport. Clear oral announcements are repeated in English. The signage is clear and the automated ticket machines are easy to use. There are ticket offices in every station if you are not confident in using the machines. Good queuing systems operate at busy times. It is only a pity that it does not cover more of the city.

We had an MRT station 2 min from our hotel and used it to get everywhere. It's very easy, convenient and cheap as you only pay for as far as you go, just pick you direction and stop. Ticket machines offer English and some terminals have tellers.

hi, even tourist age above 60 can purchase senior price ticket?
J Ng

I suppose the question refers to the senior passenger fare for Bangkok MRT. Yes, whether a local or foreigner, aged 60 and above, can buy an elder ticket with 50% discount. I would advise you to bring along your passport in case you are asked to prove your age. My wife and I have travelled on MRT several times by means of elder tickets. My wife was asked for document to prove her age once and I have never been asked. My wife took this approach as a compliment rather than a query. Therefore, I suggest those senior ladies, who spend a fortune on keeping their young look, think twice if it is advisable to give "constructive notice" of their age for a token concession. BIG SMILE !

From nana station how will I get to makasan station to get to the airport. Alternatively what’s the best way without using a taxi as traffic I hear us really legendary

There is no MRT from Nana, I'm afraid. Considering you posted a question about MRT.
Your options are:
-BTS Sukhumvit Line to Phaya Thai, change there to Airport Rail Link;
or:
-BTS BTS Sukhumvit Line to Asoke, change there to Airport Rail Link.
The latter will need you walking a bit to the ARL, as the stations are not directly next to each other.
So if I where you, I'd go for option one. Also, Phaya Thai is the first stop of ARL. Which can be advantage for getting seats instead of standing. ARL is notorious for overcrowding during rush hour.
Depending on what time you're leaving, a taxi can be an option. But it's still about 45-60 minutes by car.

You have to travel in a big " C" direction and change trains and lines and involving walking between connections as the distance in a direct line is around 1km a cab (always get a price first) should only be around 100 bhat train for two would cost about 40 bhat

Hallo, kan je vanuit iedere wijk opstappen op de MRT of BTS?
Dit omdat ik twijfel tussen een hotel in Sukhumvit en Banglamphu..

Hi, when you leave the MRT or BTS, you have to drop the token into the turnstile which means you need to get another one to do another journey
Google the hotel name then see what station is closer to it.

For all trips within Thailand from Don or Swampy airports there are several ways to travel. The easiest and most expensive is to take a Taxi from the airport. The next is to take MRT and a Train and a Bus. I dont recommend TukTuk or Songthaew unless it is a very short distance and you know where you are going (scammers) - if you have google maps on smartphone show them and they will know to go straight there.
Besides researching on the net beforehand of course - contact the Hotel you are staying at and asking them. At the airport look for the Thailand Tourist Authority Counter - they speak English and will help with advice.
Be aware that if you ask a Thai a question they will either walk away or try to answer - whether they know or not (loss of face issue). Always get 2-3 pieces of advice when asking general public people where to go. I dont anymore - even the Thai wife gets incorrect information.
By the way - trains are OK - but some local trip buses are non-aircon and very very hot. OK for the locals, but be careful. For the longer trips they are usually air-con and usually working. When at a local bus stop and an old clunker shows up, sometimes the next bus can be one with air-con, so sometimes best to just wait.
