We spent last weekend on a great floating market food tour with Chin. While we tend to visit many places independently, we thought we might get a better experience being with a local. We were right. Chin knows many of the vendors in these local markets. Many were happy to see her again for the first time in months after COVID-19 closures. The entire experience was great. We visited three floating markets, all of which were busy with mostly locals, and took a pleasant boat ride to a coconut sugar factory. We were stuffed by the end of the day and tried a lot more good foods than we would have if we did it in our own. Most importantly, Chin was a great guide. Her English is very good, and she catered the experience to our expectations so well that they were easily surpassed. We would definitely use Chin and Chili Paste Tours in the future. Thank you!

Chilli paste food and cultural tour

From the moment our food tour with Chilli Paste started it was clear it was going to be a great experience. Chin, our guide for the day, arrived on time and well prepared for the tour ahead, providing us with water, tissues, and some homemade fruit sweets. The emphasis was definitely the food, however Chin’s cultural knowledge and history were very evident when we visited temples and walked past other places of interest. Our first stop for a taste of Thai breakfast happen to be only a few steps from our hotel. Chin explained the dishes on offer and took note that being from the UK , we were not used to lots of spicy food. Chin reassuringly explained this at each of our 7 food stops, ensuring that we were given dishes that our English palette could enjoy. Chin chose local family run eateries, some of whom had been in business for 3 generations, that provided good quality food, including donuts, the best Masaman chicken curry, tamarind prawns and Tom Yum (with prawns) that we have tasted along with some delicious ice cream. The longer distances between stops were taken in a taxi and later in a Tuk Tuk. Chin finished the formal part of the food tour with a place known for its BBQ pork ribs/belly (not that we had much room left for any more food). The pork is so popular, Chin had to book ahead. Whilst enjoying our food, Chin advised us that the table next to us were Thai TV Stars.
Chin very much supports local producers and concluded our day with a pit stop at a spice shop and an opportunity to a see how bao buns are made. A great food tour, with a great and thoughtful guide, plus extremely good value for money.

Chin is one of the most amazing people we have met in Thailand so far. She is the sweetest person and her tours are amazing! We went on the food and art tour and we felt like we got to see all of Thonburi with her. We got to try every food we wanted to and our tour ended up lasting 2 hours longer than it was supposed to, because she wanted to make sure we tried everything. She also helped us change our train ticket and find the right places to go.
It is the best tour I have ever gone on, and I hope everyone will choose to do the same. You really get your moneys worth and more so!👏🏼

Our day with Chin was spectacular. We visited food markets where farangs rarely venture, and the food was scrumptious. Our canoe trip down a khlong (canal) in the Tha Kha floating market was both tranquil and special, as was visiting a family business producing coconut sugar.

Chin is a great guide: deeply knowledgeable about Thai culture, patient and willing to work around dietary restrictions, but most of all just a lot of fun to be around.

100% recommended!!

We booked the Old Bangkok Food & Culture Walk on our first day in Thailand, and it's been a great choice! Be prepared to eat A LOT, because there is A LOT of amazing food to try. Chin brought us around Bangkok to try street food vendors and restaurants for more than 8 hours! Of course, everything is personalized for your own preferences, so it's definetely worth it!

Chin led us today doing on fantastic food tour of Bangkok. We live in Bangkok, so are familiar with the city, but Chin still managed to dish up plenty of new and unexpected places... along with plenty of great. Though our kids are relatively young (7 and 5) the Thai food was well judged for them and they enjoyed it. Tuk Tuk rides and a stop to feed turtles certainly helped! Thanks Chin - we’ll be back

Both my daughter and granddaughter had previously taken the Chili Paste Tour and highly recommended it. I wasn't disappointed!

Chin is an excellent guide and knows everything about Thai foods and fruits. I did the both the Food and Culture walking tour and the Floating Market tour. Chin was great in explaining everything and I had many tasty foods along the way. On the floating market tour, we took a paddled boat on some back khlongs to a coconut sugar farm where I learned about how coconut sugar is made.

This is a memorable tour with a great guide. Don't miss it!

We got to see a lot of Bangkok that we wouldn’t have seen without Chin and we tried a lot of different foods that we wouldn’t have bought ourselves. She knows a lot of locals and we got to meet them and talk to them. You definitely get what you pay for

We had a great time with Khing! She was very knowledgeable about the history of Thailand. We went to great places to eat, saw wonderful Thai Wat, and overall had a very memorable time in Bangkok. And, with Khing helping us get around, it made the rest of our stay easier and more fun. Highly recommended!

My tour out with Chin was not all good but not all bad either. I booked the trip weeks before departing for Thailand and Chin was very prompt in corresponding with me via email. She meet me at the hotel since I had only been in the country for 3 days I didn't want to get lost meeting up with her else where. Everything started off okay, she seemed to have a pleasant demeanor and even tried to help me book my train ticket to Chiang Mai on the way to our first stop. It starts to take a wrong turn on our first stop, where she decided she was gonna shop for her self in the market, she tried to get me to but something but I declined. At that moment I didn't know what to think but tried to keep my hopes up. We didn't stop at to many places, I think about 4 places in that particular market. She seemed to engage with the owners of the shops more than me, which I was kinda taken back by as I was a solo client. Most of the food honestly I didn't care for but did at least try everything that was offered to me expect one dish with lettuce, since I wasn't sure if it had been washed or if so using what type of water, The second market we went to we hop right out of the Tuk Tuk go straight into the market and Chin starts par paring. a dish using her bare hands. I think I would have felt better had she let the shop owner prepare it, but she proceeds to put seasoning on the food not with a shaker but her hands that I'm supposed to consume. About 1:30 out of no where it started to pour down rain. I assumed we would take shelter until the rain subsided but Chin wanted to continue on. I refused to go on without an umbrella, so she left me there while she went some where to retrieve an umbrella. At this point I was flustered that she would think it's okay to walk in the rain and seemed shocked that I refused to. All in all I enjoyed the time we spent at the temple and the flower market more than the food aspect of the tour. I think some things need to be tweaked for instances what if the weather gets bad what if the client needs to go to the bathroom?

Thank you for your comments. I want to reply a couple thing in this review. About the food, this customer seem like she really not interesting for try the real authentic Thai food , so if you gonna come this tour is probably not good idea if you not little bit adventurous with food. I gave this customer sala fruit for try , she not like so she spit out on the ground right in front of the vendor was selling the fruit , I have to say that was rude I feel sorry for the vendor. About buying some things in the market, that I do every time because I want to support the local people , is not because I need to buy some thing for my self , many times I buy 1 kilo of fruit or vegetable just only so I can support the vendors , later I give that to my friend or some times customer will take fruit with them. Also I talk to the people in the market every time , this important for connect the local people , have many tours walk through markets in Bangkok and the guide talk only to the tourist not even look at the vendors or buy anything for support them. In my tour is very important for I support the local people and be friendly with them. Normally customer will talk with them also I will translate often time have the cooks show the customer how to prepare some food. I will say sorry to this customer if she not have chance to engage the local people too much just seem like she not interesting. About prepare food with my hands, I wash my hands very often and I bring the clean wipes and use very often on the tour. Also I am sure the food I offer on the tour is clean and safe never had any customer get sick on my tour before. About the rain, normally I bring umbrella and rain coat on the tour, am sorry I forget on that day because is not rainy season and weather forcast not have rain. But I not mean for this customer to walk very far in rain it was only about 200 meters to next stop and mostly the foot path is cover with the roof in that place. This customer got very flustered with the rain so I went to get umbrella for her , still she was flustered even walk with umbrella , but lucky rain stop very fast. About the bathroom, I not sure why this customer say something about this, not have any problem on the tour , if she need to use bathroom just tell me no problem. :) Have bathroom at all stops on the tour and also I know where is very clean bathroom. Never had problem with bathroom on the tour. Any way thank you for come to tour , I am sorry is not best experience for you. Chin
