The area
Neighborhood: Thong Lor & Ekamai
Known as Bangkok’s hippest neighbourhood, Thong Lor and Ekamai is where the city's well-dressed and well-heeled spend their nights sipping cocktails in hidden speakeasies and posh restaurants. Live it up in one of Thong Lor's extravagant clubs and be prepared to brush shoulders with a Thai celebrity or two. While great for a night out, the area is nothing short of interesting during the daytime, either. Expect a mix of savvy coffee shops, pop-up bars and loads of vintage stores, brought to you by hip locals with eyes for design.
How to get there

Bad fitting
Jun 2015 • Solo
My friend recommended this place to me so I went and got a full suit. Granted it was a rushed order, but after measuring me 2 times and 1 fitting, they delivered the suit to my hotel the night before I was about to leave and I found out that the lapel is pulling away from the chest. Pretty disappointed as it wasn't cheap and I still have to find another tailor to hopefully alter it again.

It can be much better
Quality fabric ****
I ordered three shirts seven years ago and I can still wear them, it still goes but a good eye sees it is worn, so I went back to order some more. Unfortunately the fabric is now different and I am afraid I can't wear it another seven years. The variety of fabric was still the same, and in comparing to other tailors nothing special.

Price *
For what you pay in compare to other tailors the price is too high. Shirts should be 500-800 baht. They try to charge you 2000 baht.

Tailoring *
Although I gave the shirt from seven years ago to use as a sample I had to return for a fitting. And thankfully there was a fitting because the first shirt did not fit. When all shirts were finished I could keep only one because the rest was not same stitched as the sample shirt. This made me go back again. In the end I had to return a shirt which was not good enough.

Marginal at best

I am a sucker for cotton shirts. Unfortunately its very difficult to find a 100% cotton pilot shirt in the U.S. the vast majority are made of a poly-cotton blend - due to the whole no ironing thing and all.
So anytime I am out of the country I try to either buy them or have them made. Since this trip took us to Bangkok, what better place than here to have a few fitted shirts made for a reasonable price, or so I thought.

Our company attorney, who comes here all the time, suggested Gulati but since they were closed he thought that Herrmann would do just as well.

I went to the store selected the fabric, they took my measurements and in order to save time I gave them a shirt to copy that I had bought online in Germany.

On the following evening the shirts were delivered as promised a few minutes before I was leaving the hotel. I looked at the shirts in the hotel and they all looked identical to my German shirt, so far so good. The big surprise came once I tried them on. All 3 shirts were completely shapeless, they essentially looked like a sack of potatoes with pockets and epaulettes. It’s sad when the tailor made shirt fits and looks worse than the one purchased online.
The fabric also seemed better in the store than what I ended up with.

For the same price, I could have purchased 3 Olymp shirts in Germany that not only would have fit better, but be made of a higher quality fabric and looked better.

Lesson learned, always check Tripadvisor first.
