- Robert18 contributionsBest way to travel from Airport to the Bangkok CBDAirport Link is the very best way to travel from the Airport to Bangkok. The Airport Link is also connected to the BTS and MRT. The cost is about .75 cent US, BTS and MRT is additional charge .. Best of all the Airport Link save you 1 hr travel time .. because the entire trip takes about 20 minutes.. Clean, safe and cheap ...Visited December 2022Written December 5, 2022
- Ramakrishna NBengaluru, India70 contributionsOn time and cost effectiveWe stayed very close to Pratunam and hence this was feasible. They have lifts to get your luggage. Staff is very friendly to answer your queries. Was a bit crowded, but is an excellent way to get to the airport traffic free and on time. It also costs very less compared to cabs. Thanks to the govt for this wonderful service.Visited October 2022Written December 11, 2022
- Irene GExeter, United Kingdom95 contributionsGetting too busy for touristsSince my previous visit pre COVID- I can report several new stations have been added making theses trains now very busy with local commuters. So if you are trying to transport suitcases to and from the airport I cannot recommend any more. There is no provision for luggage and packed in like sardines is no fun after an 11 hour flight. If you can travel long haul with just a small bag great- otherwise the ARL is really not fit for the purposes of airport to city travel. Taxis cost around 500 Baht, compared with the 45 baht ARL fare plus onward city travel (ie another 24 baht to Siam) - but is door to door with considerably more comfort.Visited December 2022Written January 1, 2023
- Holly GBradford, United Kingdom16 contributionsFast and efficientUse the rail link- it's so easy to use and it'll be alot faster than trying to get across the city in a taxi. The rail link connects straight to the bts sky train system. As with the bts and metro, signs in English as well as Thai, making it easy for travellers to navigate.Visited December 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten January 21, 2023
- aimmilly78Delray Beach, Florida5 contributionsA very helpful way to be a transporation method in BangkokIf you need a way to get to the city of Bangkok from the airport, you definitely need to consider using the Airport Link. Besides it charges very reasonably, it is the fastest way to get you to the main area of Bangkok. There is no alternative.Visited February 2023Written February 3, 2023
- Hotelman08Mountain View, California73 contributionsBest way to get into BangkokIt you are arriving into the airport around rush hour. I would suggest you take the train into the city. It is cheaper and more efficient than a taxi. I had never used the train before, but I found the train system easy to navigate and there is a rail employee at the airport to assist you with questions.Visited February 2023Written February 13, 2023
- Ron SLeduc, Canada16 contributionsConvenient and Reasonably PricedEasy access from the BTS Prya Thai station. No street traffic to deal with. It was 30 minutes from the BTS station to the Suvarnabhumi airport. I had been to Bankok 3 times and the traffic f5om the airport or the shop terminal I Laem Chabang was awful. This rail was so cost effective and brought me to within walking distancd with luggage in the 92⁰ heat to my hotel at the Century Park The only problem with leaving Bangkok with an 8 am flight, the rail link does not start until 6 am according to the hotel doorman , a d ad ice is that thexairport departure I'm igration is very very busy at this airport Earl, so you can not risk being late for a flight We took a taxi ant with tolls at 5:15 am it cost 275 Baht not the 400 to 538 quoted by the hotel or Grab websiteVisited February 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 23, 2023

If you need to get to or from the BKK main airport, the Airport Rail Link is a good option. From the Ploenchit BTS area, it will take you about 1 hour, door to door. So it is not fast, but it is a smooth and direct ride. You will take the BTS to Phaya Thai and then buy a token for the airport rail link -- just 45 baht, which is about $1.50! Can't beat the price. The ride is about 1/2 hour and you may end up standing, but people do exit so you may get lucky and have a seat free up.
If you live near the metro, you can connect via MRT Phetchaburi station.
A cost-effective choice for getting to BKK airport!

It is a great way to get to and from the main airport in Bangkok. The price is reasonable and there's multiple stops available, plus you can change to other lines. The biggest problem it has as a airport link is that it stops before the airplanes stop arriving. It stops at midnight and many flights arrive just before and after that time, plus after arrival you have to get your luggage and get through immigration. It would be a great system if it worked with the airport schedule.

For foreigners, it is cheap though I think for locals it is a bit too expensive - 30-80 bahts per journey. There is no connection amongst the different lines, the payments need to be made in cash, no bulk ticketing etc.
The metro cars are big, enough spaces for many people, it can take you quickly to the airport of the heart of the city.
The air-condition works on very low temperature, so I was cold sometimes..

This is a simple rail system going from the airport just north of downtown. The rail cars are better configured for luggage, but the train is also used by commuters. Be smart, if you have several large bags, book a taxi, you will seriously struggle lugging your bags from a road into station, up several platforms, and then onto cars. Be respectful, large bags take up tons of space, displacing commuters who rely on this system to get to work. ARL is ideal if you're picking somebody up or you travel light with just a backpack or roll-aboard. ARL is a very poor choice for travelers with multiple, large bags, and/or sports equipment.
Some interchange stations are severely overcrowded during rush hour. Be prepared to wait for up to three trains before you are able squeeze on a train.
ARL is ideal for some and a poor choice for others. If you have a long flight and want to stay fresh at least until you get to the airplane, book an air-conditioned taxi instead of schlepping your bags a KM or more through Bangkok heat and humidity.

From Suvarnabhumi Airport to Central Bangkok in approx 20/25 minuets for a little over GBP1.00.
Located on the bottom floor of Suvarnabhumi airport, the Airport Rail Link is convenient and very easy to use. The carriages are clean, air-conditioned and only busy during peak commute times. The link takes you into central Bangkok where you can interchange with the BTS and/or MRT.
Perhaps a little daunting if arriving in Bangkok for the first time - but honestly, it really is easy to use - the staff speak English and are very helpful and friendly and the signs are in English. Just make sure you know where you need to get off.

While it may take a bit longer to get the airport it’s much cheaper than a taxi. We travelled from the Nana BTS sky train station and took the rail link to the international airport. Round trip was about 50 minutes. Trains run every 10 to 15 minutes depending on the time of day. Open from 06:00 to midnight.

On arrival in Bangkok go down to level one to get the rail link from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phaya Thai (BTS) station via Makkasan Station (MRT Phetchaburi). Buy a single ticket costing 45 baht in exchange for a token. You scan the token on a machine to enter to board the train. On exiting your destination you drop the token in the hole at barrier. From Makkasan Station (MRT Phetchaburi) you can then get to any destination in downtown Bangkok.

Unless you have mountains of luggage, the airport rail link is by far the easiest way of traveling to Bangkok as from the various stations on the link, you can change to other lines although when changing to different rail networks you have to buy a new ticket.
The airport rail link trains run frequently and tickets or discs can be bought at machines so it's worth having plenty of coins although notes will be accepted. The trains run from the airport at Suvarnabhumi to Phaiya Thai and a one way journey costs 45 baht. The trains are also used by commuters so they can become very busy at certain times of the day but, in all probability, your journey will be relatively quiet as most passengers are concentrating on their mobile phones!
Trains are clean and are regularly security checked. Although tourists do make use of the rail link, if you have an excessive amount of luggage, you may need to risk using a taxi.

The airport rail link is by far the cheapest and fastest way to get from bkk to the city. It deposits you at the BTS so you have to be ready to deal with that or catch a taxi at that point to your final destination. It only costs 45 baht each way for the token that gets you access to the train which is 1 and a half dollars. Located in the bottom level of the airport just keep following escalators down as far as you can go and attendants can help you there. Highly recommend.

When arriving to Bangkok we decided to take the train vs taxi to our hotel. Not because of money but it looked like the fastest way to get to our hotel. We were very happy with our choice as it was very easy, clean, comfortable and fast. If your hotel is next to a bts station I highly recommend to take the airport train and then connect to the bts rail.

You buy tokens using cash from either a kiosk or vending machine. Get some money (Thai Bart) at the airport and get it changed to 100bart notes. Use this at the kiosk or vending machines at the station to purchase a token that you use to get through the turnstiles to get to the train. Keep the token to get through the turnstile to exit the station you arrive at.

Hi, Im looking at taking the ARL but have a few questions. My flight arrives at around 8am, will be travelling with 1 suitcase and a carry on bag, is it safe and convenient to take the ARL at that time of the morning? Looking at the ARL map, i would have to get off at Makasaan Station and take a taxi/grab from there to my hotel in Sukumvit. Are there taxis at the front of that station?
Or would it be more convenient to just take a taxi from the airport at that time of the morning?

Hi, I travelled on the rail link and then got a taxi - there are always lots of taxis around so it shouldn’t be a problem. I found the rail transfer to be quick and relaxing compared to just being in a taxi. The roads are very busy so I was pleased there was an alternative.

You are referring to the train that was running almost 10 years ago along side the airport link : the one that only stopped on few stations. They are not running, and from what I have researched, it will never be running.
Ciao.

Can I use a debit card to purchase the air train ticket when I arrive at BKK? How do I get a small amount of cash for a taxi when I arrive in Phaya Thai?
John K
Costa Mesa, CA1,394 contributions
Your best bet is to change a small amount of money at the airport. Exchange rate isn't quite as good as in town, but it's reasonable. ATMs are always a good option and offer good exchange rate, provided your bank will reimburse the added ATM fee (about $7 USD). Keep in mind that the train ticket from BKK to Phaya Thai is only $1.50 USD and taxi fares should be less than $10 USD.

Hoe do I get from the suvarnabhumi.airport to the BTS Skyrail?
Sitiawan10

Take the Airport Rail Link from the basement of Suvarnabhumi airport to Phayathai. This is the terminal station of the ARL and Phayathai is also a BTS station, so just change to the BTS to take into downtown Sukhumvit.
