Every weekend, thousands of tourists make their way up to this Northern Bangkok suburb to get lost in an enormous maze of shops at the Chatuchak Weekend Market. Home to almost 10,000 vendors, you’ll find everything from vintage sneakers to comic books and Thai handicrafts being sold here. You name it, Chatuchack probably sells it. The market is a great place to pick up souvenirs, but be sure to bargain for a good price. After a day of shopping and strolling around, the lush green lanes of Chatuchak Park are a welcome relief.

- SteLincsLouth, United Kingdom115 contributionsBiggest market you will go to.Yes, there really are thousands of stalls at this market. Every kind of street food and all the usual clothes stalls, fruit stalls, jewellery stalls etc.etc. Had a foot massage (half hour) which was very relaxing. You can spend as long as you wish here. Worth going just for the experience. Prices are good here.Visited November 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten December 7, 2022
- Jun AculladorPasig, Philippines725 contributionsChatuchak Weekend MarketCheap things abound in “JJ” weekend market. Bought souvenir items at a reasonable price, just learn how to find it. For a flea market, this place is clean. The food is also great 👍Visited December 2022Traveled with friendsWritten December 9, 2022
- Guido C1 contributionGood vintage and new things marketVery easy to reach: just take the underground metro train to Chatuchak Park station and make a right coming out of the station. Nice vintage and new clothes, ornaments, suitcases, etc at really good prices. Once you see something you like, bargain and buy it or you will not find it again.Visited December 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten December 11, 2022
- Samuel MSingapore, Singapore95 contributionsAn old charm2nd time at this place after more than a decade- it looks and feels the same except that it seems a little more organized. The place can can get really hot and humid during the day- I brought my kids along and their energy was zapped fairly fast in the weather. Consider visiting in the late afternoon or in the evening. Some shops do not allow bargaining so it can be a hit or miss if you are looking for a good deal.Visited December 2022Traveled with familyWritten December 18, 2022
- Natalie LeeHong Kong, China43 contributionsYou can get basically everything hereFilled with shops! A lot of cheap clothes, accessories, scented products, and souvenirs. But not only limited to these, when we walk further inside, there are furniture shops, pet shops, food stores… it was an adventure for us to explore. Recommend to enjoy a foot massage halfway because the market is so big, the massage not expensive and good quality. There are also few local designers shop which sell fashion a bit more expensive but really worth the price. Toilets required 5baht entrance fee and there are staff to help you exchange coins. Please noted inside the market it can get quite suffocating if crowded. Water or any beverage are recommended. The water they sell in the Main Street can be a bit expensive.Visited December 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten December 28, 2022
- zainaljbJohor Bahru, Malaysia6 contributionsThe Mother of flea marketGreat shopping. Huge flea market. Everything under the sun u can find it here. Best to go is on the weekend. Because it really closes on monday n tuesday. But if wanna get the same stuff without the heat , with a/c, theres a mall next to the market. JJ mall. The part about this mall is, the stuff is cheaper..less tourist I guess. Everything that we bought could be found here. And they are cheaper. But ofcourse the experience is differentVisited December 2022Traveled with familyWritten December 31, 2022

- TS&DPortishead, United Kingdom72 contributionsBusy, busy, busy!!….well worth a visit!Very excited to visit this famous weekend market in Bangkok!…so much to see and do. You certainly get the shopping fix, plus lots of delicious street food and find time to have a foot massage!…the pet section could be a little unnerving if you’re not used to seeing animals in this situation but it’s the way it is in Thailand. Definitely worth visiting, you won’t be disappointed.Visited January 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten January 15, 2023
- JinjjaDaebakkSingapore, Singapore154 contributionsA Shopping DreamYou could spend half or even a full day here! A very big market and the prices are cheaper than in other markets. Many stores to shop in and food to try. It was very hot and I had the famous coconut ice cream. There is also an animal zone but the animals do not look comfortable or happy at all (some barely looked alive). If you want a break from the heat, there is a small air-conditioned mall in the area with a food court on the top floor.Visited January 2023Written January 15, 2023
- Patricia ZucconiPorto Ronco, Switzerland1,294 contributionsAn amazing marketA must when in Bangkok. One of the world's largest weekend markets, more than 15'000 booths selling all sorts of goods from every part of Thailand. Plants, ceramic wares, clothes, shoes, candles, soaps etc. 27 sections in all. Bring lots of water or buy it directly there as it can be very hot and in some stalls (well nearly all of them) it can be very stuffy.Visited November 2022Written January 16, 2023

Thousands upon thousands of kiosks, all under cover from the heat and many with air conditioning or fans. Organised into themes, with food and refreshment outlets sprinkled amongst them, as well as having their own area.
Get hold of a map and go as early as you can manage. By 10:00 am all kiosks will be open, and many will be open at 9:00 am.
The incredible feature of the clothing kiosks is that they have very little repetition. Elsewhere in South East Asia you may be familiar with the usual touristy haunts with the same cheap singlets of the local beer and other dodgy wares. Not so here. Many of the clothing kiosks were the outlet for local producers and designers.
The fact that there are more local Thais than tourists means that this place is not a tourist trap. It is the real deal. Many kiosk staff can speak sufficient English to let you know the price and the fact that, almost always, the prices are fixed. They usually have a little wiggle room for multiple purchases.
Transport is easy by train. Two stations serve the market, it is that big. Coming from the Sukhumvit area you will want the last stop if focusing on clothing. For Art, you'll want the first stop, coming from Sukhumvit. The train has audible announcements in Thai and English. Those old stories of transport mayhem in Bangkok are just that, except for congestion in the peaks, the same as my home city Sydney, and other cities I am sure. From mid-afternoon, prepare to stand on the train back. The market has many thousands of visitors each weekend.
This market is more than just souvenirs. Locals and westerners alike can snare some great Asian fashions, some cool tee-shirts with great motifs, works of art sold directly by the artist, household decorations, plants, carvings, books, massages, the lot.
I haven't even talked about the food area. Great value and tons of variety! Amongst the kiosks are refreshments too. I had a great French themed tropical fruit juice, with old French folk music and a gregarious owner/manager offering me samples. A real hit with the foreigners and a few locals too. Mid-morning, seats were already all taken!
You simply must go to Chatuchak. An inexpensive and yet thoroughly enjoyable day out.

I've been to Bangkok several times but little did I know that going to this unique weekend market in Bangkok is one of the most exciting experience I had in this exciting Thai capital. Located in BTS Mochit station or MRT Chatuchak park the market is just 5 mins walk away. It is a tourist spot with lots of tourists and locals alike strolling, shopping, eating and just having fun. It has more than 15,000 stalls and 11,000 vendors to offer. It is the world's largest weekend market. It is relatively safe so you can take many photos and videos as you want. The market has tons of items ranging from clothes, souvenir items, shoes, bags, plants, jewelry, food and many more. You can find good price at a very great bargain here but payment is relatively cash only. The market has both outdoor and indoor stalls. The indoor are is air-conditioned and mostly open during weekend and during the day. The outdoors are open during the night. It is quite a huge market so walking around here might take you around 1 to 2 hours depending on your shopping needs. Price ranges are as low as 10 baht upwards. One of the most unique items here are shirts printed with signature characters and dresses that cost only 100 bath. Tuk-tuks, taxis and buses are also just outside the market and there is also a parking area. Street food is also available on the outdoor area of the market. One of the nicest feature here is the Thai flag hanging on one are of the market. The market has many entrance and exit so if you're lost just free to ask the exit nearest the BTS. We went here 2x during Friday night and Saturday afternoon because Thailand shirt souvenir items are only available during the day. It is definitely a must to visit Chatuchak or in short JJ Market whenever you have time and when you're in Bangkok. Truly exciting and fun to visit and shop here.

Came here on Saturday morning 9AM. Probably only 50% of stalls were open, as the morning progressed more stalls opened their shutters but the heat just got worse. We enjoyed section 25 the most, this is where most of the handicraft stalls were, don’t be afraid to barter for larger items. Even price tagged items you can usually get up-to half price. The whole site is a maze, we downloaded Chatuchak guide app, helpful for where in the market you are but not much much use for finding types of stalls interested in. By 11.30 we headed to one of the opposite malls for some air-con and lunch (top floor is local food, as cheap as the street food). Would advise to come here in the morning, I imagine the heat inside the market (indoor) would be unbearable in the early afternoon.

We always make sure when we stay in Bangkok at the beginning and end of our trip in Thailand that we arrange it so we can visit Chatuchak. It’s absolutely huge and you do have to be in the mood to be slightly squished by other people at times. Saying that I’m not really a fan of crowds but the appeal of some of the clothes outweighs my discomfort haha. We’ve been first thing on a morning before the midday heat and on an afternoon as well, you get to see, hear and smell some amazing things. There is something for everyone. My husband loves the vintage area for clothes and stuff but I prefer the more modern open air areas where you can find handmade clothes that students have made at really good prices! I can’t imagine ever visiting Bangkok and not going to Chatuchak at least once :)

I´ve been to Thailand and Bangkok many times but never made it to the market before. I got there Saturday morning, essy access with the subway, and then started to walk around. As one Thai friend had advised me, if you see soething you want then but it, you will never find back to the same shop again. He was damn right. Walking the endless corridors under the roof covers is astonishing, you can find everything you might need, and don´t need and many shops has fixed prices. The competition is hard so prices are rock-bottom and since many Thai people is hopping here you avoid the low-quality tourist items and can instead find lots of everyday things. Even if you are not interestd in shopping, go here to just get the atmosphere - you will come out with some purshases in your hand anyway.

This was my second visit here. A great place to buy gifts or anything you might need. There are plenty of opportunities to find great food and snacks. It is fun to walk around here. It is different, unique and typical Thai, only big scale. This time we were not able to find a map, it would be great if the maps were easy to find. I would recommend going in the morning like I did on my first visit, now I came after noon and it was more crowded. Going back for sure

I re visited Chatuchak market after more than 20 years and was pleasantly surprised by the improved infrastructure. Each block of shops has sheltered walkways.
The range of merchandise is extensive and we ran out of time for the art and home decor sections. I love the blue and white cotton apparel and bought quite a few. Most of the shops operate on a fixed price policy. We tried haggling, but was unsuccessful. In any case, the prices were good. We spotted similar merchandise in Icon Siam and other malls, which were priced higher so I would highly recommend shopping here before you hit the malls.
The downside was a lack of seated eating joints. After walking around, I wanted to sit down for a meal but we could not find any such option. We resorted to going to the nearby mall for our pit stop. The other problem was our Grab driver couldn’t locate the pick up point and he was driving around for 20 minutes to search for us. The taxis waiting around we’re charging exorbitant fixed fares which were not negotiable.

Oh I can never forget the experience at Chatuchak. Such an organised market which comes alive 3 days a week i.e., fri- sunday every week.
You will find all kinds of merchandise here, whatever you can think of, all organised by gate nos. Lovely and friendly vendors with prices lower than most other markets, they also offer discounts if you ask for. You can literally shop till you drop and meanwhile fill yourself up with sumptuous food. There is a place with a live DJ and the owner prepares paella right in front of you- one thing you can not avoid. I was simply in awe of this place. And then to top it up, at the end of the sunday market, the vendors neatly pack up and leave, only to return next friday ofcourse.

1 star rating is for shipper "SperCheapFreight". Chatuchak Weekend Market itself is a 5 star experience. I am not big into shopping but enjoyed my visit to the Market anyway. It is easily accessible via MRT and offer seemingly endless variety of items. I ended up buying more than what I had intended. Unfortunately I dropped most of the items off at "SperCheapFreight" for air shipment to USA. They offered discount on cash payment which I opted for - in hindsight should have paid via credit card. It has been over six months and I have yet to receive any of the items. infosupercheapfreight at gmail.com responded to my emails, with excuses, for first 4 months after that they simply stopped responding to my inquiries.

I'd known that Chatuchak is a huge market but I didn't know it had almost everything you could think of! From thai food and snacks, Thai traditional coconut ice cream, souvenirs, silk and cashmere shawls, traditional kitchen utensils, clothes, art & paintings, etc! They have all here. The prices are reasonable too, and some shops even offer lower prices than the others! You should walk around first and take notes of some alternatives to buy a certain thing, for you may find it in lower prices. A great place to buy souvenirs & snacks to bring back home.
