The area
Address
Neighborhood: Thong Lor & Ekamai
Known as Bangkok’s hippest neighbourhood, Thong Lor and Ekamai is where the city's well-dressed and well-heeled spend their nights sipping cocktails in hidden speakeasies and posh restaurants. Live it up in one of Thong Lor's extravagant clubs and be prepared to brush shoulders with a Thai celebrity or two. While great for a night out, the area is nothing short of interesting during the daytime, either. Expect a mix of savvy coffee shops, pop-up bars and loads of vintage stores, brought to you by hip locals with eyes for design.

Not sure why this place is popular. Huge tourist/foreigner trap. Thai locals do not go here.

Here's the run down:
1) Disgustingly dirty. Not a place I would want to eat a meal. Tables nasty. Cockroaches everywhere.
2) Expensive. For the value it is quite a bit more expensive than most options in BKK.
3) The design of the place is terrible. The stalls are in a circle and the seats are in the middle. Which is basically like a ring of ovens around you. It is super hot and uncomfortable compared to other markets in BKK.
4) Hard to find a table/overcrowded. The tables are jammed together and you will be 100% breathing in your neighbors cigarette smoke.
5) They wouldn't let me in because I bought a water just before coming in at 711. SERIOUSLY? This was so annoying. I am coming in to spend 600 baht on some crappy Indian food and you won't let me in because of a water bottle? Even worse, once in, they hunt you down. I grabbed my water I hid in my bag to take a drink and the lady came running over to me yelling at me. 1000 baht fine! Seriously god...
6) The food I had was absolutely awful. Now I am sure there is some good food there, but my experience was terrible. The Indian restaurant (in back left) was terrible Indian (first time having bad Indian), and the guy cheated us on our bill (on purpose..I think he does it a lot, as most foreigners there are drunk and don't pay attention).

Any positives? Variety of food I suppose. But this is BKK, you can get great international food everywhere downtown.

W Market is basically an outdoor food court catering to those that live nearby. Fancier with more international options than a normal purely Thai place but more casual and far cheaper than say The Commons in Thonglor which is the indoor more upscale version.

So people who are complaining it is full of farangs are seemingly missing the point that this is a neighborhood place and they live in the neighborhood. Sort of like going into a Chinatown and complaining its full of Chinese...

The food options are good, some stalls are better than others, but that is always the case. Drink options are diverse including even craft beer.

So if you want to experience Bangkok not as a tourist, not as a local, but as how many expats live, come here.

Not a market at all, just a very expensive food court, with no atmosphere whatsoever!!!! Beers is well overpriced, the clients are all ageing expats with young Thai girls or bewildered tourists and travellers looking for a market, save yourself the hassle and go elsewhere

If you fancy eating it then im pretty sure you will find it here on one of the stands. I had the Jamaican, others in the group had Greek, and Thai. Something you have to experience for yourself.

This place has such a variety of meals on offer, everyone will find something they like. Our table ranged from Japanese to Jamaica food with American, Thai and Italian thrown in as well.
A drinks server will come to your table and take an order. For food you go up to the different counters to order.
Some places take payment when ordering, others at the table when they serve the food.
There is some cover from light rain, but if it's heavy rain I suggest you go else where.

It was more like a place to eat, drink and chill. Not exactly a market. However, there were a lot of food choices but mostly not local.

Ate there three times on our recent vacation. Great selection. You could eat there every night and probably go a year before repeating a meal. Food/drink runners were all really fast and friendly. Great atmosphere.

This is a hidden market if you don't know where it is.
There is an international mix of food at low cost.
There is also a mix of bars.

When you arrive the bar staff will try to sit you near their bar or you can look for food and choose own seat.

There is no rush and you can pay for food when ordering or when it arrives at your table.
There is a relaxed feel and while food can be prepared Quick, you may need to wait when busy. But you can wait lo get in a restaurant.

Not sure why this is currently listed as W Market, it's definitely called W District. For the last two years, I lived just down the street from this outdoors food court-cum-nightlife spot, and it was my go-to for hanging out with friends in the area. There must be at least 20 little food spots to get good grub from (I personally preferred the pizza place, the banh mi shop, and indian restaurant), and plenty of places serving reasonably priced beers, spirits and mixed drinks. This is in no way a tourist destination, but it is a great place to hang out, and caters primarily to an upper-middle class crowd, but all are certainly welcome.

It's approximately a five-ish min walk southeast of Phra Khanong BTS station.
