I first met Johny in 1969, while on leave from Vietnam. During three years in the Australian Embassy (1973 - 76) I became very good friends with Johny and his lovely wife Annie. I directed many people to the shop during this time and every single one of them came away happy with their purchases and the service they had received. Our friendship continued during a second Embassy posting (1983 - 86). I was deeply saddened by Johny's death, but his son, Samart, became a worthy successor. I have personally recommended many dozens of customers to Johny's and know of hundreds more...Never have I heard a single word of complaint regarding service, quality or price. I look forward to renewing my acquaintance with Samart when I visit Bangkok again in a few weeks.

The owner Mr. Sue is very friendly, he didn’t pressure me to buy anything right away but give me time to choose my piece very carefully. The price he gave was good price, cheap and reasonable. The shop also do custom designs and it came out very very well. The quality of the materials is top-notch. The colour of my sapphire is extraordinary, it is very rare and cannot be found anywhere else.

This is a family owned and operated jewelry store which specializes in rubies and sapphire jewelries, loose gems, and a collection of mid-century noppakao rings. We were charmed by the hospitality shown by our hosts. When we called asking for directions, an attendant came looking for us. When we sat at the counter, the owner asked if we were hungry and ordered food from a nearby vendor, and we swear that it was the best pad see-ew we've had in years. We ended up visiting a couple of times, and bought quite a few pieces. We were impressed by their collection of original noppakao rings, which are uniquely Thai mid-century intricate designs. All were designed in house since they have their own goldsmiths.
The one surprise for us is how much this store is a treasure trove of American history in Thailand. The shop was first opened during the early days of the war in Vietnam. It became a place where American Service persons often visited. The store counters are lined with business cards of American visitors and along the walls are photos of American Service persons as well as politicians and other representatives of the United States. This is the type of business that creates a strong relationship with its clients. We will certainly visit again next time we're in Thailand.
Johny's Gems is located on Fueng Nakorn Road, one of the first four roads built in Bangkok, a few blocks southeast from the Royal Palace, and on the southeast corner of Wat Ratchabopit, south of the canal, at the corner of Phaya Si and Fueng Nakorn. Look for the "Johny's Gems" large signage. You can walk from pier 8 on the Chao Praya River, or take a taxi from Hua Lamphong train station if you are not staying in the area.

Left Bangkok 47 years ago and this was the first time back. My parents shopped here several times when we lived here (our mom was the beneficiary!) and I had to stop by to see it again for myself. Place had not changed a bit! Still had my father’s picture up on the wall! Joseph (Johny’s son) was there and he was extraordinarily gracious and helpful. How can you not like jewelry shopping when a cold Singha is offered?! Bought a beautiful opal ring for my wife which they delivered to our hotel later that day after it was properly sized. Very competitive prices and the service was spectacular. Thank-you Johny’s Gems for a great day!

We have visited Johny's Gems for 24 years - my how time flies! Samart, Johny's successor-son, is one smart, well-educated, affable and honest businessman, and his small crew is very well educated in the art of customer service. It is not the fanciest of jewelry stores, I am certain you will agree, but its longevity as shown in its gallery of photos and business cards speaks volumes to its character. Sheesh.

I wanted to get another piece of sapphire jewelry to go with the pieces that I bought here in 2018. I found the perfect piece and Samart made it into a pendant for me and then delivered it to our hotel a couple of days later. He picked us up at our hotel since it is a little difficult to find the store. It is very near the temples and Grand Palace so the BTS and Metro do not go too near there. Just almost across the street from the store is a temple that is the residence of the head monk (I don't remember the exact title) in Bangkok. Samart told us about it and recommended that we go there and walk around. Samart is very gracious and drove us to the Grand Palace after our shopping trip and dropped us as near to the entrance as possible. I highly recommend Johny's Gems. They are trustworthy and skilled jewelers. They've been in business in Bangkok for many years.

Johny's Gems has served many American military, dignitaries and other famous people. Just look at all the pictures on their walls of famous folks who have shopped there! It is a family owned and operated business. Following Johny's death, his son Samart took over the management of the store. Also his brother Joseph works with the business. He picked us up at our hotel and returned us there after several fun hours of shopping. I was lucky that Johny's wife Annie was working on the Saturday we were there. She is retired but said she comes in sometimes just so she doesn't get bored! She is so lovely and warm and very helpful with jewelry selection. I found a pair of beautiful sapphire earrings and a ring to match. There is no pressure to buy. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. I felt that the prices I paid were very good for the quality of jewelry that I bought. After wearing the earrings that day, I realized that the clasps were too tight on my earlobes. I called and Samart said that they would pick up the earrings at my hotel and adjust them and then return them that evening. I was a little concerned because we were leaving to return to the States early the next morning. But no reason to worry. The earrings were returned and I can now wear them comfortably. When in Bangkok, you should visit Johny's Gems for an honest, reliable jewelry shopping experience.

If visiting Bangkok, you cannot miss this family-run jewelry store with portraits of past customers including US generals, Catholic priests, US presidents, and CEOs from around the world that have visited Johny and Annie throughout the 60+ years this store has been opened. Signed name cards from past clients, mostly army and US expats, covered the cabinet walls. Their son, Samart, took great care of me ordering custom pieces as well as assisting me in sending stuff back home to the US. Their shop also has a great selection of antiques from brass to oriental wood pieces to rare china porcelain. A rare gem in Bangkok that you can trust in buying jewelry and home decor. Thank you for the memorable experience! - Jacob & Susan.

I went to high school in Bangkok in the '60s when my parents were directed to Johny's Gems by satisfied customers. I returned in the '70s and again in '01 with my family. Somehow the staff recognized me and treated us like visiting royalty. My family's picture was still on the wall from the '60s. They brought in lunch and soft-drinks as we browsed their wide collection of jewelry and black sapphires. Yes, we spent a bundle. It's a "don't miss shop" in Bangkok. My last visit was in 2001.

I have been going to Johny's Gems for 15 years and have taken numerous friends there too. Khun Samart and his team are always extremely helpful and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Their work is superb! Special orders are always possible and are well crafted. I will continue to use their services and recommend them to anyone looking for a trustworthy jeweler in Thailand.
