We didn't book a tour and just showed up at the office and luckily someone was there to help us arrange a tour the same day. Our guide Sugar was lovely and took us through some very unique places and showed us how they lived in Bangkok. I only have good words to say about Sugar and Bangkok By Bike. They take care of you and make sure that you have plenty of water along the trip and you get a lovely lunch midways. We really enjoyed our time!

Thanks for a nice review. You have only good words to give us and I am very pleased by that. However, I would recommend everyone else not doing like you did. It is unlikely to get a place just dropping by. We have a limit of how many passengers on each tour and how many before we need an assisting guide, so adding people the last minute could be hard for us. Everything turned out well this time, so good enough. But please make a booking in advance next time. Better for everyone.

The bikes were really old 3 speeds. The trip was harrowing at times, as we had sharp 90 degree turns on 3 foot wide pavement with filthy canal in one side and ditch on other. Alleyways were very narrow. At times, we rode against traffic. Despite that, it was a fascinating tour of the ‘other’ Bangkok. Our guide, Bas, spoke English well and imparted a lot of info. We were lucky enough to happen upon the dedication of a new Chinese shrine and there were lots of festivities going on. I’m glad I had the experience. But the road conditions were scary at times.

Thanks for your review. However, your review makes me a bit disappointed actually. I think you are the first one of 500 reviews complaining about the route. To me, it is obvious you did not know what kind of tour you signed up for really. A “walk in the park” should not be expected. This is a biking adventure, parts of the tour are on elevated paths and some passages are challenging for everyone. If you are a beginner or a poor biker, this is not a trip to do. It is not advanced, but you need some confidence if you are going to enjoy the tour. I am glad our guide cut the very last part of the tour, after having lunch, which is the most challenging part. Best part in my opinion, but you would not enjoy it for sure. I also need to say something about our fleet of bikes, since your statement “the bikes were really old 3 speeds”. We have over 60 bicycles and offer bikes of different models, sizes, speeds and age. Because people have different desires and needs. You had a classic model of a women´s bicycle of the American brand Schwinn. We have 4 of these and your female friend got one as well. They might have been around for some years, but they are very good quality bikes and that is why we still use them. We prefer quality before age. For women of your size and age, these bikes are normally a perfect match. Very uncomplicated, just what most customers want. I remember very well, when I suggested this bike for you this particular morning. After you tried the bicycle, I believe I asked you three times if you were pleased with that one, and you said yes. We do have newer 24-speed bikes, and if that would be better for you, you absolutely had a chance to change. I can tell you, for this kind of biking, most people never use more than 2 speeds anyway, so what would you do with the other 22? But, you just said your bike was old, nothing about the function, so I guess it was alright for you, in the end?

Having always been around the touristy part of Bangkok, this bicycle tour peaked my interest in finding out how the locals live. It was an eye-opener indeed as we cycled to places where we witnessed their everyday lives. Do arrive fifteen minutes early for a briefing by Arne, the distinguished gentleman who runs the agency; as it sets one’s expectations for what lies ahead, which is a one-of-a-kind tour, to say the least. You are then brought to choose your bicycle and Bas, our tour guide, very competently did that for me. Please ensure you are absolutely comfortable with your bike, as the tour lasts a good four hours. One must be a skillful cyclist as we often maneuvered through narrow back lanes, smack in the heart of the local lifestyle. Safety is always key, especially when you are on the roads, and Bas made sure of that. There were stops along the way, and Bas shared how the locals live and gave us a thorough insight into their lives. I was really intrigued and fascinated by what he said. Our group, numbering five cyclists, visited a floating market, a temple and took a boat ride. For a truly unique experience, I would recommend this tour.

Very enjoyable slow bike ride through regular neighborhoods on small paths along canals and through side streets. Enjoyed lunch, visit to a small market, and boat ride also. Guide (Sugar) was very friendly with good English. Breaks were a bit long would be my only complaint.

Thanks for your review and description of our bike tour. I am glad you had a good time and enjoyed the tour. The length of the stops is a kind of compromise, people are different and some want to ask and talk a lot, others prefer more biking. In general, I think we have found a good mix of everything, after doing this business for 15 years. I remember, in the beginning we tend to bike more and talk less, but I have changed the arrangement since I learnt many people want to get as much information as possible. We try also not to make our tours like a fitness pass. Our normal customer is not here for just biking, but to get some knowledge about the Thai tradition, culture and lifestyle. Anyway, I got your point and will be aware of it for the future.

We were 2 and joined a group of 4, so ended up being 6 in total which was the right size. The bikes are comfortable, and our guide (Sugar) was very knowledgeable and eager to share his culture. The whole tour is very well organized, and is about 15 km, but you really don't feel the distance, as there are many stops and always more to discover along the way. The small streets along the canals are really narrow and fun to ride. I never thought there could be so many people living along the small canals in what seems to be a completely hidden part of Bangkok. Just for that, the experience is really worth discovering. Finally, it would have been great to have a little longer time at the floating market. You can either browse and look around, or shop, but not both in the allocated time.

Thanks for your review. Well written description of our afternoon tour. I note your wish of a longer visit at the floating market. It is very different how long time people prefer to spend there, so 20 minutes is a kind of compromise. If someone needs a bit longer, it is not a big deal, just talk to the guide next time. I beg your pardon, if you felt it was too rushy.
