The area
Neighborhood: Chatuchak
Every weekend, thousands of tourists make their way up to this Northern Bangkok suburb to get lost in an enormous maze of shops at the Chatuchak Weekend Market. Home to almost 10,000 vendors, you’ll find everything from vintage sneakers to comic books and Thai handicrafts being sold here. You name it, Chatuchack probably sells it. The market is a great place to pick up souvenirs, but be sure to bargain for a good price. After a day of shopping and strolling around, the lush green lanes of Chatuchak Park are a welcome relief.

Make some time for a visit when at the Chatuchak Market.
We spent a few hours in Chatuchak and Wachirabenchathat Parks including some time at this free enclosure.
Use Google maps to help you find it.

Small insectarium. Few butterflies were visible. Not much varieties. Very common ones. Several stairs of garden. Some flowers. Fountain. Butterflies came out from inside time to time. We went there after 4:30 and it was closed. The following day went around 3 pm and stayed there up to 4:30 and it was enough. The butterfly garden is closed on Monday and remains open from 0830 in the morning to 04:30 in the afternoon. Sweated a lot during the summer heat while trying to photograph the butterflies.
Went there one day by taxi and it was quite far from Sukumvit Soi 1. Following day went there by BTS, got down at Mo Chit. Walked for 10/15 minutes, asking people inside the huge 150 acre of park and found the place. Walking inside the park was also a great pleasure. Entrance was free.

Went there a few days ago, there's currently a massive wall around the whole place. We could see the top of the dome and a lot of the glass is missing and there's scaffolding all around it so it looks like it will be a while.
There is a sign outside written in Thai which I can't read (see image), but it does have the dates 10/09/17-10/04/18, so maybe that is how long the renovation will take.
As someone else said, the temporary butterfly shed that has been put up next to it is not worth the trip, we saw better butterflies in the surrounding park whilst walking through.

I've been here quite a few times over the years and always found it an enjoyable experience with tonnes of butterflies all over the place. However, decided to stop by whilst bike riding thru the park today and was extremely disappointed... i counted 3 or 4 butterflies in the whole place. We were in and out in less than 5 minutes! Don't know the reason as no staff to ask. I would not recommend this place now. Such a shame.

Do not go there !! We went there today. No sign no direction nothing. You need to ask every 2 min for direction.
Till we finally arrived we found out that the main site is still under renovation and will be open only next year.
Save yourself time and don't go..

I've wanted to go to this for a few years but could never find it. My guide had never been there either. It turns out to be very close to the Weekend Market. However the woman on the gate to the huge beautiful park that houses the butterfly garden sent us in the completely wrong direction.
When we found it after the guide being frightened by a small 18" lizard and a convoy of swans, bother of which were more exciting than this place.
Although advertised as a Butterfly Farm, it is not what one would expect and I have more cabbage white butterflies in my garden in summer than this place anything resembling a collection. There appears to be an education centre there but there was no access and there was just an open air big case with more butterflies outside than in and those that were there were small and unimpressive. Luckily this place was free, but completely boring unless you like swans and lizards!

We went to the insectarium today (very difficult to find as it's not on the maps around the park - had to rely on locals pointing the way). When we got there we saw rubble on the floor in the big glass building and workers in there, there were definitely no insects or butterflies. Next to the building is a temporary shelter with a few butterflies in - but it is tiny, not waterproof and not worth the visit. Do not waste your time trying to find it!!

Impossible to find, it's not where trip adviser said it is, and the locals had no clue, we blundered about forever. Pitty, its amazing what a sign or two could have done.

We absolutely love this place i didn't even know a place like this even exsisted in Bangkok City if you love butterflies and insects this is the place to visit in Bangkok it has a area of just over two acres and there hundreds of butterflies just flying around everywhere if you still still on the garden benches they will ever land on you.
The gardens have small waterfalls and green areas where you can even bring your pinic basket and make a day of it with your kids or friends and it's free entry don't miss this butterfly paradise if your even in Bangkok.
