A beautiful cathedral with beautiful architecture and peaceful mass
Apr 2021
Assumption Cathedral is located in Bang Rak District, Bangkok, Thailand. It is a Roman Catholic church which was constructed from the request of French missionaries and completed in 1821. The cathedral was reconstructed many times. For example, during the World War II in 1942, the church was seriously damaged by the bomb, so it was restored and partly refurbished in 1980s and 1990s. Stained glass window are used in the cathedral today. The cathedral was visited by 2 Popes, including Pope John Paul II in May 1984 and Pope Francis in November 2019.

I visited the Cathedral during the Holy Week. The cathedral was a very beautiful architecture. There are stained glass windows around the cathedral which told us the stories from the Bible both old testament and new testament. On those days, I thought the choir sang so sweetly and peacefully while I was attending the masses. I really recommend you visit this Cathedral. It is opened every day for sightseeing, or you can attend the mass which is held on Saturday 5 p.m., and Sunday 7 a.m., 08.30 a.m., 10.00 a.m. (English Mass), and 5.00 p.m.

Beautiful cathedral in Silom
Sep 2019 • Solo
This is a very beautiful cathedral located at a walking distance from Novotel Bangkok Silom Road hotel where I was staying during my vacation in Bangkok. The cathedral is very big and equally beautiful both the architecture at the outside and the inside. I liked the colorful stained glass windows inside the cathedral showcasing events from the life of Jesus Christ. This is a must visit attraction in Silom.

Very Beautiful Church
Nov 2019
Located down a small alley, this church sits between Assumption University and a small square/parking lot. While the facade indicates that the church was recently built, the roots are much older. Go past the fresh exterior and check out the beautiful interior which is a bright and colorful escape from the dingy alleys outsides. There is beautiful stained glass. And, if you catch the church during a mass, please be respectful.

a truly solemn mass
Oct 2019
I arrived 30 mins before the 10am English mass so I toured the vicinity first. The cathedral sits in a compound of a school near the Mandarin Oriental, there is parking space for about 20 vehicles, comfort room, and is clean and peaceful, no vendors.
The 10am mass is English so the massgoers is a mix of nationalities, some of whom are tourists. It is presided by a white priest with a choir wearing white and blue attire. there are prayer books and hymnals on the pews as well as missalettes. The mass itself was solemn, no screaming kids, everyone joined in singing, very conducive to communing with God. Before the communion though , the priest asked the congregation if there are any lay ministers from their home country as there is a need for additional people to give communion. I think there were 4 who helped and succeeded in giving communion. Truly it was a solemn mass like no other.

Tips : Dress appropriately ; no shorts, no tank tops, no spaghetti straps
Taking pictures is allowed before or after mass but not during mass
Right outside the compound is the Oriental pier, so a trip to Wat Arun via
the Chao Praya river cruise might be considered, take the boats the
locals take fare is only 15 baht.

BEAUTIFUL Worship Environment
Jun 2019 • Family
A beautiful place of worship - a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city. Had looked forward to hearing the enormous hybrid pipe/digital organ for the English service, but it was not used. Hopefully the organ is used for other major solemnities and feasts of the liturgical calendar.

Worth a visit for Sunday weekend-worship or sightsee
Mar 2019 • Solo
As this catheral was the centre of Catholic (+other Christian denominations) in Thailand, constructed in 200-year-old by French legacy missionaries, worth a visit whether Sunday weekend-worship or just sightsee. A building design in French architect style, the original building with material imported from France and Italy. The cathedral is open everyday, nearby Mandarin Oriental Hotel, French Embassy, Assumption Suksa School, Assumption Convent, and Assumption College
