Being a fan of the film In the Mood for Love by Wong Kar Wai, I made sure to research on the filming locations that I can visit on my travels. Luckily, I had the chance to visit this place when I went to Bangkok last month. The place is old and abandoned but is still reminiscent of the Old Bangkok. Photos are not allowed to be taken but I managed to take a few since there was no guard watching. It is better to take photos from the other side (opposite where I took the photos) though. I suggest that you visit during daytime to see the beauty of the building. Get a cab or book a Grab so that you can directly get to the place.

You can see this masterpiece on the right bank of Chao Phraya river. This group of structures, called Sunlaka Sathan, was where all foreign ships had to report to pay taxes. King Rama V built this Custom House in 1888. It was designed in Neo Renaissance style by an Italian architect. In 1949 this building was converted to a fire station after the custom house was shifted to Khlong Toey. This artistic building has been the backdrop of films like Killing Fields and In Mood For Love. I really loved the classic feel of the sepia facade with turquoise window panes.

Interesting historic bldg on the river. No reason to book a tour. Just walk here and have a look. Security guard was on duty but his main job apoears to be to stay out of the photos..he did not bother me or even approach me. Easy walk from here to/from China Town and other interesting sites. Lots of photo opps around here!

I visited on a Sunday afternoon - there were no security guards on duty. There were "No photo" signs, but only beside the security hut, so there was no problem taking pictures of the Old Customs House building itself. From the wall at the water's edge it is possible to get a shot of the Old Customs House building with the golden dome of the State Tower in the background.

This Place can not be visited by accident. Seem you have to book somewhere a tour or something. Photos are prohibited. From the entrance you will be rejected by security. It is not worthy to walk here without a ticket. No photos, no entry, no good.
