Khaosan Road

Khaosan Road

About
A favorite among late-night revelers, Khaosan Road is one of the major backpacking hubs of South East Asia. This short thoroughfare in central Bangkok is jam-packed with raucous bars and restaurants, as well as budget hostels. Try some unusual street food like scorpions on a stick, watch erotic shows, get a foot massage, or even a tattoo as a souvenir for your trip. Khaosan Road is within walking distance from a ferry terminal and from landmarks like the Wat Phra Kaew temple and the Phra Sumen Fort, so set out to explore the area after arriving. – Tripadvisor

Enjoyable. But only worth it if you’re in the area. Made the treck across town (trains can’t reach here). And wasn’t very impressed. Just tourist trap with people walking around with cold scorpions and bug snacks lol. At least make them look somewhat appetizing 🤣. Not worth traveling far too.

Place you shouldn't missed to visit but isn't the right place to stay at
The place is too alive and loud, there's a lot of fine dining restaurants and bars, street foods are in the aisle of the street so there's no way you will get hungry while doing your stroll. You will get a little entertained too by the other tourist who is teasing each other to try out the street food and of course by those who are brave enough to eat the street foods such as scorpions, frogs, crickets, worms and many to mentions. It is not recommendable to buy souvenirs in this area because even after bargaining the price is still higher than the other market. There are some good tattoo artists too in the area, My Fiancé and I visited Tattoo Center by Ake Tattoo and we got Inked. Tons of massage center too, we had it late in the evening and I could say the masseurs is without energy already so better do it in the day time otherwise do you message in another place. It is indeed a place to visit cause it is fun to get along with others who are dancing and singing from the loud music of the bars yet with the noise and crowd, it is not recommendable for you to book your stay in this area. Tourist travelling with kids should be extra cautious and might skip this place as part of their itinerary cause this is not a child friendly environment.

    Nice walk and good restaurant
Group trip to Thailand and visit to Bangkok. Classic itineraries also include Kahosan Road for an evening stroll. We liked it much more than Patpong and other areas. This street has a lively atmosphere. Just for being in the movie The Beach, it should be seen! Furthermore, I recommend the My Darling restaurant where the dishes are delicious.

    Khao San Road, worth seeing
Khao is the loudest, most colorful and smelly street in the city. You can't miss visiting it! I don't recommend a hotel in the middle of Khaosan if you want to sleep 😅😅. Street food (including insects, crocodile meat, etc.), Thai food and music everywhere

    Have fun traveling
Having traveled many times, there is always something to do, whether it's eating or traveling, but no matter how you run out of it. But what I recommend are the bars. Every shop is fun and there are many food options to choose from. No matter how I walk, I still can't run out. I like it. 🫶🫶🫶🫶

Just Another Area of Bangkok Now
If you're thinking this is the great backpacker haven of legend, then you're going to be disappointed. I first visited about 15 years ago and sadly, the backpacker vibes are gone. Better to go off the beaten track if that's what you're looking for. Otherwise, Khaosan Road is a pretty funky place to visit with plenty of shops, bars and restaurants.

Crazy mad but worth a visit
It's loud, brash, mad, hustling but well worth an hour or two of your time. We loved it just for fun. Ate at Jo Jo's which we really enjoyed...let us sit and watch the world go by and what a crazy world....makes you smile.

    Loud
It is fun to go at least once, but if you visit at night it is very loud with all the bars music competing with each other which results in just noise. Load of bars and jump in one to sit and watch the crazy unfold. Tuk tuks around here will rip you off if you aren't careful. You will get offered bugs on sticks, tattoos, laughing gas every second step which gets really annoying, but it was a bit of fun for an hour or so then our eardrums needed a rest.

Koshan road is a street full of European people
Khao San Road in Bangkok is a famous tourist street located in the city center, next to the Grand Palace and the Chao Phraya River. The street is famous for its unique atmosphere and colorful activities, attracting tourists from all over the world. You can find a variety of bars, restaurants, food stalls and shops here to taste local food, buy souvenirs and experience Bangkok's nightlife. During the day, Khao San Road is also a lively shopping place with a variety of cheap clothing, handicrafts and decorations. Whether it is day or night, Khao San Road is an exciting place to go, full of energy and vitality.

Street of drinks and a lot of atmosphere
An essential visit to Bangkok to enjoy its nightlife. Many street food and drink stalls, overlapping each other, with people mingling. It is very interesting to get away from the main street and walk along others to see other environments.

If you want to experience a few hours in the bustle, the hubbub, the music that mixes with each other and have waiters or street vendors hound you every meter... this is the place to be. you have to come!!! You have to at least stop by if you are in Bangkok!! Tourists get massages all over the street, you can find everything there!! Clothes, super lively bars with DJs.. This world and this noise is crazy!!! Go there for a drink, but I don't recommend going there for dinner.. very touristy, not very good and more expensive than elsewhere.. even the massages are more expensive but on the other hand, you can have a 30 minute massage if you want (and not 1 hour)

My hotel was near Khao San Road, so I went there at night. I think it's the most lively place in Bangkok. Club music was playing at full volume everywhere, and it was very lively. However, the people holding menus were really good at touting. I don't know how many people called out to me just by walking down the street. Some people even tried to forcefully grab me by the arm and take me to a shop. Things that are illegal in Japan are openly sold there, and it felt like a different world. It might be the perfect spot for people who like clubs and alcohol. I can hardly drink alcohol, and I wasn't interested in illegal things, so I just strolled around. I didn't get the impression that it was that unsafe, but it seems better to be careful of pickpockets.

Gets busier as the day goes on, plenty of street food vendors, selling at reasonable prices compared to hotels and sit down restaurants. Great for people watching, sat in a nice quiet bar down a side alley, like an oasis in among the noisy bar and busy street. worth seeing, but we won't rush back, prefer something more peaceful!!

A particularly charmless and empty area on a blistering hot Wednesday late morning. Few tourists, and some aggressive vendors. We suspect the atmosphere might be much different (and more lively) at night. But like other similar areas around the world, we foreigners are seen as walking ATM machines.

It is impossible not to notice that cannabis shops dominate the street by a wide margin. Anticipating the Government's intention to ban these for general use, several have changed signs to say "medical". But it is also hard not to wonder what can replace them if they close. There are soooo many.

Advice: just don't even think of going there in the morning. And public bus 2 or 511 snake their way through the city and are a cheap way to get in and out.

A change in 12 months, the place has dropped significantly in fun. Was here back in November 23 and had a brilliant night. 12 months later to November 2024 and now it's just ridiculously loud with bars trying to out do each other by playing music until your ears burst. Far too loud and conflicting sounds. To finally top it off, my friend knocked the table by accident and a single glass broke as it fell off. They made him pay 200 Bhat to replace a single glass!!! And the waitress was quite aggressive about him paying. The place doesnt represent Thailand or the Thai people

But how wrong I was on this one! I haven't read the comments enough and on the site the photos of the hotel are bad (hotel on the corner of the street). There I am in the room it is 9:14 p.m. and with the ear pads fully pressed I can still hear the bass. I want to cry thinking about the night I'm going to spend 😭 The street is crowded with haggard tourists (well it's free sale of cannabis so obviously) and for the others I don't see anyone really having fun. Walking dead tea, Asian version 🤪 In short, I don’t understand.

Shame on you Bangkok for allowing this iconic street to become nothing more than a nightclub. Having been a regular visitor to Khoa San Road since 1990 I was so disappointed to see my happy place replaced with street shops struggling for business, and an evening market a quarter of its previous self. From 9pm it becomes a battle of who has the loudest speakers right through to at least 2am making sleeping in the the hotels on the street all but impossible. In the morning the street is dead. I can only imagine that over the coming months, shops and hotels will close and the street will die entirely during the day time and simply become a destination night spot only. If there was any light in the tunnel it’s that the street parallel to it, (behind away from the main road) has taken up some of the slack and may grow into something. What a loss.

Here you can smoke weed, rip off a roasted spider from a skewer, and eat street food surrounded by tourists. In general, we got here at the end of the excursion day and were not at all impressed. We realized that there is no way to eat here safely and street taxis raise prices to the skies. They went to the side.

The place is a must visit if you’re into loud music, crowded places and looking to explore the night life. There are a lot of bars on the stretch of the road and it’s pretty tough to decide on a particular bar. There are a few souvenir shops on the stretch for some quick shopping. You also see a lot of people selling balloons I don’t exactly know what that is though. All the bars are free to enter but there is this one particular bar that you need to pay to enter and that bar was banging. Keep in mind that there’ll be a lot of people pulling you towards their bar so the choice is yours.

Ahhhhhh......Khao San Road!

A fave among foreigner because of the quaint little inns that are full of character and accesible food places and bars. When night falls, the short strip turns into the most bustlin' and colorful place in Bangkok. From crocodile meat shops, scorpions, maggots, coackroachesz, loud music from house, hip hop , rock and roll all playing at the same time. And if that's not enough, recent regulations to the kingdom have legalized cannabis.
