Set of buildings on a large plot of land. The main building features a large prayer hall with huge golden Buddhas and four large bouquets of artificial lotuses in huge Chinese vases located at each corner of the altar. The ceiling is entirely painted mostly in red and gold and there is a huge and very beautiful fresco about 1.50 m high that runs all around the room.
All around the prayer room there is a huge gallery with also a ceiling entirely painted red and gold and countless golden statues. All wooden shutters facing the outside are entirely painted with Buddhist scenes. The walls between its shutters are also painted.
Seen from the outside, the shutters are all painted with regular gold drawings on a black background. The temple is very beautiful. There are a multitude of fabulous architectural details.
Admission was 100 bath. We only had dollars and euros (Sunday: day of our arrival. No exchange offices open in the area). The guard kindly let us in without paying.

We arrived at our hotel and thought we should take a walk around the block and get our bearings. We ended up finding this cute & quiet little temple. Which ended up being much bigger than we were expecting. There was no entrance fee. You do have to dress respectfully. As I didn't think we would be going into a temple I had a dress on that didn't cover my knees but I could borrow a wrap free of charge so I could go in. The people at this wat were so lovely and friendly. Mostly locals & Monk's.
While speaking to one of the locals we found out that Wat Chana Songkram is an important royal temple and it is an old second-class royal monastery built in the Ayutthaya era. Wat Chana Songkhram means ‘victory of war temple’.

We had not initially planned on visiting this temple whilst walking from our hotel to the main hostels in the city centre, however as we ended up walking past the front entrance a monk was stood almost on the street inviting people to come in and have a look around for free. We decided to give it a go and were pleased that we did.
Compared to the temples in the centre, this one is a lot quieter. The majority of tourists don't venture up this far, so that made it good for us seeing a quiet temple in a nice atmosphere. Unlike in Cambodia, they provide robes here for women to wrap themselves in so that they don't tempt the statues with a shocking display of kneecap; whilst this is still disgustingly misogynistic at least it beats outrightly refusing entry.
The temple, other than being quieter, was much the same inside as most other Thai temples. At the minute there is restoration work going on, but fortunately this is the prayer hall which is inaccessible to tourists anyway. As we were leaving, one of the monks asked us where we were going for the rest of the day, and happily sat down with us to tell us the best times to visit sites; he even went so far as to call us a cheap tuk tuk to take us on a private boat cruise for over half the price of the public ones. That definitely made this temple worth visiting for us!

The main hall at Wat Chana Songkhram is beautiful. The small buildings were under renovation. We went in the temple while the monks prayed. We were not allowed near the praying hall.

But if you're in the area, it's a quiet retreat. It's near the Chao Phraya River & you can take the Orange Express Boat to pier #13, it's a short walk from there.

Wat Chana Songkram is one of an important royal temple, it was built back in Aydhaya era and was majorly renovated by Somdej Phrabovornrajjao Maha Surasinghanat, a younger brother of King Rama the 1st, the founder of Chakri dynasty and Bangkok around 235 years ago. He was appointed as the 2nd King when his brother took over the throne then.
The title of the temple Chana Songkram means winning war, considering as a good name to commemorate the Siam-Burma war during that period. It was told that the amulet shirt from the 2nd King himself was kept inside the main buddha image of the temple.
The construction and design of this temple is unique and different from a royal palace style, locally we called this the art Wang Na ( front palace) style. For those who are interested in Thai art, you may also observe this at the National museum which was a former palace of the second king and at Wat Mahatat.
There is a special room dedicated to be a storage place of the second king descendants' remaining, this room has been closed and concealed to outsider in the past few decades. During my latest visit, I found that the room is now open to public. This is one of the interesting point to visit to see how the royal house keeps their ancestors remaining. Most of the royal family members remaining are kept in the royal palace and closed to the public. This is one of a kind and worth to visit if you stay around Khao san area. Check it out.

Not located in the quietest area but you will quickly forget about the noise when you enter this beautiful temple with a huge statue of Bouddha as per tradition and many other little ones around it. The decorations all around the temple are simply stunning!!

Went on the last day of Songkran festival, so got to see the temple in full use. Incredible artwork and architecture- worth a visit if you're nearby.

Stunning little Wat, saw it whilst having a coffee in Starbucks. Wandered across and were really lucky to witness a large amount of monks celebrating a five year anniversary of something. Unfortunately because of language barrier couldn't get anymore info. I managed some great photos of the ceremony but then left my camera in a taxi......Arrghh.
Make the effort to visit this wonderful temple.

Very nice and quiet peaceful temple. People there are very friendly and helpful. A really nice guy there took me and my wife around and showed us different parts of the temple. Didn't ask for money at all, he just seemed proud of the place and wanted to be helpful.
A nice break from the hectic area
